Review Taste Of Tibet - Gangtok

Md Shafiur Rahman
Cozy family restaurant. Tried their beef thukpa and beef shyaphale. Both of these were our first time experience. Thukpa was good but Shyaphale was mind blowing. Service was good.
Saikat Ghara
One of the best restaurant for red meat in Gangtok. The chill pork and beef fry we tried was absolutely mouth watering. The crispiness and crunchiness of these food made it more delicious. Highly recommend if you visit Gangtok

Authentic thupka and momos. Not too spicy which gives a chance to explore the real taste of the food . Situated in the heart of Mg marg, service is quick, wash room is ok.

Located at M.G Road, this is an absolute treasure for people who wanna try local food of Sikkim as well as Tibetan cuisine. We tried Vegetarian Thenthuk, it was honestly delicious. Neither too spicy nor too mild, basically a Comfort Food. Staff were polite, helpful and nice.

Consider yourself fortunate if you manage to get a table here. The restaurant as it's name suggests, is famous for Tibetan cuisine. The location of the restaurant is really good. It's right on MG Marg. It's a must if you wanna try out the local food. Highly recommended.

We went to this restaurant on a weekend afternoon and fortunately got the table quickly. Table space is cramped but the service was super quick. Tried Hot & Sour Soup, Chicken Momos and Fried rice. Soup was bit different than what we used in Chennai. Otherwise all was good and quantity was also little high.

Good food. Chicken hot and sour is a must try. Can try Shyaphale here. Tibetan cuisines options are plenty to opt. Atmosphere is okay nothing special but mostly one have to depend on self service here.

Best Tibetan food hub in Gangtok. Highly recommended if you are feeling super hungry at MG Road. Delicious food with value for money. Shaphaley is a must try! You are lucky if you get a seat in the prime time.

Best place to have momos when you are in Gangtok. Located in M.G market. Tried Chicken fried momos and they were very awesome. The momos were hot and the taste was good. Would suggest everyone to visit this place .

Visited this place on my 1st day to Gangtok for dinner... We had Mixed Thukpa, Chilly Pork, Mixed Rice... Also wanted to try momos but on that day it was unavailable...

Anyways every dish was properly cooked and so yummy that I couldn't stop but enjoy every bite...
Also I tried pork 1st time so I really liked their chilly pork... Mixed thukpa was also new dish to me and I liked that so much...

I liked their food so much that on my staying at Gangtok, I had to visit this place twice... On the 2nd day I tried their beef momo along with my fav chilly pork, mixed rice and thukpa and to my surprise again I loved that momo too... Also that was my 1st time for trying beef😋
Momos was juicy and yummy... Still I am missing their momo and chilly pork...
In the frame -

1. Beef Momo

2. Mixed Thukpa

3. Chilly Pork

4. Mixed Thukpa

So my verdict must try place for authentic taste and yummy food.... Also price is very reasonable and won't make hole in your pocket...
Don't miss this place while in Gangtok..
I will definitely come to this place again... 🙂

Service was prompt. Staff was cooperative. Seats were available, didn't have to wait (Visited at around 8.30 PM on a Monday).

Standing tall at a place you can't miss, Taste of Tibet is everything you need when you are craving for that authentic Tibetan delight. My husband, being a meat fanatic, was quick to single out the beef Momo and chilly beef dry. The complimentary soup that came along was not much though and hence was left untouched. We then moved on to the pork Thukpa which was a right balance of soup and noodles.. The chicken Momo was not quite in the same league and those who've had and appreciated Denzongs Momo from Kolkata will know what I mean. Having said that, I would suggest that this place is a must try in Gangtok for the meat lovers without feeling that pinch in the pocket!

Very difficult to reach. 6 flights of stairs to climb 3 floors. As senior citizen we had tough time to reach. The food preparation after orders takes a lot of time.

Incredibly disappointing!
After looking at the reviews - we entered this famous restaurant. Looking at full occupancy we waited.
The food served was oily beyond normal.
Not recommended at all.Pricey for its quality

Treated like a second class person!

Noticed that a "local" person had received 10 pieces of momos per plate whereas we had received 6. Waiter treated us as if we were lying and "khai" eaten the 2 pieces.

This is not how people behave in modern India. Felt humiliated and treated like an outsider in our own country. The man sitting behind the counter will realize soon that based on how he treats tourists - tourists will not come because they are cheated.

The staff was very arrogant and unfriendly. The owner was not at all considerate. I waited there for 30mins for a table even after that they said they won't give.the owner doesn't care about customer hospitality

This place is a must visit when your in Gangtok and I'll come here again definitely too..

You shouldn't expect much for the ambience but the meal is affordable..
Pork chilly - this best I've had in my life and it's a must if you love pork, it's a grilled pork cut into pieces

Chicken momos - just loved the soft chicken pieces in it.
Sanjeev Takyar
The restaurant does not have more than 2 tibet dishes, that too not authentic, it is more of a Chinese restaurant, the chicken is very tough and chewy, the noodles are full of oil, momos are the only OK thing we found here, not worth going

After hearing a lot about this place I went there for my final Lunch. The place was crowded and somewhere in the corner I managed to seat. I ordered two things- the pork fried rice, which was eatable and the pork chilli dry, completely burnt and not at all eatable. Taste of Tibet really disappointed me and put a sour taste in my mouth.

Best place to try authentic tibet cuisine. Momos and thupka are a must here. The place doesnt offer a fine or a luxury dining but a must visit if you are looking for best tibetan food at most affordable rates

We didn't get any space when we first went there but the next time we made sure that we are before time as this place was quite famous for their food. We loved the atmosphere although the place is little cramped. We ordered wines, their local beer hit, chili mushroom, chili chicken, chowmein and loved everything there. We didn't get momos though and for the same reason I'll visit gangtok again
Ajay Raghunath
The place was okay at best. I ordered a Veg Thukpa and it was alright. Not that good honestly.
The service was good. The ambience is normal with a lot of people.

Food 3/5
Service 4/5
Ambience 2/5

Had heard alot another this place. But was very disappointed. Except fot the fried rice nothing else was good. The chicken soup had a weird smell to it. And the thukpa lacked any vegetables or flavour.

Pathetic food quality!! No local taste found in the food of a Sikkim restaurant.. Value for money 0. Not sure if it’s declared as an Organic State!

My first visit to Sikkim, my cousin took me to this place,; this place didn't disappoint me at all. We had tendeuk, beef fried rice, momo, chicken thali, pork chilli. Every dish was great👍. Best Tibetan food 👌👌👌Hats off😋

A wonderful menu, delicious food and very courteous staff..We had pork momos, pork thukpa and mushroom fried rice. Though we had received a wrong order, the staff was swift in replacing the order. The momos are the best I've had till date, the wrappers of the dumplings were thicker than I've had before and was good. The thukpa and rice were tasty as well..

For non veg lovers, this place is heaven. Beef Momos... OMG.. You will hardly find beef Momos in India, but when you do, like here, make sure you have it for sure.
Anither tibetan delicacy was the chicken shyaphale. Just wow.
Have this with Dansberg, the local brewed premium beer and enjoy a nice lunch.

This place is packed, so You might need to go at odd time or waot a little.

Full marks for food.

Service is a little slow because of the occupancy.

Must try when in Gangtok.

For other reviews for Gangtok Mg Road outlets, do review the profile.
Thanks.

Just on the MG Marg, a Chinese tibetan food joint plus bar remains always packed. A narraow stair led to the seating are on the first floor.
ordered Pork Momo, Chicken momo and Veg Thukpa.
Chicken momo was ok.
pork momo was very poor. the coating is so thick, undercooked and with minimal feeling inside.
Veg Thukpa was so so. Raw smell of wheat coming out of the noodles means dish was undercooked.

We visited this place in the afternoon and it was packed with people enjoying the food.

So we returned after sometime and looked for something vegetarian to eat.

This place does not serve many vegetarian options and it does not have veg momos.

So we settled on the veg chowmein dish which was very basic to taste

This is your best chance to eat the local food at a reasonable price, the restaurant is situated in the heart of M.G road which is a busy area and one of the tourist attractions of gangtok. (On the 2nd floor, no lift ) they have a seating capacity of close to 50 people.

We ordered chicken fried rice , tandoori chicken , chicken manchurian in gravy and a few soft drinks.

Damages to the pocket - Rs 685 (approx US $ 9.5 )

Overall experience - good food , decent service. I would rate this place 3 on 5.

A very timid and not so impressive looking restaurant which serves perhaps the best of Tibetian food in town. Perched on the 2nd floor, it's difficult to find a table, but once you have found one.. Just enjoy your meal. We had ordered for Thukpa and momos and it was too good. The Danzberg beer complimented it well.. Friendly staff, quick service, reasonably priced and good food.. What else can you ask for!

This place serves some really delicious tibetan foods. Also this was the only place where I could find the beef momos which were really good. This place should be given a visit if you are around.

Not so good food.
We order chicken fried rice but rice was to hard not so well cook.
And we order chili chicken it was disaster. Chicken peices was hard bad test. Total disgusting food. I did not like the food. I did not recommended this place

I did not expect an awesome ambience, all I cared about is the food and service. But that too turned out to be over hyped and total let down of my expectations. After placing an order and waiting eagerly 30 mins for food, they told me what I ordered was out of stock! The waiter then simply walked away from my table without asking if I'd like to have anything else. All of these happened when there were hardly any guests. I can't even imagine what happens here on a busy day.
I had to walk up to the cashier and place my order. Chicken Thukpa wasn't that bad. But visit here only if you can handle their tantrum.
Service: 0/5
Ambience: 0/5
Food: 3/5

Located in M.G marg,it is one of the busiest and cheapest eateries that provide local cuisine.

There is nothing great about the ambiance though the service is fast and prompt, they also provide cheap drinks and local beer.

We had the Tibetan items from there menu and also few which of Chinese ones, liked the quantity of the portion and also the quality of chicken, egg and veggies used.

Taste:4/5
Food:4/5
Ambiance:3/5
Service:4/5
Value for money:4/5

Located at the heart of Gangtok, this place serves you the best Tibetan food in Gangtok,we had dumplings, fried momos,Chop sueys, noodles and various soups during our few visits while in Gangtok. The quality of the meat.. especially beef and pork was really great and safe to try. The only shortcoming is the small area of the restaurant,Taste of Tibet would be our go to restaurant everytime we're in Gangtok.I would give 5/5 to Taste of Tibet.

Amazing food. Loved their Tibetan dishes. If you are there in Gangtok, this a must visit place for all foodies who are in search of authentic Tibetan. Have their thukpa, their sha phalleys, noodle. I loved the chili chicken.

Good Tibetan food in the middle of MG road which is like the centre of Gangtok, full of locals, friendly staff. Have to wait a bit till you find a table. Had chicken thenthuk which is pasta with chicken and soup. The chowmein chicken noodles were stir fried and dry (bit burnt). Chicken momos were awesome though..

Located just on MG Marg, Taste of Tibet should be on the 'must to go' list of all. The best beef momo to tickle your taste buds with flowing butter stream. Add on are the pork momo, traditional beef curry, chilly pork ( perfect mix of fat and meat) and the shyaphaley. I have been to this place thrice during my trip and it has never disappointed me. Flush down the momos with a bottle of beer to experience the divinity. Prices are way affordable and would go back every time I'm in Gangtok. :)

PS: No pictures because , too busy eating. ;)

So beint around MG road market in gangtok meant we had to try the local joints there. Saw decent reviews of this place, but didn't really like the momos /dimsums here. The soup was not good and the chicken momos were too chewy

Whilst our stay at MG Marg we hit this place twice. On our first day we encountered a little crowd because it was almost the closing time. We had ordered beef chowmein, chicken chowmein, dry fried beef and a hit beer. All the food was nice quality wise and taste wise. We liked the place so much that we hit the place again for lunch after that day. We had pork fried momo, beef chilly momo and chicken mushroom soup. Tasted awesome. Highly recommended if you are staying at MG Marg.

After speaking to many locals who recommended this place for authentic Sikkimese/Tibetan food at this place, we enthusiastically marched to the restaurant which was packed to the rafters. But the lady(very unfriendly!) at the reception counter refused to serve any vegetarian options even though they were mentioned in the menu. So we had no option but to retreat and look for other avenues.

We are on Gangtok tour and visited this for dinner on (2nd October 2018) at night time. We had ordered 2 soups for starters. Then in non veg we ordered chicken chopsy. They took around 1 hour to get this order. I think they had forgotten about this order and after our reminder they started making it.
Now the worst part comes. When we got this order, we started eating it like last dish on earth (As we got this after one hour). We suddenly notice that there is an insect in the dish. When we told this to manager they were behaving like it's normal scenario for them. And we return from the restaurant with empty stomach.

TASTE OF TIBET

Located in a prime position in M.G Marg Market, just at the bend of the market where the Naya Bazar starts, this place is one of the busiest and cheapest eateries to try local cuisine.

We visited this place after a whole day of sightseeing and walking about to stuff ourselves up and fuel us for a long session of adda on the benches of the picturesque market! This place lacks any subtlety or upscale touch regarding ambiance. Beloved to the locals and tourists alike, this place serves food really fast in a cramped up place and also provides cheap drinks!

In frame :

1. Pork Momos - The momos come in 2 mins after ordering with its quintessential taste. The broth served here has no salt in it and the customers are asked to customize it with salt, black pepper, soy and chilli sauce as per their preference. The momos came piping hot and with the fiery sauce, it tasted like heaven.

2. Dry Chilli Pork - This was a bit tough since any Dry Chilli dish here is wok tossed to smithereens! So, it was a bit disappointing!

3. Mixed Meat Rice - This was quite a generic putting together of a fried rice with chicken, pork and egg. The taste was impeccable.

Things that should also be tried here are Phaleys and Thukpas!

In short, if you're here to enjoy the culture while having a wholesome meal in cheap price and yet you don't want to walk dingy stairways up or down to shady eateries, this is THE place!
Another famous food joint of Gangtok. We ordered:

Pork Shyaphale: They can be imagined as jumbo sized momos. The stuffing was really very tasty. Also they served it with a light soup(which had no salt).

Chilly Momo: They were kind of pan fried dumplings. It was not bad.

Mixed Gyathuk: This was really tasty. It was loaded with meat and eggs. The soup was amazing. One of the best thupas I ever tasted. The smell of beef might effect one.

Hit Beer: A really strong beer.

Overall a nice experience. This place serves lots of authentic dishes.
