Review Cafe Hendrix - Guwahati

Lunch on a working day. We were the only customers. Out of the 15 varieties of beer on the menu, only three were available. Fish & chips were brilliant. Chowmein was tasty though a bit oily. This would be a happening place in the evening with live music. Hendrix-ness of the place is evident though a variety of music was played. There is a 20% markup when gigs are playing and this has been advertised everywhere. Good place except that the entry is rather narrow and low roof may make some people claustrophobic. Hope they have a functional fire escape from both the floors.

Very good ambience.. if you have some good taste of English song you have to visit the place.. Food is also good. The American corn fry is outstanding... Beer variety is limited. No pint available.. but is in the menu. Price is reasonable. But it charges extra for live performance. Entry is free. Overall good time. Good place. good for hangout with friends and family.

Great live music, not so great sitting arrangment which needs to be improved as the stage view is hindered by other guests. Even the waiters were very frequently coming between the guests and the stage view.

Guwahati was longing for such a place from very long time, where musicians can showcase their talent in front such crowd who give proper value to those musicians and crowd can enjoy the music along with food & booze. Food is good & not very overpriced.

Aftee lot of recommendations I went there as I haven't had been here before. It was quite an amazing place. The ambience was really nice. If you want to go with friends or girl/boy friend, it's the good place to hangout. 10 on 10 for me.

Awesome place to hangout with friends and loved ones. The best time to visit is Friday, Saturday and Sunday when you will find a live music performance. The vibe is awesome and the staff are well behaved.

Classy place to hangout. I probably visited two times. Ambiance, light, music and drinks were awesome. Best part was live music performance.

The light was mellow, the music good, the drinks smooth, the food really good. All complemented each other. The arrangers were gentle and helpful. A nice place. The Tequila Sunrise was just wow! Enjoyed it with wonderful thoughts on my mind. Won't forget the music, the madness, the thrill.

Always love this place. Decent ambiance. Food they serve are really yum. Specially the smoke pork plate is too delicious. Every time I been to the place make sure to order this one with less spices (next time will take photograph of the dish).

One the of most chilled out pubs in Dispur. They have a good rock n roll theme and also have Band performances every weekend. Decent food and Punjabi food available here was surprisingly good.

Good for people who like watching bands and have drinks together. 🍸 Food was great and drinks were also nice.

Even though Zomato tells me to be friendly and says this is not a place of hate, I just say cafe Hendrix is absolutely someplace I’d never visit again just because the staff doesn’t understand an iota of customer service. Calling the customer back because there is a 40 rupee charge on packing that hasn’t been charged on the bill while the total bill amount is almost 7000/- is absolutely bizzare. I cannot but sympathise with the staff as I’m sure all they are told is to take orders. Or maybe the crowd here is so unmanageable that guests are ordered to finish their drinks by 12. That means not last orders but actually finish their drinks.<br/>I would really appreciate the managers to intervene and make sure that visitors are not treated in this manner.

The ambience is very nice...The only issue is that it is a little cramped for space & the washroom(for Gents) is an issue as well!But people may wonder why i am still rating it as a 5 star!<br/>The reason is simple: FOOD!I have tried the fish fingers,Dry chilly chicken, Smoked Pork(The star of the show) & Its Non veg Hakka Noodles(both chicken and pork).Each of these tasted really well.The waiters are very professional and know their job well.And if you are a foodie (which i bet you are as you are going through the reviews to pick a food joint!) this is a must try.The price is little on the higher side.But they dont compromise on the quality of food.

Hands down One of the best cafes' i have visited anywhere in India, in terms of food, service, ambience, music et all.. Had a great experince with friends. And since i am not from guwahati, but i would love to visit this place again whenever i am in the city. Music was subtle and good to the ears. The cherry-cheese-pineapple was the star of the dishes we ordered, the pork with bamboo shoot was amazing as well. Keep it up guys, cheers!

It's a nice place to hangout. Late night concerts are really nice. I was lucky to attend one of the shows. Food served was awesome. People are nice

I don’t know why I feel the prices are bit high in comparison to the quality and quantity. It’s not very spacious, neither that compact. I would just say ok to hang around with friends. One can enjoy the live music and the place is quite loud. Overall its a good place

Overall it's good but the items are too costly. One Corona which cost RS 200 in a wine shop there it cost Rs400 or 420 which is double the price. That's not good.

Prices too high for hard drink and food was also not so good at all after drums of heaven we friends left out for some other places..no live music

Having read rave reviews, visited the cafe during my recent visit to Guwahati. I am surely going here next time. Good food, good music, nice ambience, courteous staff. Loved the complementary sprout salad. We ordered fish fingers, which turned out to be yum. The place is worth every penny.<br/>However, we had a bit difficulty finding the place, even while standing bang opposite Pantaloons. They can have a larger sign-board on the main street.

I don’t want to give it 1 star but if I don’t do that I can’t write a review for this Worst bar the taste of the food is terrible coming here is just waste of money and the staff is also very rude.

Three floors and each has ita own ambience. Although the most preferred is the top floor. Apart from good food the place has good music, projector tv show and all you want to have for a good meal. Lunch is preferred for meals, while night is crowded

A nice place if you like rock music and a live band which plays every Friday to Sunday.<br/>It is however very loud and not a place to catch up with long lost friends over conversation. Place is dimly lit and service is average.<br/>Price wise it's similar to most pubs.

I have been there twice and it was recommended by a colleague and a friend as well. I was not dissapointed being there. Enjoyed live music with beer. Only issue I have was that most of the beers given in the menu are not available and the price is in higher side. #cafehendrix

Cafe Hendrix...It's the place if you wanna laze and chillout in the late evenings Grab a Beer or Have a whisky on the rocks!!! The waiters are friendly and the ambience is rocking...BUT A 3 STAR RATING COS THEIR BEERS ARE OVERPRICED WITH NOT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT folks...So be prepared to shell out extra cash...They charge nearly double of a BEER BOTTLE which is unacceptable!!! This place is something one should be when they visit guwahati but hold on.. let me share an experience here!!<br/><br/>For those who like to listen live music, yes that's a good place.<br/><br/>I strongly doubt the alcohol quality which is served here.<br/>We were in a group and we each and every one felt like the alcohol is fake.<br/><br/>At last when the staff got the bill, OMG! The bill was full of wrong drinks price included. They made a bill of all the expensive drinks out there, for example, for 2 of b.pride they wrote the bill of 2 of something else, for 2 of s.of they wrote 2 of abst. WTF!! It was like they thought we are in group and they can easily push a fake bill. We had to pay what ever was written I n the bill instead of getting fake drinks.<br/><br/>Each penny spent there was waste.<br/><br/>#cafehendrix authority, please take a look what is served to the customer and also check if the customer gets a proper bill of what they order.

One of the oldest cafes in town, this is where I met Lou Majaw! This place is great for people who love rock music (now you know why the cafe's name is such! Bands perform live music too). Food is nice. Their smoked pork with bamboo shoot is yum. Want to enjoy an evening with great friends and music- visit this place. Maybe they should think a little about the decor- it's really congested and dark. Will visit this place when I have beer on my mind with loud music!

The place is best suited for pure hard rock lovers and those who like loud music and so is not meant for those who would like to chat or just enjoy with some soft music. The entire pub needs a remodeling as the setup is not very convenient for patrons with its 3 levels separated by staircases. <br/><br/>1. In the first level only is the washroom for men where one can enter at a time  and in the third level only is the washroom for women. So if a guy sits at the third level he has to go down 2 levels and a lady on the first level has to go up two levels. <br/><br/>2. In the third level only there is a smoking room for ladies and couples but the exclusively guys one does not have a door. Smoking is allowed even in the tables too and so can be an irritation for non-smokers. Some of the sitting locations are in extreme corners and with service staff not attending, the patrons have to come out constantly to place orders.<br/><br/>3. The live music floor is on the third level and so the other levels has to miss the live shows if the third level is full. Sound quality needs to be improved a lot more. As the place is quite small, the extremely loud sound both during live show and at other times adds to the discomfort. One almost has to scream repeatedly while talking to service staff. With only one TV tucked at a corner and loud music, the live sports screening is hardly enjoyable.<br/><br/>4. The service time is good as long as most tables are empty but once they start filling up, it deteriorates like anything and in general food orders are extremely slow. Some waiters even forget food orders as they move around haphazardly across tables and they have to be constantly be reminded about it. We have to wait for more than a hour for a single starter item with a reminder of about 5 times as the first one who took the order forgot about it and after half an hour another one reordered it. <br/><br/>5. The price of both drinks and food is on the higher side and does not justify with the quality and taste of the items and with a high additional charge for live music, it only rubs salt to the wound. During peak times the quality of the same food item deteriorates further.<br/><br/>6. The lighting is poor and quite dim and as such the aesthetics of the place is hardly visible.

What I like is the live music and the great crowd.. Food is good.. Overall one of the best bars in Guwahati.. Keep rocking.... You gotta enjoy........................

One of the oldest cafes in town. The best place to spend weekends on. I visited on a Sunday with my friends. The gig takes place on the top floor and they have a great lineup. The staff and everyone are friendly. Food is good. We ordered a dragon mushroom and a pork dry fry. For beverages we ordered Simba beers, one if 6 was 9 and an Italian smooch. It tasted decent.

Dont know about others but for me its the worst place ever i visited in my life. First of all i went there with my elder sis and she is of 29+ and i am of 20+ and when we mention about the age in their register then one waiter come to us and tell us to leave the table and go out as i m not of 21+....and i think this attitude should not b with any waiters of any restro or cafe...<br/>As because if we both were in minor group then dat thng ll b different but my sis is alrdy of 29+ and we ddnt went there to hav drinks we just went there to have a pleasant food........<br/>And if they have such rules and regulation then i think they should mention it in the entrance door...while checking out peoples through metallic checker.....<br/>And i have one question to them,If any family goes their with their kids then what they ll do????Parents ll keep their kids outside of d cafe and they ll go inside to enjoy food and drinks without their kids or what!!!!!!!<br/>

This place is one of my favourite hangout...the food is tasty and the ambience is quite nice!! Beers go well in this place, but most of the time few brand of beers may not be available

The place was good but too loudy. it's not a place to hang out for non music lovers as you cannot hear each other for the loud music. But cosy area.

I wasn't quite sure.. if I'll like this place or not.. but to my surprise.. it was quite good.. one of the oldest places here.. food is good.. ambience is good.. service is a bit slow.. plus another thing that I noticed was that there was a concept of certain customers getting to smoke in the same place that they are sitting.. while the other customers had to go all the way till the smoking area to grab a smoke.. it was a bit confusing to me! Why the difference?? 🙄

I must be the only person saying this...but this place surely needs to review the people running the place on a day to day basis that being the waiters and the management...the former specially as they have a very bad attitude..the food okayish nothing great and the prices we pay for that is way too high...<br/>The place as a whole isn't bad but there is a thing called customer satisfaction and that is their Achilles heel...

Be careful with this joint. First of all, they are overrated. They have a huge drinks menu. Yet, most of the drinks listed there are not available. They just carry one brand of beer, that's all. Why have a drinks menu then? To fool people? Secondly, their food is below average.<br/><br/>Thirdly, they will rip you off without your knowledge. They will not tell you that you will be charged for watching the live gig. Then, they will charge you 20% of your drinks' price and 20% of your snacks' price for watching the crappy live music they host. 40%. Let that sink in. This is called deceptive business practice--charging customers for something without their knowledge. <br/><br/>Most people are too tipsy/drunk to pay attention to the hidden charges. Furthermore, it is too dark to be able to read the itemised items on the bills. I wonder how many people do not even realise that they are being ripped off. The live show is hosted on the second floor. They should have a notice in that area saying that you will be charged 40% of your bill for watching the live show. Alternatively, they should inform their patrons about this charge while they are headed to the second floor. However, they don't. Then bang! They hit you with that 40% additional charge. And by the time you realise it, 'tis too late.<br/><br/>Finally, on their contact us page, they list a few email addresses to correspond with them. I wrote them an email at 'info[at]cafehendrix.com' informing them of my displeasure at the hidden charges they levy on their clients. The email bounced with an 'address not found' error. This is how the business is being run. Provide email addresses to your clients that do not exist and pad their bills with hidden charges. Great! Just great!<br/><br/>I felt cheated after visiting that place. Never again.

So I visited this place once in 2016 and then on Valentine's this year. The same staff keeps running up and down constantly so service obviously isn't great. I felt that two years back, it had better ambience and even the food was better then. We ordered some fish and chips as starter and for the entrée, we ordered some garlic naan, chicken Tikka masala and mughlai biryani. The biryani didn't taste much like a biryani. It was more like a sort of fancy pilaf. We loved the fish and chips but it was overpriced! Also, Zomato should refresh the menu pictures with the revised ones because the price of the Fish and Chips alone is 110 rupees more on the revised menu!

Please update the new menu on zomato, remove the old one..........................................................................................................

Nice place and quick service from the staff... The place is quite happening with large crowd at most of the time... Good option to enjoy live rock music & to drink and dine...

I'm been a regular visitor of this place. So, i have how the prices have changed in recent years. The Food they serve is Fine. Beer is quite expensive and they also donot have much option available. Staff is good which adds a plus point. And they too have weekly performances. This is one of very first Pubs of Guwahati (we say that) and once it was very popular for youngsters. The location also attracts many people. The only reason im giving 3.5 is because of the prices. But anyway its very Good.

ITS TOO NOISY.....can even hear what the other person sitting next to me is saying....😂. Even if I tell the waiter to lower the volume...he won't do it. It's not that I don't listen to hard rock vintage songs...but you can't listen to those songs all the time ....sometimes while having drinks soft and easy going songs are also preferred... Otherwise everything else is fine in this place....food is awesome.

It's a good little 3 storied pub/restaurant just opposite to Pantaloons. Loud music and blue neon lighting are the first things you'd notice upon entering. Drinks can be a bit pricey but not by much. The pub also hosts live gigs from local bands and the performance is on the 3rd floor and on days during live gigs theres a surcharge on the menu and you'll have to pay it regardless of whether or not you sit on the ground or the first floor and can't see the live performance. Which is kinda weird.

It's a nice spacious place to hang out and take some time off over a drink. Although the cocktails they serve back there are a little too sweet for my taste. And they have also increased the rates. The food isn't anything extraordinarily delectable but it's not all bad. We ordered dry chicken schezwan and chilli garlic Noodles. They are generous so far as servings are concerned and the service was quick. The dark ambience with subtle lightings was something I personally found a delight. On the comparison scale, it's a cheaper option than most "hip places" and that's never a bad thing. Cheers!

The place is gud for couples n young grps. . .the place has a two sections,: one where no alcohol is served, n another one with the bar n live music bands playing...the interior is dark n has jus dim lights, so it gvs some romantic vibes. The place has separate smoking zone.<br/>Coming to the food, i orderd fish finger, schzwn fried rice, n chickn manchurian.<br/><br/>The fish fingers were a delight. ...however, the fried rice n the chkn manchurian was below average, ... Too spicy.... The fried rice was made in indian style adding indian spices. .so its a total turnoff...<br/><br/>Finger foods r gud but main course is not upto the mark. .the price is high compared to the quality of the food.<br/>The staff was gud n behaved well.

They say old is gold and this saying goes perfectly with this place. Being one of the oldest joint in Guwahati it still has the finest food, staff, music and ambience. My personal favourite is this oriental section in the menu. And their Chilli Chicken dry and Chilli fish dry are to die for. Must try!!!

Affordable menu...Had the chicken schezwan as the starter with some beer...for the price we paid, it was a good dish..well presented dish...but my issue is with the beer, i dont understand, if you dont have the beers, why do you have to list down so many of them in the menu.. didn't have any choice other than Kingfisher...and second issue is the extra loud music in the bar (you literally can't hear what the other person sitting next to you is saying)...otherwise, it's a good place to hangout with friends.

It's a very loud place.It has continued to be everyone's favourite. The cafe is set up with some groovy interiors and the photos of Jimi Hendrix is another add on to their interiors.Following the guitarist theme ,they prefer designing the ambience that way.It's d best place to go and have a drink with a big group and also enjoy some music.It also has a restaurant downstairs where they don't serve liquor or allow u to light a cigar making one part of d population enjoy the charisma of the cafe .

Pre Christmas night... they made it so boring.. worst experience ever. Played only christmas songs even after somany requests play smthing diffrent ...even asked us to leave the place..

Service "WORST"<br/>Ambiance - okay<br/>The staff members treated us horribly,last year I visited this place with my friends,as because one of us was underage,we weren't even allowed to sit on the top floor. We went there not to drink any kind of harddrinks though.We were shifted to the ground floor,their behaviour was the worst part actually.<br/><br/>So,we tried the 'Italian smooch' mocktail ,a cough syrup would taste better than it.<br/><br/>Wish zomato had an option of reviewing in 'negative'.<br/><br/>

Dark ambience....good for drinks(alcohol) prices are a bit on higher side....Food was ok nothing special.<br/>They lso have live band performing may be in the weekends only.

Ambience is quite chilled out, food is okay (I had Chicken Pakora). Music is really good. The entrance is bit narrow, also the toilet wasn't clean.

Service is shit as always. I don't understand why the working staff carries too much attitude, I mean when you're just a staff why act so embarrassed on visitors.<br/>Guwahati is never going to develop service wise if it goes on like this.

I am giving a 2 just because of its cool interiors with the disco and for the spacious sitting arrangement. May be the live performance are enjoyable. Other than that nothing is good here. Specially the staffs they carry a ego and a rude attitude while talking. And if u are not good with ur customers than whats left out ? Everything ends at that moment itself.<br/>Lastly food is over priced and the quantity they provide is very less. May be the drinks are good. Didnt try that.

It's my first visit today in cafe Hendrix.. The ambience was OK for me. Wat i love was the music and specially the live music was the best... Food was good.. But I was unsatisfied with the drinks.. They provide us only 2 bottle of beers after that they said that the beer was over.. No tuborg,no kingfisher,no Budweiser they had only pint beer that was called mohua or something.. So we had no other option but we had to ordered whiskey.. The small pack was 120rs. <br/>After we were done in the bill they had included so much gst n live show bill..after the payment went we went down there went plenty of beers in the fridge in the 1st floors.. When we asked about why they didn't provide us the beers they said that as it was Saturday so they didn't much provide beer on the second floor where the live show was going on... <br/>May b this is the policy to earn more money by selling whiskey as whisky is much costlier than beer.... So disappointed with cafe Hendrix.. 1st n last visit it was

Must go for western music lovers which have the most loved fusion of alcohol and music. Better go on weekends as the good local and indian bands are invited over there to perform.

All together nice place. Good ambiance, good crowd, good food & good service. But there is huge difference between the actual menu & the menu available in Zomato. The actual rates are almost double than the rates are maintained in Zomato's menu.

This place is the best place in town! With all those new cafes and bars, I find solace in this old classic place. The live music performance always give a good vibe here! Its just that lack of information of the concerts makes it a little uneasy. The staff here is quite helpful. 😃

Awesum place... Delicious food.... Great service... The interior is an eye catcher for sure... With the seating arrangement at three different levels...n the night we went for dinner luckily happened to be a live band show nyt.. Enjoyed a lot.. The audio and the instruments rock!! Jus that I felt the temperature wasn't maintained ..was feeling really cod with the ac 😆 otherwise it's a perfect place.. A popular place among youths... I personally love this place... A bit cozy bt a great place to hang out with friends n special ones.. They have variety in cuisines.. I wonder, why they charge 3 bottle beer for Rs 900. Unbelievable tax and extra charges. Over all place is good.<br/><br/>Disappointed with the vat in liquor.

My fav place once upon a time food is good and yes quality and quantity is good and interiors arw good to staffs are polite a nice place for the weekends

It's been there for a long time now...food is good, good to spend some time with few friends over a beer!<br/><br/>Food- most of the food items are good. Serves pork dishes. Do try smoked pork fry with dry shredded bamboo shoots. Chicken n mutton items r good too. Price is on the high average side.<br/>Bar menu is good...but they almost always run short of good beers. Price is on little higher side.<br/><br/> Ambience - it's bit dark inside. It becomes stuffy when it's crowded.. n when people r smoking... decorations is average.<br/><br/>Service - average.<br/><br/>N.B.- they play some live bands on weekends.. they charge extra on drinks those days...gets little noisy n crowded too. May enjoy it with friends. But better to avoid if u want to eat nicely n relax over a drink.

Occasionally good musicians perform at the venue. A great place for meeting friends for a drink. The food thought is good but nothing to write songs about. I suggest grabbing drinks there and having dinner/lunch elsewhere.

Nice and impressive place. Great ambience and awesome soundtracks. If you are up for booze then make sure you carry your ID. Food is good but nothing worth mentioning though.

I liked the mocktails and the chinese food here. Grilled chicken was also one of the tasty ones. But more than the food, i enjoyed the ambience. The cozy place with the dark light was definitely a turn on. Visit the place, for just the ambience if not food...!!

This place has lost it's charm. Once a very hyped go to place and now it's almost like my last resort.<br/>The service time is a disappointment. You have to keep reminding them about your order. But it gets better if you have friendly staff who can save you from becoming "HANGRY", but that too is not the scenario. But good music becomes the savior.<br/>The food though still tastes good as it used to do.<br/>So if you're looking to grab a beer along with some good food then this place is still good to go.<br/>Ambience needs to improve big time if ever I see it regaining it's old charm.<br/><br/>**And the menu here shows the old prices, so with a calculated budget after reviewing the menu here, you might end up burning a hole in your pocket.<br/><br/>P.S. If you are a non-smoker planning to go out with a group of smoker friends then probably you'd end up feeling uncomfortable because they don't a separate smoking zone.

Great collection of drinks. Awesome choice of music by Jimmy Hendrix. But sometime it becomes little crowded. I would suggest for a better location. Than the current one.

the menu given in zomato actually is not true.breezer cost nearly around 200.no smoking zone actually creates havoc for the non smokers.interiors are good.staff was all busy doing own stuff.not a good visit.they said only kingfisher beer was available.no breezers were available though.disappointed.!!

Amazing place to hangout. Nice and dark ambiance. Live band. Three levels of seating. Huge menu selection. But little expensive. Friendly staff. Nice place for evening drink and snacks.......

This place used to be a hit. Great gigs and affordable drinks. I wish they increased the space. But nonetheless it's a good place to chill and enjoy good music.

First comes the food. Real nice food. Do try the Lemon Chicken. It's outstanding. Then the ambiance. Nice rock music. But the location of the entrance is slightly shady. Service is play. Nothing great in the area. But a good joint, just for the food and the music.

The food and drinks were pretty good but service was very poor. Ambience is also pretty good.<br/>The rating is for the poor service.we have to keep shouting literally to call the waiter. <br/>Smoking zone should be separated from the main area as not everybody smokes or would love to be a passive smoker.<br/>

The place near to Shillong restaurant is good for alcohol lovers and some foodies as well. Although they will be asking for your id as age proof before presenting any alcoholic beverages.<br/>Since i don't drink let me.give the food details here.<br/>Had the chilly chicken, fish fingers, chicken dry.<br/>The taste was good. You can give a try out here. Tje menu has some wide offerings as well.<br/>The Ambiance is lively and also one can have a good time with friends over here. Plus at times live screenings of some matches were also done.<br/> The 2 and 4 wheelers will be a bir difficult to park in outside.

I came here yesterday to watch the India vs Pak cricket match with my friends. We drank few beers while one of my friends ordered a cold coffee too. We also ordered a portion masala peanut, potato fingers and smoked pork with bamboo shoot. Cold coffee was average but overall I was really happy with the food and the service was decent too. The items in the menu are well priced and you get great value for money here. The ambience is quieter than a usual bar/restaurant which is great! If I were to watch a game with my friends over few beers and decent food, this would be my preferred place.

I'm warning you of a billing scam.<br/>The restaurant charges you Gig Charges at 20% of the bill. Cheapest thing on the menu is Masala omelette ₹120. Since Bands playing here only play retro covers , advice do not drink. You end up paying only ₹25(20% of masala omelette) Also<br/>As mentioned by me, #LiveGig charges are more than Government Charges. Also in better restaurants, Service Charge is 10% of Bill(the normal tip etiquette) here it is 5% only<br/><br/>So the restaurant (restobar) pays 5% to waiters & 20% to Bands. That too who play 60s cover retro songs. I feel this is unethical. I wonder how many people know that their bill included live Gig Charges at 20% of the bill. Sorry I strongly feel when an establishment cheats you. This is a scam.<br/>To zomato, I'm screenshotting this review, just in case you don't publish it.

The place is a hub of good food and beverage. The live concerts are icing on the cake for this place. The ambience is soothing and peaceful. The food is good especially the tandoori chicken and chicken items.
