Review Lakhimi Cabin - Guwahati

Bhaskar J Chintey
It is a very old, very popular tea and sweet shop in the prime location of Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati. Near to the Baptist Church of Panbazar. You have to take a stand in one of the standing area (FYI there are no seats, stools, plastic chairs etc.), one of their servers would come and take your orders from existing menu. Within a minute you are served accordingly. Go for the safe options of Samosa/Pyaaz Kachori and Chai. It will be served fast. You can try the Rasmalai or the Kalakand sweet. They make it fresh everyday.

Established back in 1942, Laxmi Cabin has been a popular restaurant since its infancy. It is located in Fancy Bazaar. Had the samosa and its tea. They tasted average and regular like any other shop. Except the prices were a bit on the moderate to high range, samosa for Rs 17 and tea for Rs 10. But keeping in mind its history, the prices make total sense. ๐Ÿ‘

Crowded on rush hour, you have to stand and quick bite...no seating. But it do not matter as the food quality is super! We tried Tea, Shingara and A pink moose for my kid....I can till feel the amusing taste!

Whenever I go to fancy bazar, this is the place for my chai. They have variety of good quality sweets. I often take tea and rasmalai or tea and samosa. There is no place to sit, only standing tables are available. Self service only.
Kankana Deka
One of the oldest sweet shop of assam. Around 80+ years old sweet shop. Famous for its samosas, kachoris with a cup o delicious tea. Also famous for its soft & juicy rasmalai. Sweets made of dairy are fresh , soft and very tasty. You can get fresh chena items. Also offers fresh paneer. The location is on spot. Good place for a cup of tea with friends & family

One can finid hoards of people into this place often sipping tea coffee.. This time I find in the side centre for milkshakes too.. Dint try but I guess in summer its a good option to pick too..
Udayangshu Bhagabati (Ricky)
One of the oldest shops here in Fancy Bazar area. Good to see that the shop is still running after so many decades. The food quality is top notch and its clear by seeing the amount of regular customers it attracts. Its almost all the time crowded. Do eat the samosas as it is very tasty.

The most famous point of fancy bazar, from the days of our parents. Laxmi cabin hits different. Amazing saah and samosa.

I will not be surprised if this is the oldest sweets shop in the Fancy Bazar area or in Guwahati in general. It certainly is one of the oldest. I just love their samosas(singara) and chatney. Their sweets in general are fantastic and there is no compromise in quality. The place has an old quintessential charm about it. Must visit place according to me.

I am fond of their samosa since my school days. There sweets are also very good. The place has not changed since 1980's, my school days. Even the taste of Samosa and sweets have not changed. They are still maintaining the unique taste .
Samsuz Zaman
Best place for tea and sweets. But it remains too crowded most of the time
Bitopan Sarma

The atmosphere here is always buzzing...a visit to fancy bazaar is incomplete without having the samosa and chai from here...
The Robust Foodie
Coming to chai and sweets, lakhi cabin is always the best in fancy bazaar. The samosa i tried today was so delicious that i almost fell in love with it. It was just perfect . However, the crowed was a bit overrated and the area needs to b bit clean . Overall i give a 3 star

One of the oldest place for sweets and snacks in the city. Fantastic, delicious, hygienic food. Prompt service. Prices are reasonable.
Recommended for grabbing a quick bites.

Samosa in particular is one of the best there.
Gunja Banik
This is a legendary place. ..specially for samosas. ..they have quite a spread of sweets...do try their Chana pulao if you are around. ..prices are quite decent.
Ipsita Das
Used to visit there often even though it never looked very hygienic. But the last time when I had food from there, I ended up with food poisoning. I would never recommend people to have anything from there.

Irrespective of the season, this place is always crowded. One of the oldest shop in Fancy Bazar for samosas , sweets , this place serves variety of sweets and alu chop with chutney. LAKHIMI CABIN has always been great and in best location for office collegues or shoppings , both pocket friendly and favourable. My personal favourite is Gaza and samosa with chutney. They have tea options as well .. Theyld still improve on their ambience though.
Must visit for all!

It's another iconic sweet shop of Guwahati... people born and brought up in Guwahati will always relate this place with hot samosas and aloo chop with tangy chutney.
There's no chairs in this place....it's always a big rush out here...so basically you just eat, pay and leave. No air-conditioning....it's a uncomfortable place if you happen to visit this place after shopping and you have lots of bags and feeling hot and tired.
But, this place still makes some good old fashioned sweets like rasmalai, patisepta etc...samosas and alu chops are always a big hit out here...
Overall, it's a place you can visit if you are in mood for a quick tea and snacks.
Puravee Bordoloi
Something that never get old. The place I preferred most whenever in fancy bazar area for a cup of tea and samosa of course. Also Love their patisepta pita๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ it's just perfect. Slight change in taste and not as it used to be. but loyalties continues to flock the place as before.
Chandramita
one of the oldest Resturant, the tea that they serve is just so perfect. If ur a tea lover this is a must have place. Their samosa and the chatni with it๐Ÿ‘Œ is one of the best of the town.
Being a cofffelover i love their coffee its great.
Every item they sell is of great quality.
Arishma Medhi
I have been a regular customer at this place . I been fan of their tea, sweets, and tel pitha . The kheer patisepta from this place is really tasty. When you are here must try thwir famous samosa from all time.
Anjuman Mech
When they say old is gold, this place definitely comes in that list. This place had been here for a long time ans still running. Nothing fancy but humbly charming. The chai and samosa are the shoppers main fav treat here after a busy round of shopping and then, if your heart wishes, can go for some other delicacies too.
The "No Seating" theory may seem peculiar but it's not quite bothering actually because that way a single table can be occupied by multiple people and believe it or not, after a busy shopping hustle, the last thing you wanna do is sit because once you godown, you're never getting up, courtesy :Tired and Famished and Tired.. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
The place is busy as a bee so don't ever feel that they are not paying any attention, one waiter has to remember about 10 to 15 orders at once, no joke.
And it's not all about the food or ambience, but mostly the nostalgic tape that hits the mind of all the locals and every person who has a long time connection with it.

There can never be any rating lesser than 5. Its a must visit if you ever come to Guwahati. Samosas over there are the best in town!! Happy munching

We're slowing moving towards a time when the so called SELF SERVICE era is taking over the good old days, when you step into a small roadside restaurant and a person would come up to you to take your order and yes take it without the help of any pen or paper by just asking KI KHABO DADA. These places are either going extinct or are on a downward spiral due to a variety of reasons, not this one though. I remember when I was in Shankar Academy this was my regular spot to catch my morning fill of tea and samosah (or rather saah aru singora)..
Lakhimi cabin's been around since 1945 and the consistency in taste is a testimont to it's longevity...hope this goes on for many more years to come...
GAURAV MITNA
This place was opened by person in or around 1945,this place have seen Guwahati transforming from a jungle to a major business hub in North East India,
This place is known for of their SAMOSAS,and I like their coffee too, their hospitality is great,as soon as you pick a table, a server will come to you and place a glass and ask 'KI KHHAABO DA' which is more than enough in this 'self service' era for serving a single samosa....
Khalid Mohammed
One of the last few places left in guwahati for having a vinatge singara and a cup of nice chaaaa...slruuppppp..and yess the sweets are to die for...
Gunjan Sharma
A landmark and icon in the Fancy Bazar area. The quintessential rest stop after a tiring shopping spree - well before American fast food and cafรฉs started in Guwahati.

My personal favourite is the samosa and the accompanying sweet-sour chutney. Probably it is the chutney that made the samosa so yummy. However, the samosa size and quality have taken a hit of late.

Service is fast, hygiene average for such a joint. High value for money.

This place has been attracting customers from a time when their was no competition. People, after a tiring day shopping at fancy bazaar just love to have a quick bite here. It still remains crowded at all times.
Anupam Sarma

Lakhimi Cabin located at the heart of guwahati , Fancy Bazar and being the oldest sweet shop in an around the city is famous all over Assam . Maintaining its heritage , it looks as the same I saw years before being a child.. After shopping in Fancy bazar one surely decides for a cup of tea with its amazingly tasty , full flavoured Samosas(Sigora) ... Tempting Ras Malai and it's mouth watering Rosogolla ...
Lakhimi Cabin has many memories and I know many people like me have the same...
One should surely try this superb place at low prices ...
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Its a heritage of Old Guwahati with lots and lots of memories. Stand and eat is the mantra . Samosas are a must have .Is easily located next to khubchand and sons. ย Only snacks are sold. ย Pati sapate can be tried out. Overall need drastic improvement although it has become much cleaner this decade. But it does does not have any signature items except the singaras (samosas) so I gave it a average marking.

Being a hardcore Guwahatian I am quite familiar with this place. One of the oldest in town. For most Guwahatians shopping in Fancy bazar is not complete without having a hot cup of tea and a freshly made hot samosa served with chutney in Lakhimi Cabin. My personal favourite there is the Pati chapta sweet they serve. 1 is never enough fo me and i end up having 2-3 pati chaptas. Yes! It is that tastey. The samosa served there is 1 of the best in town. Apart from these other sweets, chops etc. are also great. You dont need good ambience in places like this. Cleanliness, speed and good food is what u expect frm places like this and they dont fail to stand up to your expectations.
Hrishiraj Talukdar

Rupam Phukan
One of the oldest.. Since 1940s. They have been serving well in the city. You go to Fancy Bazar, it is a must to taste their cup of tea and a samosa. Its always hot and tasty.
Soumi Sarkar
Typical sweet shop cum eating parlor where there are tables but no chairs yet it is mostly crowded by shoppers taking a break from their shopping spree at fancy bazar to have hot coffee with samosa. Though they are increasing the price and reducing the volume of coffee I enjoy their coffee the most!!! Aradhana Banerjee

Do try, if u yet dint try it.

Whether you grew up as a native of this now pulsating, burgeoning metropolis or happened to be, like I did, an outsider exiled from one of the many small towns of Assam in search of a better education, chances are pretty high that Lakhimi Cabin will figure in your personal history of adaptation and fat-aptation. Sneaking out of the lecture halls of beloved Cotton, I found solace in the generous aloo filling of its samosas alias singaras, soothed many a bout of homesickness with its steaming tea and realised more about life and the fight it is while jostling to order and procure my orders on crowded evenings when Fancy Bazaar spews it's load of bags and the men and women holding them into he small premises of this age old institution.

Truth be told now, the singaras are nothing special. You get better tea in fancy bazaar and the sweets are as mediocre as any other joint in Guwahati. Yet, an experience (not a joint, mind you, this) is not simply the cumulative score of checkboxes ticked and crossed, of fillings and tastes and clinical reviews.

Lakhimi Cabin does not fall in that niche; and that many of the natives of Guwahati and numerous of the naturalised denizens like me who have seen the city evolve will testify to.

Lakhimi Cabin is caught in a time warp and thankfully so. It is not the gesticulating spot of a wannabe food aficionado. It is an inextricable part of kharkhua lore. An indelible impression of the times we grew up in, still nurturing the city that once was.

And perhaps even impressions, no matter how faint, of the persons that we once were.

So go out, stand in the heat, sweat perspire and devour that singara with the red chutney and slurp the tea with zest and say Viva La Guwahati!

Been here for some of the most memorable tea and samosa of life. With classmates for that ol' tea joint feel; alone for the silent thinking and solitude. A usual routine when I visit this place would be to have tea and then walk to the river side for a evening stroll.
Siddhartha Kataki
Lakhimi Cabin is definitely one of the oldest joints in Guwahati, which has managed to survive the brunt of time. The samosas or 'singra' as it is known in the local dialect, with sweet chutney is definitely a crowd puller. At a time when most contemporaries have moved on to electric tea/coffee makers, lakhimi cabin still brew their tea the traditional way - something I not only love but also look forward to everytime I visit this place. However, don't step in expecting to rest your heels over some hunger satisfying food. Its got sweets and snacks on its limited menu which along with a cup tea is surely going to charge you up after a wild shopping spree.
The coffee along with the samosas are just awesome.......the price might be a little high considering the locality and ambience, but the taste is amazing and you might just want to come back here over and over again just for these two items......

Lakhimi Cabin is famous all over Guwahati for their samosas (singra in Assamese) and tea. Service is ultra quick and prices are very very affordable. Although the samosas are still good, they were way better in the earlier days. But a trip to my hometown is not complete without a round of samosas & tea at Lakhimi Cabin.

My rating - 3/5
Sangeeta Kalita (thatcravingfoodie)
The samosas and milk tea are what this place is famous for. Paati chepta is good as well. Moderate place. And a very old place in fancy bazar. My Mom made me try samosas here. Good I must say.
Priyanka Das
Visited this place a lot during my days in SSA pannazar. Not a resturant type place with A/c with comfy seating arrangement. Just a place to go for a cup of tea and their famous samosa with their sweet chutney. Have some gossips over the cup of tea and samosa..aah...what do you need more ?? Small things in life are enjoyed like this. Also it offers tasty sweets. A very old place it is.
Tituraj Kashyap
With its ancient heritage, this is a place to go for a cup of tea and its iconical "Singra"/ Samosa. You may not bump onto some extraordinary cooking but the energy is filled with the spirit of the tinsel town that once used to be bedrock of commercial activity for the entire region. Time has passed and so the footfall, may be, but the enigmatic energy that I draw every time I visit here is immaculate.

Visit it for a cup of hot tea served along with the steaming hot Singra in sweet sauce! Relish the adda!

Lakhimi Cabin is right in the middle of the busy Fancy Bazaar area. This place is famous for the variety of sweets it has to offers. Also, their Chai and Samosas with the sweet chatni, is something which you will definitely wish to try. Their sweets have always been of good quality and taste. Service is not that great though.
Must haves : Kaju Barfi, Rasgullas, Samosas and their Chai.
