Review Malabar Cafe - Kochi (Cochin)

Anju C Abraham
We visited Malabar Cafe for lunch buffet on Nov 30 at 12.30pm. We got one of the best premium dining experience in Kochi. They served a wide varieties of welcome drinks, starters, grills, main courses and deserts. Here are few of the reviews of the food that I tasted. 1. Welcome drinks - there were 4 types including passion fruit nannari, peach ice tea, pineapple juice and strawberry lassi..I tasted Passion fruit and was super refreshing. 2. Grilled foods - Tasted prawns and fish. Both are super fresh, nicely cooked and tasty. **Grilled items are served based on request. 3. Soups - one veg and one non-veg soup was served which is just average 4. Starters - they covered main items like chicken fry, mutton dry, paneer, chembu, chammanthy, some patties..which can satisfy majority of the Kerala taste buds. 5. Main course - Tried mutton biriyani which was outstanding and perfectly blended with masalas. Highly recommended. Rice with almost all vegetarian dishes, fried rice..were also served. 6. Deserts - If you are having a sweet tooth, then enjoy your heaven here with N number of desert items. The pista laddu has a unique taste and got my tick mark ;) All are freshly prepared/baked with an eye catching presentation. Hats off to the baking team. 7. Pickles(both veg and non veg) are of good quality and super tasty especially the prawns and fish pickle. Pappads, Kerala chammathies are also served. The restaurant is decorated with simple and elegant decors and have a great ambiance for dine-in. The staffs were very welcoming and always ready to help. Mentioning my sincere gratitude to Anand and Riyuni, who took care of our table. If you are looking for a premium level dining experience with a budget of 2000+ per head, then Malabar Cafe lunch buffet is highly recommended.

We stayed at the Hyatt and came here every morning for the breakfast and it's simply amazing. Good food, a lot of variety. Indian breakfast, English breakfast, continental, you will find everything you can think of. We also came here for the dinner buffet a few times which was also very good. The service is great.

I went to the Malabar Cafe for their dinner buffet, which had a large variety of mouth watering dishes. The cafe looks amazing, just what anyone would expect from a 5 star hotel's restaurant. All of the dishes, ranging from Kerala cuisine, Indian cuisine, Mediterranean salads, grills, a few Italian varieties and more had a decent quality, only very few dishes stood out. The food was pleasant, but for it's cost I would have expected a little better, but it didn't disappoint. With the countless options they provide I would recommend going early to have the time to try out all of them 😁. They have a delicious dessert collection too, but having a drawback of being hidden behind a glass display and served upon request. The whole buffet was a wonderful experience, but it's not worth more than a one-time visit.

One of the best buffets I ever tasted. The menu is so well crafted to satisfy a wide spectrum of people across the world. Ambience is classy. The theeyal and pachadi was out of this world. So well made with a lot of love. I would definitely visit this place again. The only downside i felt is the desert section. They could have added ice creams

The place itself is so overwhelming. The interiors are done so beautifully that refreshes your mind and soul. Tried their buffet. It has so many varieties of dishes, north indian , south indian. Also there was margarita pizza, and alfam.. that was different from normal buffets.. The starter barbequed prawns and tawa seer fry had a unique flavour. The attirachi samosa and chicken tikka was superb. The palkatti which was paneer fry was average. Kappa meencurry combo was delicious. The thalassery chicken biriyani, was tasty. There were wide options for pickles as well. Also the grill chicken, lamb stew, corn and scaffold rice and vegetable parmigiana, was nice. There were different varieties of salads which were all refreshing.Special mention to the desserts . The mango cheesecake, white angel pudding, chocolate gateux, honey nut icecream, cottoncandy icecream, burfies, all were yummy..!! Each of their item had a unique flavour. The service was really exceptional. The place is such a beauty and the view is so great, perfect for a nice stroll. The restrooms were all so well maintained and so pretty!

This week we went for a lunch buffet. The cafe’s ambience and view is good. All the dishes, from various cuisines had a decent quality, but only very few dishes stood out. The non vegetarian offerings ( predominantly Kerala cuisine) were many, while the vegetarian dishes were few and quality was below par. They have a fairly decent dessert collection too, but many are hidden behind a glass display and served upon request. The whole buffet was a good experience, but it's definitely not worth (INR2500) and deserves more than a one-time visit.

Serene atmosphere makes everything tasty. Hyatt and Lulu group has done a commendable job in building and maintaining this eye candy property on the shores of Vembanad lake. Malabar Café is spread in a wide area indoor and outdoor seating. Cuisine is traditional Kerala food, but the Chefs take extra care about your allergies and spice tolerance if informed. We had a fun evening with family at Malabar Café and enjoyed the nature as well outside.

I came to this restaurant last year for breakfast and loved it so much that I came back with my family this year for breakfast and lunch. The service, quality, and variety of food is incredible. During my recent visit we had Soyata helping us and she is so sweet! I highly recommend coming here during your next Kerala trip. You won't be disappointed! :)

The place and service is par with the international standards. The view from the cafe is scenic. The coconut falooda was top notch. Best for business meetings and small meet ups. PS : not talking about the malabar restaurant.Which is a dining place.

Excellent food. Menu is extensive and has high standard . Definitely a good choice for fine dining. Atmosphere is great and the staff is also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and are very professional in service. Namely, the service provided by Mr. Harsh Vardhan (restaurant manager) was really commendable . He made us feel welcomed and gave a good experience overall .Highly recommended.

Really good buffet spread and very good service... On demand items were delicious. Boat ride arranged by the hotel staff was well worth the money spent! Will definitely visit again!

I recently dined at Malabar Cafe in Grand Hyatt, Kochi, and it truly stands out as the best restaurant in Kerala for its delectable food, impeccable service, and attention to detail. The surprise addition of a special fish curry, expertly crafted by the celebrity chef, paired perfectly with tapioca, showcasing the chef's culinary mastery. Chef Latha's commitment to high-quality, authentic dishes using fresh ingredients prepared in a traditional manner is evident in every bite. Malabar Cafe is an awesome dining experience, and I highly recommend it for those seeking an exceptional taste of Kerala cuisine.

Awesome experience..I was there last night for my birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there with my family. Staff is so nice, very courteous and helpful, available at your service all the times. The food quality was awesome. The cake they served was fresh and too yummy.

best restaurant in Kochi if you want to experience any kind of cuisine whether Kerala local food or Indian cuisine and above all the staff is proactive in their service. Special thanks to service guy Stedlin who is the most kindhearted gentlemen here and will go miles to make his customers comfortable Kudos to team Malabar Cafe

During our stay at Hyatt, the breakfast buffet was a delightful experience for us and infacf for anyone seeking a diverse and delicious morning meal. The fusion of South Indian, North Indian, English flavors makes it a must-visit. The attentive staff and comfortable ambiance add to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend it!

Savoring perfection at the lakeside 5-star hotel restaurant! Spectacular views complement exquisite Kerala cuisine, featuring a live counter with delectable fish, prawns, beef and shawarma . A culinary delight with an unmatched ambiance."

Authentic Malabar food. Food is extremely top class, proper packaging biryani was delicious. Waiting for Malabar Café opening to dine with family again. <br/><br/>Anand.

I am very much familar with Thai food and it was not up to my expectation at all. I ordered it after seeing a Video - A Thai Chef cooking Green curry @ Hyatt Bolgatty. It appears that it was a hype. The green curry is missing many crucial vegitables, leaves etc which render it the flavour and taste. It is no different from the other hotels serving Thai food, under the tagline " Authentic Thai Cuisine". 🙁<br/>
Ananya Bhaduri
The food specialized in Kerala cuisine but it is also suited to the palate of those not used to the general spiciness associated with this particular cuisine.<br/>We had the chicken curry, appams, mutton roast, chicken roast and thaali. We also sampled their live grill and the fish (deep fry), squid (masala) and prawn (roast) which was delicious.<br/>The staff was very helpful and supplied us with additional accompaniments like curd and pickles. We went with our whole family and everyone had a good time.<br/>The view from the balcony is beautiful.<br/><br/>One point I would call out is that though we had booked and informed in advance that we would be celebrating a wedding anniversary that day, the management seem to have missed that detail and there was nothing special arranged for that. Our parents were expecting a mini cake which generally most other 5 star establishments provide.

Grand Hyatt in Kochi and Being a kochite How can I miss it. Waited for the right moment. Went there on Nov 23rd for lunch buffet with Parents n uncle as it was the Wedding anniversary of my parents. They were surprised bcoz I dint tel them it was Hyatt Lunch. So after initial surprises we went ahead for food. Spread is not really huge. But watever is there it was really good. Since parents r fans of kerala food watever on spread was too good for them especially mutton dishes. Biriyani was jus yumm. So starting wit chicken n spinach soup, it had a different taste. But really good one. Then went for appam n meen manga curry n kozhi n pidi. There was a delay in getting appam. I had orderred it first bt i cud see appams goin to other tables n my waiter asked to wait. Reduced 5 to 4 star due to delay. Then beef n kaya, mutton curry n biriyani everythg too good. Chicken pizza was normal. Dint shawarma bcoz i am nt a fan of it. Then dessert section. It had around 20types bt i dint find anythg that much interesting. Was looking for caramel pudding or sme thg simple. May be bcoz iam nt a dessert person. Then went for kerala rice curd sambhar n pickle bcoz i cudnt kerala rice behind being the biggest fan of it. It was good too. That was it. Had a lime tea n wrap it up. Everyone enjoyed it. Since it was too sunny dint go out for pics. Bt will definitely come for a dinner to enjoy the night view. Also planning for breakfast buffet. If anyone has gone pls help wit the rates. <br/>I wouldnt say this is the top notch buffet. I believe there is always space to push ur limits.

I wouldn't recommend the lunch buffet they provide. Other than the live sea food and appam counters there is nothing much in the menu. For less price there are other places where you can get a better menu for lunch buffet.

We've visited Malabar Cafe twice over the past couple of months. On both occasions, we opted for the Dinner Buffet and were not disappointed. The spread is decadent, the food top notch and the service, extremely warm and attentive. Everything ranging from Starters to Desserts are delectable but it truly is the Dessert section that had us bowled over! The Live Seafood Grill serves some of the best seafood I've ever had, ranging from King Fish and Jumbo Prawns to Anchovies.<br/><br/>An incident I would like to fondly recollect is one during our first visit in July on the occasion of our Anniversary. It was a last minute plan and we had walked in without making reservations. It was almost towards the end of restaurant hours when I requested whether my dessert plate could be decorated with a simple "Happy Anniversary" lettering along with one of the cakes on display. I was told that they didn't have the icing available on hand at the counter and I had accepted that when another member of staff, who overheard my request said it wouldn't be a problem and would be done.<br/><br/>A few minutes later, we were surprised with a beautiful cake which we cut while the staff kindly took videos and clicked pictures. Even though this isn't something out of the ordinary, I feel the need to specially mention this cos we had not made any prior arrangements for the same and like I said, the restaurant was nearing closing time. So to go out of the way to do this for us really made our day memorable and for that I would truly like to thank the staff in charge!<br/><br/>Our second visit was last month, with family visiting India on holiday and they too had a really good time. The food, ambience and hospitality here is truly impeccable and we cannot wait to visit again!

I waz in kochi, had a luxury stay with Grand Hyatt, while i was here i did tried malabar cafe for my evening snack, the ambience is juzt gorgeous n lovely, i had the most expensive shawarma here which was for Rs.900/- complimentary some crispy puffs were served with salad n dip. The taste waz worth spending this amount for just a chicken shawarma, the roll was crisp n soft plus the stuffing was well cooked with good amount of chicken in it. I also had a chocolate milk shake which was worth the buy forsure...yummmm.<br/><br/>Will definitely give 5 star...highly recommended.

I just can't describe in words how polite and attentive the staff is. We had stayed there for a night and first walked into this place during dinner time. The staff will smile and genuinely have eye contact when they wish you. The luxury is not limited to the rooms or till you order. It exceeds much more than your expectations and make you feel comfortable. Of course there is no need to elaborate on the ambience.<br/><br/>We ordered attirachi biryani (mutton). The meat was perfectly cooked and falling off the bone. Very important for me, the salt and spices were perfect. Almost melt in the mouth kind of feeling. The evening was made perfect blend of the sulaimani. Highly recommended!<br/><br/>The breakfast buffet was also a large spread. Live counters of different types of dosas, omelette, parathas etc. A huge appreciation to the staff who manages everything with a smile.

I just loved the juicy and exquisite flavour it had and I recommend it to all.I was really happy and satisfied with their cuisine. Really great Experience

When it comes to luxury cuisine in Kochi there are only a handful of them, Hyatt is one among them. Though the service they provide is a bit straggle for the price they render. The ambiance they provide is luxuriance. Very peaceful with the view of Vembanad lake on the side of it. The menu is limited and not so authentic in the way they deliver Kerala traditional cuisine. A good place to be with your friends for a good meet up. I would visit here once in a blue moon.
Gayathri Snikda
Biryani, Pizza and everything nice. The Buffet was really good. From the starters to the dessert everything was one of a kind. Wide variety to choose among.

A simple, baked cheesecake is the best dessert possible because it feels like meditation after a chaotic day. As if you are allowing your tastebuds a delicious rest. And if the cheese cake is also topped with fresh cut berries and some compote, I'm sold!<br/>But trying to find the best baked cheesecake in town proved to be tedious to me. You'll get the chilled, creamy cheesecake a plenty. But the baked varient has its own charm.<br/>Grand Hyatt at Bolgatty serves an elegant cheesecake in all its simplistic glory for Rs.300/-. It's available at the dessert bar at lounge. Ask for it to be served at the terrace and you have a dessert with a view. Pair it with a white wine that compliments the acidity and you have a winner! Let the cheesecake melt in while you sink into those moments of nirvana...
ATUL RAJWANSH
Worst taste ever<br/>The sitting arrangements are also not very hygienic<br/>Chapati is made up of maida<br/>Taste of all main course dishes were pathetic<br/>It's better to have dinner in resort only

One the top star hotels in kochi with an outstanding service. And the best view of the backwaters. <br/>The restaurant serves authentic food, with fresh ingredients from the local market as well as in house farming. Great food, hospitality and ambience.

Mutton Biriyani and Grilled King Prawns from the live grills! The visit to Malabar Cafe at @grandhyattkochi was totally a worth after I had this yummylicious lunch. The king prawns were super fresh and yum. The lamb biriyani was fantastic with soft soft mutton pieces cooked in flavourful masala. Undoubtedly, yet another amazing place that serves the best traditional Kerala style cuisines. Kudos to the team for the amazing service and well done interiors!!😊💓<br/><br/>#foodexplorer #myfoodstories #foodprincess94 #followmeoninsta #myfoodblog #loveforfood #foodieforlife #amazingplace #mustvisit

This restaurant provides us with the typical kerala dishes and also the dishes from northern India and wide varieties from other parts of the world. The ambience is good with a beautiful view of Cochin islands and backwater/ Vembanad Lake. Must go place.

Undoubtedly one of the best place in cochin to have a fancy buffet. Great ambience, great food and great people. I really appreciate the attitude of each and every one of the team and a big kudos for finding such a great team. Will visit more for sure

Great Ambience, One of the best hotels to have buffet, even though not regularly 😂, (its quite expensive ) well they will serve a lots of dishes, dessert i am not sure about all the names of the dishes but it was a quite good experience. That for the amazing food Grand Hyatt.
Marta
Great interior design, ambience and contagious staff (as you expect from a 5 star hotel ;), the food however was rather dissapointing - veg biryani very plane and

I don’t think rating less than 5 would be faithful. Ambience was excellent, food was absolutely amazing and more importantly, customer service was amazing. Price is very reasonable if you consider other five star hotels. I’d definitely recommend anyone this restaurant who’d like to get some amazing food with some amazing views.

Good food and service, visited first time with family. Decent Price and nice spreaded dinner buffet with more food options must try live fry fish apam biryani

One of the best in Kochi to try traditional Malabar style cuisine , my favourite is appam with mappas , and for sure some Kulukki with them, biriyanis were also really good .Loved the ambience there ,special thanks to Chef Aswini and whole team for amazing hospitality .

The food was ok but the servers babu and Amal were really polite and they made my mother's birthday a special event. It was around mid night and they were working with great enthusiasm.

This is a very nice place. They have lots of food on offer. Ambience is very good. They offer a good view outside. Food over there is not much expensive.

The restaurant was very calm and very good looking and very spacious the dinner was exceptional and truly tasty and the desserts were the star of the night if u are visiting kochi u must definitely come here for dinner and stay here in grand Hyatt bolgatty if not ur vacation plan in kochi is incomplete because the view from the hotel rooms are very rare and awesome and crazy good the hospitality here is outstanding and the people here are very professional and kind

Went for a Sunday lunch at Malabar Cafe to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The ambience and view stands out among other 5 star joints in Cochin. <br/>The spread for the buffet was not that large particularly the salad bar. The soup was not served hot. Main course was just ok and live stations for fish and pasta lived up to the expectations. For me desserts were absolutely delicious. To sum up we expected bit more for the price we pay.<br/><br/>PS : They offered a Bday cake for my wife, but no one turned up afterwards!!!
Nathalia Rodrigues
I had Sent my parents here for their wedding anniversary for the dinner buffet. Had high expectations and hope that the food would be amazing. However my parents were upset with the kind of buffet spread that is was there last Sunday. The standard for Hyatt is supposed to be really good and we have experienced that elsewhere. Seeing the good reviews as well sent them here. <br/>We noted that food wasn’t remarkable. Being Malabar cafe the expectation of the Seafood variety too was high. But they were letdown on the taste, kind of fish and the variety served. <br/>Paying a huge amount for the buffet u have to be happy with the meal and food served. Which was not the case. <br/>But the service and the courteous staff was commendable and highly appreciated. Keep up to the great service. Looking forward to better dining experience. <br/>

A great food with amazing service by the team , Chef Latha is the star of the restaurant , food as can always say its the yummiest food in the entire kochi, if you are visiting kochi must say you should visit and try the dinner

This is a beautiful place.. interiors done so well! Lots of light pouring in, fresh appams being made.. complete with a kulukki stand, not to mention a colorful buffet.<br/><br/>Specials for the day was fish biriyani and lunch meals. The buffet was closed for the day so we ordered off the menu.<br/><br/>The fish biriyani was delicious, which came with pieces of softly cooked fish, fried fish, and for some reason.. fried chicken. Was a good platter.<br/>The lunch meals had a variety of dishes including paayasam. We also ordered a seer fish pollichathu which comes in a banana leaf. This was really good too.<br/><br/>Overall, good food, served by very considerate staff.
Richard Sunny
Lovely ambience, warm welcome and ample number of staff to look after each table.<br/>The non veg live counter is drool worthy, live appam parotta and puttu was fantastic.<br/><br/>Why have I given 3 stars??<br/>It’s Malabar Cafe and I feel they need to stick to the name!<br/>When it’s Malabar, you think of tender coconut as a drink and not lassi 😑 or passion peach 😑<br/>You serve puttu but no kadala curry, there is red rice but no veg curries (sambar, rasam, morr), appam but no stew and no kappa.<br/>No Malabar desserts!!<br/><br/>And some how there is a continental counter at the end of the section 🧐🧐.<br/><br/>All said and done,<br/>Will surely visit this place on my next visit to kochi.<br/><br/>
Roby Abraham
The lunch buffet in the weekend is not value for money. The spread, in terms of variety and quantity wouldn’t have mattered if the quality was good. There was barely a dish that had an authentic or nice flavour. Hyatt Kochi, should buck up and improve their standards considerably.

â–ș Bottom Line<br/>"Good Food is the foundation of Genuine Happiness"<br/><br/>This famous phrase came into my mind after visiting the Malabar Cafe a quintessential restaurant of this renowned and massive hotel. I've been here on a Friday morning to have a glimpse of their amazing spread in Breakfast. I would like to say that I had the best breakfast buffet from here till now from across all the restaurants which I have visited.<br/><br/>â–șDecor<br/><br/>The place was really immaculate. I felt like I have entered into another country the moment I stepped inside. The restaurant was fully crowded with South East Asian and Arabic people from various corporate firms when I made my visit here. I could hardly find a couple of Indian people inside the restaurant except the staffs. They were a group of 50 - 60 members and were staying in Grand Hyatt. Either you can dine at their main hall or there is a terrace section outside where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic view of their swimming pool along with the pool bar and the far off lake .<br/><br/>There is another restaurant called Thai Soul situated in the lower basement near to the pool which are specialized in Thai Cuisines. They have also got a pool bar near to the pool for providing drinks at night. Currently its still under renovation and will be opened soon. They have also arranged a Spa in one of the basement floors for the customers to relax, rejoice and to rejuvenate their time in Grand Hyatt.<br/><br/>â–ș Customer Service<br/><br/>"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others"<br/><br/>Their hospitality was top notch "The best I have seen so far". Staffs were very cheerful, courteous and attentive. My attendant for the day was Mr. Anandhu. Anandhu was very polite, professional and friendly. He was very attentive and kept an eye on my table most of the time. He was very knowledgeable in the dishes and suggested the best options for breakfast. Special mention to Babu who helped me to expedite the payment process and also to their lady staffs Anshu and Nguishi (not so sure about the name) who were there at the concierge section for helping me out to get the table. They were very polite and cheerful. All their staffs at the Malabar cafe are very attentive, cheerful and will always smile at their customers and this is something which I have rarely seen in restaurants so far. A special applause for that and It was an impeccable service which I have received from Grand Hyatt.<br/><br/>â–ș Menu<br/><br/>"Food is the best way to reach someone's heart"<br/><br/>I was really impressed with the amazing spread provided for morning breakfast. The number of items for the day were vast and had the best picked items from various cuisines starting from our own "Pazham Kanji & Moru Kachiyath" to the French style Waffles. "A woman's hands will be always there behind any successful foundation" and the same is shown here too. The success of Malabar Cafe can be credited to Smt. Latha the back bone of Malabar Cafe who has shown her mettle in her culinary skills. She is regarded as the first Lady chef of Kerala" and majority of the food items in Malar Cafe are prepared under her guidance. Morning buffet for breakfast will be provided on all days and Buffet in Lunch will be available on weekends and on other special days. Normally they will feature alacarte menu on weekdays for lunch. I look forward to have a lunch buffet from Malabar Cafe and would like to experience the culinary skills of Smt. Latha in future.<br/><br/>The spread for the day were:<br/><br/>(1) Appam ( Plain/ Egg )<br/><br/>(2) Mysore Masala Dosa<br/><br/>(3) Ghee Roast<br/><br/>(4) Vada<br/><br/>(5) Rawa Upma<br/><br/>(6) Idly ( Podi/Plain/Kanchipuram/Ragi/Pidi)<br/><br/>(7) Sausages ( Beef/Chicken)<br/><br/>(8) Chicken Curry<br/><br/>(9) Steamed Banana<br/><br/>(10) Pazham Kanji with Moru Kachiyath<br/><br/>(11) Sambar<br/><br/>(12) Chutneys ( Carrot/Tomato/Corriander/Dhaba Chutney/Peanuts/Coconut )<br/><br/>(13) Desserts ( Gluten Free Bread/ Banana Cake/ Blueberry Candle Muffin/Cherry Buchteln/ Multigrain Croissant)<br/><br/>(14) Cheeses ( Cheddar/ Gouda/ Emmental/ Camembert)<br/><br/>(15) Lettuce (Romaine/ Arugula/ Red chard)<br/><br/>(16) Pickles ( Prunes/ Kiwi)<br/><br/>(17) Seasonal Cut fruits<br/><br/>(18) Veg Stew<br/><br/>Under Beverages<br/><br/>(17) Nannari Vellam<br/><br/>(18) Sweet Lassi<br/><br/>(19) Banana Milk Shake<br/><br/>(20) Apple Juice<br/><br/>(21) Tea (Regular/Masala)<br/><br/>(22) Coffee<br/><br/>(23) Waffles<br/><br/>They had also arranged a live counter for few of the items where the customers can pick up their own choices. They had also configured a live juice counter too.<br/><br/>â–șMy Pick ups for the day<br/><br/>I couldn't reach my hands in all of their items in the spread. I had managed to try a handful of items before my tummy gets filled. My picks for the day were<br/><br/>(1) Appam & Chicken Curry<br/><br/>(2) Mysore Masala Dosa<br/><br/>(3) Beef & Chicken Sausages<br/><br/>(4) Coffee<br/><br/>(5) Apple Juice<br/><br/>(6) Banana Milk Shake<br/><br/>(7) Vada<br/><br/>(8) Kanchipuram Idly<br/><br/>(9) All variants of chutneys<br/><br/>Everything which I have tried was equally scrumptious. I liked the sausages very much and also the different variants of chutneys especially the dhaba chutney. Appam was so crispy and soft, the hotness in it was retained when it came to my table and thus it became the perfect combination to have with chicken curry.<br/><br/>â–ș Cost:<br/><br/>Cost for breakfast buffet was 850 + Taxes and overall I had to pay Rs 1003.<br/><br/>â–ș Verdict:<br/><br/>Grand Hyatt is undoubtedly the best 5 star hotel in Kochi and Malabar Cafe will surely add more feathers to its cap. I would recommend Malabar Cafe wholeheartedly as one of the best options in Kochi to indulge in mouth watering Malabar,Kerala and South Indian dishes. Excellent service by the staffs and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious ambience makes them to stand out from their peers. I look forward again to be in this place and to taste their mouth watering dishes which are prepared under Smt. Latha's supervision.<br/><br/>Highly Recommended (y)

Ambience- 5/5<br/>The ambience of this restaurant is very beautiful and lovely. The view from the window is the best.<br/><br/>Service- 3/5<br/>The service staff was a little confused and the service was a little slow. We had opted for the lunch buffet and from the live counter we had asked for something which came to our table after we were almost done with our food.<br/><br/>Food-5/5<br/>The food quality, variety and flavour were all very good. We wanted to try some local food which was also present in the buffet. All in all, a great experience that I would live to enjoy again. If for nothing else then I would recommend this restaurant for the beautiful view of the city that it provides.

Visited for a family get together. Was served by Nikhil, who was extremely courteous and well mannered.<br/><br/>Though the food has been adjusted to meet a more continental crowd, it was nearly up the mark and made up for in the ambience and service.<br/>A bit of authentic and rustic spice was missing.<br/>Inspite of this I would strongly suggest everyone to visit this place and have a good time.

A lovely restaurant on the waterfront serving Kerala cuisine.they have a buffet which non vegetarians will enjoy but we were a group of 100% vegetarians so the staff went out of their way to get us veg food eventhough it was not on the buffet .<br/>Excellent place , excellent service .<br/>I also came to know that mine was the first booking they got through Zomato .<br/>Well handled experience<br/>

This place has a very good ambience with a stunning view. The super delicious beef cutlets and the lamb pepper curry was prepared in the proper authentic Kerala style. Hats off to Chef Antisha Mathew for being proactive and her extended initiative in understanding the kind of food preparation the customers are looking for.. this is a must visit place!

Good filter coffee, tea, hot chocolate and brownies. I’ve been to the lounge but not the restaurant. The lounge is best visited at around tea time.

While we entered, the person who greeted us told us that there’s no buffet available. In shock, we still decided to go for the à la carte. Once we reached the restaurant, they tell us that the buffet is there everyday. Joyously went for the buffet lunch! First things first, the view feels like you’re in the Caribbean islands! Okay, maybe that’s me being a little extra. But the view was the highlight of this meal. Coming to the food, fresh seafood, appam and the usuals. The spread was average, but considering the price point , it was definitely a steal. My infant nephew was with us. The staff kept checking if we needed help . Great service!

I went to this place few days back.<br/>The ambience and the place by itself was very nice to dine and the staff were very courteous and very professional. I highly recommend this place to all folks who want to try the authentic Malabar cuisine.

Had two trips to the place..one with friends n kids and the other with family..the experience was grt. Service warm and friendly..extremely kids friendly..on weekends however would suggest to book the table. Had the buffet once and later went a la carte..buffet starters..the appams..the deserts stood out. From the menu..had the beef cutlets..couple of kulukki sarbets..and the biriyani..taste wise they score a 4..the setting with a panoramic view of kochi backwater/ waterways..makes it<br/>a must visit

Tried a few items from their all-day menu at Malabar Cafe!! Marvelous service!! And the food we ordered were gastronomic pleasure! 😍 <br/><br/>I ordered the Beef Burger and boy I'm glad I did! The meat was juicy af. So juicy my mouth is watering right now. And the cheese covered the patty so perfectly! 😬 even the bun was light and dry and not chewy! <br/><br/>My friends ordered the steak sandwich. Which was also top notch! The meat was medium well-done just like we wanted! And the dips that accompanied it went great!! <br/>As a French fries addict the ones Malabar Cafe offered was great and crunchy and the right kind of salty. <br/><br/>The chef was kind enough to offer us some biriyani to taste thanks to Shirin's recommendation! It really was one of the best biriyani I've had! The rice was nice and fluffy and the masala was just right! The accompanying dates pickle was a big hit! She also got us to try some achari chicken curry which I will come back to have again! đŸ€€ great flavors that literally slowly exploded in my mouth!!! 😍 <br/>It looked like it was going to be super spicy but it was just the right spicy! <br/><br/>On top of all the great food! The service was exemplary! The staff was kind enough to give great recommendations and it hit the mark!<br/><br/>I'll definitely be coming back for more here!😁

As you enter you are enthralled by the high ceilings and beautifully decorated restaurant. Wait the treat is not over step over to the balcony and you are mesmerized by the view of the backwaters. We opted for the buffet priced at 1600 +tax.. seems a little steep...but is worth it... the spread is huge you will be full just tasting everything... so words from the wise don't taste everything... they have a lot of exquisite dishes that you should binge on. Hold on tour not over check out their dessert bar it has a candy too. trust me if you take kids they would be squealing throughout the meal to grab some... so leave your body shapers at home, grab the most comfortable but chic clothes you can find (after all you are going to a five star restaurant) and take your senses out for a treat of a lifetime

Hyatt group of hotels are always top notch and has a standard of their own. Visited this Kochi branch for dinner the first time yesterday and I was mind blown by the experience! The ambience is superb and the overall presentation and service is simply amazing. I was overwhelmed by their hospitality.<br/><br/>Now coming to the food part, we had Chemmeen Vada for starter and it was a very unique preparation. It was the first time that I tried something like this and it was really good. For main we had two Chicken biriyanis and also a Mutton Biryani. They were good dishes as well. We even tried their Appam along with Karimeen Polichatu and it was also a great dish. Finally for dessert we had Payasam and it was a good item as well. Also I would like to appreciate Mr. Dew for his excellent services to us yesterday and hope the management acknowledge him for this.<br/><br/>Overall I am really happy about the place and would definitely visit more times in the future. Also I recommend Grand Hyatt to all in Kochi.

Had a wonderful experience at the Hyatt’s malabar cafe restaurant . An elegant welcoming ambience along with the most friendliest staff made our dinner experience even more worthy . Must mention about their service which is simply outstanding ( Thank you Harsha for making us feel extra special ) . Food was indeed amazing, we opted for the buffet dinner which had a huge spread of authentic malabar and kerala cuisine . From tawa grilled prawns to crispy hot appams and steaming puttu to authentic kozhikodan biriyani , phew the list is endless. Wash it down with a selection of their refreshing kulukki sarbaths ( dont skip this ) and mocktails. Thank you Hyatt for the good food , hospitality and ambience . A must visit for all malabar food lovers.

Grand Hyatt has always been on the top list when it comes to hotel and finally it came to our god own country and that too in Kochi. Grand Hyatt Kochi has three restaurants and one them is Malabar cafe. Malabar Cafe of grand Hyatt mainly focus on the Kerala style food, especially the Malabar region. They have this amazing stories of how the Malabar cafe was founded and it was told to me by one of the staff of the cafe. Even each dish has a story which is really interesting. You can feel the pulse of the Kerala food in the menu starting from the Kulikii sharbath to Karimeen Polichathu.<br/><br/>Moving on to the food we started with the dishes in menu of Malabar cafe, they also have buffet lunch on Saturday and Sunday also on special days with live grills. We started it with different shakes like Tender coconut shake, Banana shake, Boost Shake and Cafe Mocha too drinks tasted pretty decent, tender coconut shake was pretty. Starters we tried chemmen vada, kozhi pathiri, Malabari beef cutlet every tasted pretty good, but the star attraction was the chemmen vada which is the best Kerala style starter which you could ever get. Moving on to the main course we started with the iconic Karimeen Pollichath, its basically pearl spot fish, we can’t say it’s the best meen pollichathu you can find in kochi , but I can assure that its one the best which i have ever tried. Chemmen Moilee and other dishes where good too. <br/><br/>The overall experience was pretty good the ambiance the food everything was great, they have really good antique stuff inside the cafe which actually reminds us about the olden days. Highly recommended for everyone

Deserves a 5 for food, ambience & 4 for service.<br/><br/>What a nice property & a well appointed restaurant with an open kitchen with inviting aroma.<br/><br/>Love the sunlight & view if the backwaters.<br/><br/>Great Veg & Non veg options!<br/><br/>My parents were pleasantly impressed with the Veg Mappas (veg stew in coconut milk) & Mushroom Thiyal. This was accompanied with Malabar porota & Appam both served hot! đŸ‘đŸŒ<br/><br/>I ordered a fish cooked in banana leaves (Pearl spot) that was nice, good level of spice but a bit too oily!<br/><br/>Service needs to be upped a bit to make it a top restaurant in town, needless to say alcohol licensce would make a winner.

Visited this restaurant for lunch and tried their chicken biriyani. It was a lovely biriyani with generous amount of chicken and rice. The chicken was well cooked with the right amount of masala. Simple but very tasty. Also tried a marine drive kuluki which was very tasty. <br/><br/>The service was excellent too. Good well spoken staff and very attentive. Will come back soon to try their buffet.

Grand Hyatt, Bolgatty surprise me with the exceptional All day dining Malabar Cafe .. the food was awesome and I give it to chef Prabha for the lamb chops. The view is exceptional and this restaurant overlooks bolgatty. The staff is very helpful and they made brilliant desserts on our request. Cheesecake gulab jamun is a speciality here .. the 2nd & 3rd pics are view from my homestead though

Hi we went to Hyatt Kochi yesterday with my family. Ambience was really good... Maitre d' , Chef all good but lower level staff👎. But the seniors more than made up the shortcoming.
