Authentic Malabar food. Food is extremely top class, proper packaging biryani was delicious. Waiting for Malabar Café opening to dine with family again.
Anand.
The food specialized in Kerala cuisine but it is also suited to the palate of those not used to the general spiciness associated with this particular cuisine.
We had the chicken curry, appams, mutton roast, chicken roast and thaali. We also sampled their live grill and the fish (deep fry), squid (masala) and prawn (roast) which was delicious.
The staff was very helpful and supplied us with additional accompaniments like curd and pickles. We went with our whole family and everyone had a good time.
The view from the balcony is beautiful.
One point I would call out is that though we had booked and informed in advance that we would be celebrating a wedding anniversary that day, the management seem to have missed that detail and there was nothing special arranged for that. Our parents were expecting a mini cake which generally most other 5 star establishments provide.
Grand Hyatt in Kochi and Being a kochite How can I miss it. Waited for the right moment. Went there on Nov 23rd for lunch buffet with Parents n uncle as it was the Wedding anniversary of my parents. They were surprised bcoz I dint tel them it was Hyatt Lunch. So after initial surprises we went ahead for food. Spread is not really huge. But watever is there it was really good. Since parents r fans of kerala food watever on spread was too good for them especially mutton dishes. Biriyani was jus yumm. So starting wit chicken n spinach soup, it had a different taste. But really good one. Then went for appam n meen manga curry n kozhi n pidi. There was a delay in getting appam. I had orderred it first bt i cud see appams goin to other tables n my waiter asked to wait. Reduced 5 to 4 star due to delay. Then beef n kaya, mutton curry n biriyani everythg too good. Chicken pizza was normal. Dint shawarma bcoz i am nt a fan of it. Then dessert section. It had around 20types bt i dint find anythg that much interesting. Was looking for caramel pudding or sme thg simple. May be bcoz iam nt a dessert person. Then went for kerala rice curd sambhar n pickle bcoz i cudnt kerala rice behind being the biggest fan of it. It was good too. That was it. Had a lime tea n wrap it up. Everyone enjoyed it. Since it was too sunny dint go out for pics. Bt will definitely come for a dinner to enjoy the night view. Also planning for breakfast buffet. If anyone has gone pls help wit the rates.
I wouldnt say this is the top notch buffet. I believe there is always space to push ur limits.
We've visited Malabar Cafe twice over the past couple of months. On both occasions, we opted for the Dinner Buffet and were not disappointed. The spread is decadent, the food top notch and the service, extremely warm and attentive. Everything ranging from Starters to Desserts are delectable but it truly is the Dessert section that had us bowled over! The Live Seafood Grill serves some of the best seafood I've ever had, ranging from King Fish and Jumbo Prawns to Anchovies.
An incident I would like to fondly recollect is one during our first visit in July on the occasion of our Anniversary. It was a last minute plan and we had walked in without making reservations. It was almost towards the end of restaurant hours when I requested whether my dessert plate could be decorated with a simple "Happy Anniversary" lettering along with one of the cakes on display. I was told that they didn't have the icing available on hand at the counter and I had accepted that when another member of staff, who overheard my request said it wouldn't be a problem and would be done.
A few minutes later, we were surprised with a beautiful cake which we cut while the staff kindly took videos and clicked pictures. Even though this isn't something out of the ordinary, I feel the need to specially mention this cos we had not made any prior arrangements for the same and like I said, the restaurant was nearing closing time. So to go out of the way to do this for us really made our day memorable and for that I would truly like to thank the staff in charge!
Our second visit was last month, with family visiting India on holiday and they too had a really good time. The food, ambience and hospitality here is truly impeccable and we cannot wait to visit again!
I waz in kochi, had a luxury stay with Grand Hyatt, while i was here i did tried malabar cafe for my evening snack, the ambience is juzt gorgeous n lovely, i had the most expensive shawarma here which was for Rs.900/- complimentary some crispy puffs were served with salad n dip. The taste waz worth spending this amount for just a chicken shawarma, the roll was crisp n soft plus the stuffing was well cooked with good amount of chicken in it. I also had a chocolate milk shake which was worth the buy forsure...yummmm.
Will definitely give 5 star...highly recommended.
I just can't describe in words how polite and attentive the staff is. We had stayed there for a night and first walked into this place during dinner time. The staff will smile and genuinely have eye contact when they wish you. The luxury is not limited to the rooms or till you order. It exceeds much more than your expectations and make you feel comfortable. Of course there is no need to elaborate on the ambience.
We ordered attirachi biryani (mutton). The meat was perfectly cooked and falling off the bone. Very important for me, the salt and spices were perfect. Almost melt in the mouth kind of feeling. The evening was made perfect blend of the sulaimani. Highly recommended!
The breakfast buffet was also a large spread. Live counters of different types of dosas, omelette, parathas etc. A huge appreciation to the staff who manages everything with a smile.
I just loved the juicy and exquisite flavour it had and I recommend it to all.I was really happy and satisfied with their cuisine. Really great Experience
Biryani, Pizza and everything nice. The Buffet was really good. From the starters to the dessert everything was one of a kind. Wide variety to choose among.
One the top star hotels in kochi with an outstanding service. And the best view of the backwaters.
The restaurant serves authentic food, with fresh ingredients from the local market as well as in house farming. Great food, hospitality and ambience.
Mutton Biriyani and Grilled King Prawns from the live grills! The visit to Malabar Cafe at @grandhyattkochi was totally a worth after I had this yummylicious lunch. The king prawns were super fresh and yum. The lamb biriyani was fantastic with soft soft mutton pieces cooked in flavourful masala. Undoubtedly, yet another amazing place that serves the best traditional Kerala style cuisines. Kudos to the team for the amazing service and well done interiors!!😊💓

We visited Malabar Cafe for lunch buffet on Nov 30 at 12.30pm. We got one of the best premium dining experience in Kochi. They served a wide varieties of welcome drinks, starters, grills, main courses and deserts.
Here are few of the reviews of the food that I tasted.
1. Welcome drinks - there were 4 types including passion fruit nannari, peach ice tea, pineapple juice and strawberry lassi..I tasted Passion fruit and was super refreshing.
2. Grilled foods - Tasted prawns and fish. Both are super fresh, nicely cooked and tasty. **Grilled items are served based on request.
3. Soups - one veg and one non-veg soup was served which is just average
4. Starters - they covered main items like chicken fry, mutton dry, paneer, chembu, chammanthy, some patties..which can satisfy majority of the Kerala taste buds.
5. Main course - Tried mutton biriyani which was outstanding and perfectly blended with masalas. Highly recommended. Rice with almost all vegetarian dishes, fried rice..were also served.
6. Deserts - If you are having a sweet tooth, then enjoy your heaven here with N number of desert items. The pista laddu has a unique taste and got my tick mark ;) All are freshly prepared/baked with an eye catching presentation. Hats off to the baking team.
7. Pickles(both veg and non veg) are of good quality and super tasty especially the prawns and fish pickle. Pappads, Kerala chammathies are also served.
The restaurant is decorated with simple and elegant decors and have a great ambiance for dine-in.
The staffs were very welcoming and always ready to help. Mentioning my sincere gratitude to Anand and Riyuni, who took care of our table.
If you are looking for a premium level dining experience with a budget of 2000+ per head, then Malabar Cafe lunch buffet is highly recommended.
We stayed at the Hyatt and came here every morning for the breakfast and it's simply amazing. Good food, a lot of variety. Indian breakfast, English breakfast, continental, you will find everything you can think of.
We also came here for the dinner buffet a few times which was also very good.
The service is great.
I went to the Malabar Cafe for their dinner buffet, which had a large variety of mouth watering dishes. The cafe looks amazing, just what anyone would expect from a 5 star hotel's restaurant. All of the dishes, ranging from Kerala cuisine, Indian cuisine, Mediterranean salads, grills, a few Italian varieties and more had a decent quality, only very few dishes stood out. The food was pleasant, but for it's cost I would have expected a little better, but it didn't disappoint. With the countless options they provide I would recommend going early to have the time to try out all of them 😁. They have a delicious dessert collection too, but having a drawback of being hidden behind a glass display and served upon request. The whole buffet was a wonderful experience, but it's not worth more than a one-time visit.
One of the best buffets I ever tasted. The menu is so well crafted to satisfy a wide spectrum of people across the world. Ambience is classy. The theeyal and pachadi was out of this world. So well made with a lot of love. I would definitely visit this place again. The only downside i felt is the desert section. They could have added ice creams
The place itself is so overwhelming. The interiors are done so beautifully that refreshes your mind and soul. Tried their buffet. It has so many varieties of dishes, north indian , south indian. Also there was margarita pizza, and alfam.. that was different from normal buffets.. The starter barbequed prawns and tawa seer fry had a unique flavour. The attirachi samosa and chicken tikka was superb. The palkatti which was paneer fry was average. Kappa meencurry combo was delicious. The thalassery chicken biriyani, was tasty. There were wide options for pickles as well. Also the grill chicken, lamb stew, corn and scaffold rice and vegetable parmigiana, was nice. There were different varieties of salads which were all refreshing.Special mention to the desserts . The mango cheesecake, white angel pudding, chocolate gateux, honey nut icecream, cottoncandy icecream, burfies, all were yummy..!! Each of their item had a unique flavour. The service was really exceptional. The place is such a beauty and the view is so great, perfect for a nice stroll. The restrooms were all so well maintained and so pretty!
This week we went for a lunch buffet. The cafe’s ambience and view is good. All the dishes, from various cuisines had a decent quality, but only very few dishes stood out. The non vegetarian offerings ( predominantly Kerala cuisine) were many, while the vegetarian dishes were few and quality was below par. They have a fairly decent dessert collection too, but many are hidden behind a glass display and served upon request. The whole buffet was a good experience, but it's definitely not worth (INR2500) and deserves more than a one-time visit.
Serene atmosphere makes everything tasty. Hyatt and Lulu group has done a commendable job in building and maintaining this eye candy property on the shores of Vembanad lake. Malabar Café is spread in a wide area indoor and outdoor seating. Cuisine is traditional Kerala food, but the Chefs take extra care about your allergies and spice tolerance if informed. We had a fun evening with family at Malabar Café and enjoyed the nature as well outside.
I came to this restaurant last year for breakfast and loved it so much that I came back with my family this year for breakfast and lunch. The service, quality, and variety of food is incredible. During my recent visit we had Soyata helping us and she is so sweet! I highly recommend coming here during your next Kerala trip. You won't be disappointed! :)
The place and service is par with the international standards. The view from the cafe is scenic. The coconut falooda was top notch. Best for business meetings and small meet ups.
PS : not talking about the malabar restaurant.Which is a dining place.
Excellent food. Menu is extensive and has high standard . Definitely a good choice for fine dining. Atmosphere is great and the staff is also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and are very professional in service. Namely, the service provided by Mr. Harsh Vardhan (restaurant manager) was really commendable . He made us feel welcomed and gave a good experience overall .Highly recommended.
