Review Mad Hatter's - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Somek Choudhury Kolkata Food Trotters
Enjoyed a lovely late lunch with a friend (who didn't wish to be photographed or tagged bcz he felt his girlfriend will feel bad since he is enjoying the lunch without heršŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚) at this aesthetically beautiful cafe nestled deep inside Ballygunge Place yesterday.. In frame: #COOLRITA & #PINKPANTHER (delicious mocktails).. #BLT & #BHETKI burgers were pretty good.. #CHICKENALAKIEV & #SHEPHERDPIE as main course dishes were both yummy.. #CARAMELCUSTARD was pure ā¤ļø - one of the best I have had till date in Kolkata.. Journey of an Epicurean Cine Trotter (BLOG/FACEBOOK) continues.. My journey can also be tracked on INSTAGRAM via @epicureancinetrotter By the way, have you joined Kolkata Food Trotters on FACEBOOK yet??

Foods are delicious but they deliver food very late...no much crowd and quantity wise bit less comparison to price.

This is a bit tricky to locate. The decor inside it pretty quirky and fun. The food too wouldn't disappoint you.

Nice restaurant...gud authentic food...cozy ambiance...menu is bit short...interesting interior...
Debjani Datta
Nice place. Combination of warm n bright colours. Serves freshly cooked food, so waiting time is a bit longer.

A very good continental restaurant at Ballygunge place. They have a very nice contemporary decor and ambience. The food, taste wise is absolutely awesome, freshly made with quality stuff. The portioning is very decent. The service level though leaves much to be desired. Majorly understaffed, one single fellow was handling everything. So for our family of 3, we got 3 dishes one after the another at an interval of 10-15 mins and all of us ended up eating separately. Can't blame the person in charge as he was the only one around. Other than that highly recommended from my end.

Nice little place in a posh surroundings with appropriate ambience and affordable pricing. The decor and the furnishing was very visionary. The staff is friendly and polite. Relevantly same menu as most of the Italian restaurants have, however itā€™s okay for me. Food tasted pretty amazing and the presentation of food was okay. The staff was really trying to put out the best they can. Bit slow service however itā€™s okay if you want to have laid back nice quite evening. Good luck Mad Hatterā€™s. Keep going.

Food quality is very good. Food cost to quantity is high and delivery process is very slow. We waited almost an hour to get the foods delivered even though no other foodie was present there.

Went to try durga puja special menu, I must say food was really delicious and interior is quite different from normal restaurants /cafe. Here my experience was really amazing and I'm looking forward to visit again soon.

Mad Hatter's is a beautiful cafe located in the lanes of Ballygunge. The cafe shares space with Firangi Desi and the salon! The owners are beautiful people who take you through the menu, and never let you feel like a first timer. The interplay of colours and taste is impressive! Their summer menu is highly recommended. Definitely order their fish soup and curry soup; their minced steak burger; mocktails, and salads! The food is freshly prepared and very light. My favorite place starting yesterday ļæ½

Chiku, you are doing so good with the quaint place in the middle of the city, yet far from the madding crowd ... will keep on visiting ... excellent food ... excellent ambience ...

The food was served hot and tasted delicious but takes a little time to serve.<br/>You can bring your pet here as well šŸ¶<br/>So, pet lovers this place is for you.

Went there on a Saturday evening.. Service was very slow!<br/><br/>Located at Ballygunge, food taste was heavenly and was served hot !! But staff behaviour needs to improve slightly I think..<br/><br/>Overall, nice experience and recommended!
Tirubanti Chakraborty
Went there for an evening outing.. food was excellent but their service was very slow.<br/>Also we had Zomato gold but they were initially very much hesitant to provide the benefits and also later after they agreed to do that, they served the food very late, which is the only negative point I found about this restaurant!<br/>Food tasted delicious and was served hot and fresh so full points for that!<br/>As a whole a wonderful experience and a must visit!

Good ambience. Food could have been better . Drinks were good. Good menu. Quantity was less compared to the prices. Good for outing with friends.

Mad hatters is definitely one of the underrated cafeā€™s in the city.. itā€™s only drawback being location.. itā€™s tough to find as itā€™s in a lane in bondel road off Ballygunge Phari.. <br/>the food however is very very good.. however o preferred the old menu to the current one..
Umang Saraf
Small cute cafe with pocket friendly snacks. Do visit it once.<br/>Ordered cheese balls and american corn sandwich, the filling of the sandwich was awesome and the cheese balls were also excellent. Do try them once
Varsha Manot
Nice n cozy place with a very comfortable ambience. The menu is limited which is bonus since u dont really get confused while ordering food. They have recycled the bulbs n baskets to grow the plants. The food is nice.
Anushka Bhowmik
Overall, the food was good but could be better. The ambience is what makes this place worth visiting!<br/>We ordered the Aglio E Olio chicken pasta and the Grilled Chicken in pepper sauce with mashed potato and veggies.<br/>Aglio Olio Chicken pasta- was not as good as it should've been. With no taste of garlic or olive oil in it. The only saviour was the chicken that gave the dish a little spice.<br/>Grilled Chicken in Pepper sauce with Mashed Potato and Veggies- was better than the pasta buy still only average at best.<br/>

An entrance with potted plants. Intricately designed staircases. A big light stand at the entrance. Wrought iron lamp brocades. Fairy lights. Wooden tables and chairs. Box pleated curtains. Framed posters. A whole wall bearing a mural of Madhatters from different popular cultures. If I had to describe the place in a word instead of all these fragments of images, I would say BEAUTIFUL is the word. Nowadays, in the jungle of cafes and restaurants in our City of Joy, its easy to get bored with the same stuff(food) in almost every other cafe. There are a few cafe with unique menus no doubt, but that is numbered. So what might draw one's attention is the decor and the facade of a cafe. As did this one located in a bylane of Ballygunge. A posh neighborhood, with beautiful houses around, a known neighborhood since its the same place I used to visit everyday for school, yes, the famed South Point High School is just a lane after. Nonetheless the pocket pinch was on the lower side to our relief.<br/><br/>Two of us had gone to this place on a sultry summer evening after an exam, hungry, and found this place completely empty with not even a staff around! We sat there and caught our breath and calmed ourselves down in the AC. But still no one showed up! We waited further, even ate a packet of biscuits that we had with us. The waiter came after a while and poured us two glasses of water. Thank goodness! We wasted no further time and ordered right away after a bit of consultation of the popular Zomato reviews. I went for a Chicken Ala Kiev, a Russian all time favourite. She went for a Veg Lasagna. Again, began another round of endless wait. We sat there in silence with songs playing on VH1 in the LED TV in low volume. A perfect setting for a laid back evening date. And so were we, looking out on the streets and judging people. I was particularly interested in a man trying to figure out what he was doing in the apartment in the opposite building. His well-decorated home drew my attention in the first place. Our endless wait ultimately ended after half n hour with the same man who took the order coming up to our table with the dishes. We waited no longer and delved into the food making cutlery clinking against each other. I found the Ala Kiev was a bit too fried but tasted good nonetheless. The veggies were fresh and tasted juicy. The Lasagna was also good though I found that it could have been more cheesier. But that's because of my soft corner for all things cheese. I don't have any complaint regarding the food and its quantity or pricing. But service, by now you all must have understood, I DO have a serious problem with. My partner also complained the man was reluctant on acting fast. I wish I had taken a few more pictures of the lovely decor. Because no doubt it was lovely indeed. Kudos to the owner or the person who envisioned it. Only the service is what needs to be improved. I'm sure the management will see to it. Cheers!

It's an cafe located in Ballygunge with good ambience. The starters are worth trying, specially Chicken Casalinga. Chicken Ala Keiv was also lip smacking, but Pastas aren't worth trying. Ultimately, the Orange twist shake is worth trying.

Really upset because we were so hungry and really looking forward to dinner. Saw Mad Hatters on zomato and saw that it closes at 10, so we left and rushed to the restaurant, only to be told it was shut for a private party. Surely, patrons should be informed in that case or zomato should forewarn clients when itā€™s shut on a particular day. Not acceptable! <br/>

Mad Hatters is an amazing cafƩ. I went there once for checking it out, and I was amazed. Along with a great ambience, Mad Hatters serves amazing food and drinks. If you are in Kolkata this place is a must visit!

Ambiance is good with great interior. Quality of food is good but bit expensive. But they take lots of time to serve it. Interior is also good and liked the music.

Cute cozy place.... Ambience was so warm and welcoming . Hidden away in the backlanes of ballygunge this place is a cute hangout for having adda with friends<br/>Do visit!<br/>

One of those overpriced - overhyped places like 033, KLocal, Artsy etc. The fish in lemon butter sauce is utter absurdly priced at 450. The pasta is also overpriced compared to the quantity. The pricetag of veg stroganoff with rice was good wrt quality and quantity. The tea - 110! Seriously? We get better quality tea at 60-80 at other popular cafƩs. Here just a cup of hot water and a teabag with artificial flavored tea is charged @ 110+. Whereas we get better tea with actual tea and lime cordial or actual honey or actual ginger at quite a lower price. I'm never coming back nor am I recommending this place unless the pricetags are lowered and quantity and quality both are improved.

This is a cute and tiny cafe in Ballygunge. Very budget friendly and pretty good food. Also, they offer zomato gold so GOLD members can have the most of this place. Nice ambience and decent service.<br/><br/>I have tried their :-<br/>šŸ”¹Chicken Stroganoff with Herb Rice- Totally loved it and Highly recommend it<br/>šŸ”¹Cheese stuffed Mushroom Balls- Super cheesy and super crunchy<br/>šŸ”¹Sandwich served with French Fries- Sandwich was superb but french fries were a bit too burnt<br/>šŸ”¹Chicken Cutlet- This one was an average dish, expected more out of it.<br/><br/>Highly recommend this place if you looking to spend some quality time with your people over a snack and are on a budget!<br/><br/>šŸ“Just one suggestion to Mad Hatter's: Some music to improve the liveliness of the place would be highly appreciated. šŸŽµ<br/><br/>šŸ’”Tip: Follow me on instagram @thequirkymartini for a cool collection of Kolkata's eateries and pubs, honest reviews and latest updates every day! šŸ˜„

Nice pleasant place with good quality food. Great ambience with aesthetic decors, soothing music, polite staffs, good service and commendable variety in menu

Located inside the bylanes of Gariahat, Mad Hatter's is a well decorated and tidy place for a joint. The staff weren't forthcoming and the food was average at best. Not coming back for a second visit. We ordered the BLT Sandwich and the Chicken Grilled Sandwich.
Abadur
The staff was courteous and the food was really good. Ambience is good and food is fresh, we tried grilled chicken, Caesar salad, chilli cheese toast and grilled sandwich. Overall for the price you pay this is really a great place.<br/>

Well rating with 5* because it deserves that. A newly opened restaurant with a beautiful ambiance, lighting, interior and exceptionally great tasty food platters and snacks with mocktails. Budget wise its good. If u are kind of a person who loves to spend quality time with friends, family over food then this is the perfect place. U can spend hours over here without feeling bored and u will literally enjoy their services. Good place of couples too. U will privacy because they have corner sitting arrangements delights. Without wasting time just go, eat, repeat and enjoy.

Full marks on the decor and staff courtesy. Menu is quite decent, with a variety of offerings in continental cuisine. The grilled chicken can be made a little more succulent. Will recommend it to others. Thanks MH's.

While the raste was top notch, the quantity was too less. It was clearly overpriced for a dish with such dismal quantity of food. But tastewise, there isn't a place to complain. I had ordered Grilled Prawns with Herb Rice and Grilled Fish with sauteed vegetables. They were kind enough to replace the mashed potatoes with rice. But one suggestion I would like to give is they should really do something about the quantity because there are places who serve more at such a price in the city.
Arpita Agarwal
Really liked the mushroom sandwich. Staff is polite and they serve really quickly. Placed little inside but maps got us at the exact spot. Good cosy experience overall<br/>

Disappointed with my visit to this place....maybe the day was wrong as they were having a flea market just prior to the Durga puja festival. The cafe was most probably shifted to a small room and the kitchen might have been understaffed. The service was just too slow, they took an inordinately long time to deliver the different courses. But the food was good and wholesome giving us the feeling if Homestlye food. The Risotto as well as lasagna was good.
Tanmoy
Located a bit inside this place has a perfect cafe decor..<br/>Its small but cozy..<br/>Its quantity is less but quality is good.<br/>Mad hatters is a good cafe..<br/>Tried chicken steak and seafood soup..<br/>Seafood soup was pure and smelled excuisite..<br/>Steak was nicely n<br/>Made,too.<br/>Both were good but quantity was an issue..<br/>Zomato gold membership der.<br/>So, give it a try.

The name of the cafe attracted us to visit the place along with our beloved pet. They declare themselves as a pet friendly cafe, whereas the fact is they are not even friendly to humans. Keeping a tag of Pet Friendly does not justify your love towards pets and their explanation was that they allow small breeds. So my question is...what would you do if your kids get obsess. Won't you take him/her along.<br/>If you have such a narrow minded specifications, kindly remove Pet Friendly tag asap, which is misleading us.
Nabamita Batabyal
Who said good Italian is hard to find? Our Stroganoff and Pink Panther were prefect here. It's an old house turned Cafe in the posh area of Ballygunge place. The decoration has been done with probably someone's personal collection of different kinds of hats. I liked the high chairs, the wall painting, the hat lampshades there. Fried Ice Cream was unavailable. Sad!

This is in true sense of term, a hidden gem. It may be a little bit difficult locating the place. A little stroll down Bondel Road led us to our destination.<br/><br/>The interiors were pleasing to eye. One will see a bright, eye catching wall art and small other bits of decorations all inspired by Mad Hatter of Alice in Wonderland. The place looks small but is spacious.<br/><br/>We had ordered:<br/>1. Chicken stroganoff with herbed rice: chicken was soft, the dish was creamy and flavourful. The rice was perfect with it. It was amazing<br/>2. Roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies: the chicken was properly cooked on inside. It was brilliant.<br/>3. Caramel custard: the dessert was amazing, it didn't taste overtly sweet and the texture was on point.<br/><br/>The service was good. They had informed beforehand what dishes took time. We had gone at such a time that they weren't busy in serving others so we could enjoy our visit properly. They were prompt and answered our queries. Would love to visit the place again!

I ordered a plate of Crispy Chilli Babycorn. The crispness was lost but the dish was flavorful. I'm sure it would have tasted a lot better if I had it at the outlet itself. Other than this, I have no complaint about the quality of food. Quantity was sufficient too.
Prince Walia
To start with its an excellent place with a beautiful interior. Looking at the reviews I was kinda shock to see the place being empty but anyways we were thrilled with the ambience! Staff was courteous enough to switch on the AC for just us two in the whole restaurant! Location seemed a bit far and hard to find but then again such gems should not be easy to look for! The food tasted really well and all the flavour kept me interested from the start till the end!! Definitely a treat!

This is a hidden gem situated 5 minutes from 6 Ballygunge Place and pretty difficult to locate(it is in the 2nd floor of a building whose 1st floor is a salon btw). Went there on an afternoon with 3 zomato gold members and found it almost empty. Would have given it 3.5 had half ratings been available.<br/><br/>Food(4.5/5): We ordered Chicken casalinga and 2 plates of Chicken wanton for starters. The casalina were basically chicken tossed in mustard sauce and tasted okayish. The wantons were decent & crispy but the chicken stuffing was slightly limited. For main course,we ordered 2 Chicken stronganoffs, 1 white pasta and one Chicken A La Kiev. Stronganoff was excellent..both the taste of the Chicken gravy and buttered rice were yum. A la kiev had mashed potatoes and veggies..and tasted pretty good overall. The white pasta too had decent cheese and chicken pieces so pretty decent too. Overall, above average continents and chinese food.<br/><br/>Ambience (4/5): Nothing too catchy about the ambience. Nice little place..which can seat about 30 people, the theme was meant to be about Mad Hatter's character from Alice in wonderland but didn't get much references. Overall, cosy and a view of the street is available. Nice decor and a good place to lunch with friends.<br/><br/>Service (2.5/5): Service was a bit of a letdown though. They took ages to serve both the starters and the main course. Must have been 20 minutes before the starter was served and 35 minutes before main course was served. Also, they lacked staff and served water only when someone was around to attend our calls. The manager was courteous though and asked us if we were enjoying the food or not but overall, needed to be more efficient in service,I felt.<br/><br/>Value for money (4/5): This place doesn't burn a hole in your pocket, infact bill barely crosses 200 if you have 3 gold members and ordered 7 dishes for 4( more than enough quantity wise). The casalinga was around 150 and the wanton was 90..both were okayish with respect to the quality although the quantity of the stuffing in the wanton was a bit dissapointing even for that price. The Stroganoff at 350 was perfectly okay quality wise and quantity wise, felt the rice was a slightly less in quantity. The A La Kiev with mashed potatoes and veggies at 240 was very good value for money both quantity and quality wise,I felt. The white pasta at 275 was okayish Value for money both quality and quantity wise. Overall, this place gives decent value for money for starters and excellent value for money for the continental main courses.<br/><br/>Might visit this place again to try more of their continental dishes and use the gold advantage again. Would hope for a better service next time though :)

I loved this place, it's very calm and has got great food.<br/>It was rather empty when we visited, no idea why, the place is super welcoming with great food(portion size and taste both) and nice staff as well.

Good food at a reasonable price ................. Ambience is nice and calm ............. Staffs' behaviour and service was Good (Specially Pijush) ........... Nice place to chill with friends
Chirag Bajaj
Mad Hatter's does not really remind me of Alice in Wonderland, but the decor was nice and cozy regardless. All that was missing was a little soft music. Food wise, we had ordered veg fried wantons and chilly baby corn. They were both good, and no complaints tastewise but the stuffing in the wantons was quite less. Ultimately given the costing and food quality, this place is worth a visit.
Ritam Ganguly
This place is indeed one of the hidden gems of the city. We had to search really hard in order to find it. The food is really tasty here. The Bacon wrapped prawns were a real delight. The Alfredo pasta was ok. The Chicken Stroganoff and the Shepherd's pie deserve special mention.

Let me make it simple for u .... 1st come to ballygunje phari then locate the birla memorial school few steps forward u will find 6 ballygunge place from there take a left u will find a dead end from there take left u can find the place at ur right....<br/>Food- Ordered caramel custurd and mango delight...<br/>Both the item were just awsm... Cant think of a much better dessert than these... A must try for everyone ...<br/>Ambience- Wonderful interior ... Capacity of about 25 peoples... Good place to hang around...<br/>Staff- Well behaved and very helpful..<br/>Highly recommended....<br/>

A little tricky to locate. However Loved the interiors.<br/>Ordered 4 dishes here. 1 chicken roast, 1 grilled chicken and 2 fish in lemon butter sauce. They took an eternity to serve. Just didn't understand why it took them half an hour to prepare one fish in lemon butter dish and then again another 15 minutes to make another.<br/>Anyway, moving on with the quality & the quantity test. No issues with the quality of the dishes. Loved the mashed potatoes and the individual gravies served with each dishes. But found the quantities to be inequal in all of them. The fish in lemon butter sauce priced more yet had lesser amount of mashed potatoes along with two tiny slices of grilled bhetki fish fillets. Quite disappointing.<br/>The other two dishes were fine though.<br/>

A beautifully decorated cafe based on the character of Hatter from Alice in Wonderland; the quirky interior is sure to impress everyone with hats everywhere. Located in Ballygunge, the cafe is on the second floor of a building. This place is good to visit with a group of friend or even for a coffee date.<br/><br/>Mad Hatterā€™s is also available in Zomato Gold, so the visit becomes cheaper. I visited this place with four of my friends on a Saturday afternoon, the place was not too crowded. The seating area is nicely done matching the interiors perfectly.
Kirti Mahamia
Absolutely love the food here!<br/>This cafe has a beautiful setting based on the Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, a favourite character from my childhood. The food here is very versatile and I loved. The crispy wantons I had were bursting with flavours while the grilled bhetki was very comforting. <br/>The mutton cutlet is the best I have had, and I am not even a red meat fan! The caramel custard at the end of the meal was another hit! This place is a must visit for great food!
Dr. Kalpita
The grilled chicken was utmost great. SautƩed veggies was also upto the mark. It's an apartment turned restaurant. Great coziness is best part of the ambience. Special mention of the chicken cutlet. We ordered 2 plates . It's just mouth-wateringly best. Ohh of course the caramel custard. Another masterpiece.

This place is quite a cute one and is located in Ballygunj place , the lane in which 6 Ballygunj Place is located..so you walk up that lane and take a sharp left and Voila! I liked the way they have done the interiors..its a warm cozy place for some chitter chatter over good food.<br/>We were 4 and quite hungry so we ordered:<br/><br/>1. 2 portions of the Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce which came with mashed potato and some veggies. The size of the fish however was extremely small, thus not justifying the price of a whopping 425Rs. Upon mentioning this the server said they serve the Calcutta Bhekti, hence the size..which still didn't convince us. The taste however was good, although the fish was a tad bit oily but that lemon butter sauce was a winner all the way.<br/>2. Grilled Chicken in Pepper Sauce: This was quite good and i loved that pepper sauce.<br/>3. Roast Chicken in Brown Sauce: Yum yum yummy in the tummy, this one. Portion size was good and so was the taste.<br/>There were two Zomato Gold memberships on the table, so we paid for just those two Grilled Fish which came up to just 870 Rs. This place is a good option if you have Zomato Gold as the price for few things might hurt your pocket otherwise.

This place is pretty average. Decided to visit the place my partner being a Zomato gold holder. Nothing great about the ambience but the minimal decor fascinated me. The staffs were polite and helpful but were not really attentive. They were busy among themselves. The service was fast we being the only customers at that time.<br/><br/>Coming to the food, we ordered for<br/>ā˜‘ļøRoasted Chicken with mashed Potato and grilled Veggies (as recommended by one of their staffs.)<br/>ā˜‘ļøChicken Risotto (with Pesto as our choice of S<br/>sauce.)<br/><br/>The Risotto tasted okayish but the other one was below average, even when it was a recommended dish. A huge let down so yeah not coming back. Would probably never recommend anyone either.

My husband and I went to Mad Hatter's yesterday evening for dinner. We have been to this place a couple of times before and had also arranged a small party for our friends and family during the Christmas season. I absolutely love the food here.Ā <br/><br/>I am new to zomato and my multiple wonderful experiences at Mad Hatters prompted me to write my first review to spread the good word about this cafe.<br/><br/>Yesterday we had <br/>1. Cream of Mushroom Soup<br/><br/>2. Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce<br/><br/>3.Mutton Cutlets (Bengali Style)<br/><br/>1. Cream of Mushroom Soup - Creamiest and most mushroomy soup, I have had ever. It is one of my staple favourites here and it never disappoints. I also like the shape of their serving pot.<br/><br/>2. Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce - 2 fillets of freshest Bhetki served with Potato Mash and sauteed veggies. The quality of fish served was awesome. The fish fillets very tender and juicy and did not become dry from overcooking. The potato mash was yummy. The veggies were crunchy and fresh. We were licking our fingers with the lemon butter sauce<br/><br/>3. Mutton Cutlets - 2 big cutlets served with Mustard Sauce and Lettuce Salad with olives and Cherry Tomatoes. The Cutlets were crispy on the outside and soft and juicy inside. One can actually feel the mutton chunks when one had it. Not too spicy. The Salad was refreshing and helped to balance the rich flavours of the cutlets. One of the best Mutton cutlets I have had, much better than the ones served by big names in the Bengali Restaurant Business<br/><br/>Pros - Quality of Food served is just awesome. They cook everything fresh and although it takes a little time to serve, but the results are very good. None of their dishes have ever disappointed me ever, in terms of quality.<br/><br/>It is a quaint little cafe and I like it that way. There is no over the top music and on your face commercialness about the place. If you want to spend a quiet little evening , as a couple, just talking to each other and having great food, then this is a go to place.<br/><br/>The service is also very good with the servers well mannered.<br/><br/>Cons - It might be a little difficult to locate. It is located on the first floor of a building in a narrow lane, a couple of hundred meters behind 6 Ballygunge Place in Ballygunge Place.<br/><br/>Would definitely recommend others to visit.

The cafe is located in a quite lane behind 6 ballygunge place on the first floor of a house. The decor is simple though the staircase leading to the cafe has been given a feel.good makeover with full length wooden mirrors .As i entered ,i got to notice the abundance of coloured hats and quirky hand painted wall art -hence the name.<br/><br/>Cominh to the food ,we ordered the<br/><br/>ā˜˜ļøRoast chicken in brown sauce--The juicy succulent leg piece was roasted perfectly. The mashed potato on the side was equally delectable though i felt the veggies could been a bit more in amount<br/>ā˜˜ļøGrilled chicken in pepper sauce--The chicken grilled in pepper sauce deserved special mention for the texture and taste of the sauce. The light yet spicy sauce complemented well with the golden brown chicken piece. This also came with a serving of mash and veggies<br/>ā˜˜ļøGrilled fish in lemon butter sauce--The only thing good about this dish was the lemon butter sauce. The fish pieces were not even proper in size and they seemed too oily.On asking ,the server mentioned that it is their standard portion size. The mashed potato for the grilled fish was very less compared to the ones in chicken platters.<br/><br/>The server brought us an extra plate of mash which i felt was a good gesture for their inconsistency in portion.I do have a suggestion for increasing the portion size in fish.Even though they claim to serve bhekti and not basa ,still it is not a platter if it does not satisfy one head.Plus when it the most expensive dish on your menu ,you should be able to justify for it.<br/><br/>The server was very polite and humbly attented us all the time. The place is good to have a chat over lunch but remember to order carefully.<br/><br/>We had two zomato gold at our table so the bill was almost negligible

Overall experience is extremely promising. Food is not only yumm but also extremely fresh and healthy! Service is really good and atmosphere is very welcoming. Ambience is perfect with its lighting. Worth a try for sure!

This place was a sudden discovery while I was walking down the bylanes of ballygunge, with a friend...A cozy, calm place, decor done right. we ordered pan fried chicken momos and the non veg club sandwich. We thought to order some other dishes after we finis those. but trust me, after having both of these items, we were too full to order further. special mention to that club sandwich - filling, cheesy, a lot of good things stuffed inside. There is one boutique on the ground floor of this cafe.I had love to come back & try some other items on the menu.

It's the season of #mangoes and what better way to celebrate this fruit than enjoying a mangolicious dinner or lunch.. Got an opportunity to do so at this beautiful cafe where they are celebrating the mango season with thier special mango themed menu - #AamKatha..<br/><br/>This is just a two year old cafe cum eatery in the bylanes of Ballygunge place - aesthetically decorated and well spread out on the first floor of a building - it also has a studio which is given on rent for private events.. An inside coup: they have a beautiful rooftop and the cafe will be expanded to the terrace as well once we get rid of the rains.. There are multiple food choices available on the regular menu.. Now, let's focus on the mangolicious fare on offer..<br/><br/>#FreshMangoSmoothie: Fresh mangoes blended with vanilla icecream resulting in a thick shake - perfect start to a crazy meal..<br/><br/>#TropicalMangoSalad: Iceberg lettuce tossed with jalapenos, bell peppers, loads of mango chunks with a red wine vinegar dressing - this one is a healthy treat.. Grilled shrimp is available as a brilliant non veg option..<br/><br/>#TangyChicken: Stir fried chicken served with vegetables and a tangy mango sauce makes it a delectable offering - the herb rice complements the dish perfectly..<br/><br/>#OrangeMangoChicken: A lovely blend of orange & mango flavours makes this dish a special one - the grilled chicken tastes heavenly served with well sauteed veggies & mashed potatoes..<br/><br/>#SalsaBhetki: Grilled fish served with herb rice & mango salsa - a delight for fish lovers..<br/><br/>#MangoDelight: Let's put it this way - the best mango mousse I have ever had.. Period.. This one will linger on your tastebuds for a long time - extremely yummy & each bite leaves you hungry for the next one..<br/><br/>The mango season comes once every year and so does this delicious spread - don't miss out or else you might regret later..<br/><br/>Take a bow chef #ShonojitMondol for creating such an epic menu..<br/><br/>My humble two cents: #MUSTTRY..<br/><br/>Journey of an Epicurean Cine Trotter continues..<br/><br/>My journey can also be tracked on Instagram via @epicureancinetrotter<br/><br/>By the way, have you joined Kolkata Food Trotters on Facebook yet??<br/><br/>Luna Chatterjee (Madly_Food_Lover) Anusreea (The Bong Trippers) Swarnava Mukherjee Kinkinee Ghosh Pamela Nandi (Foodaholic) Sudarshana Ghosh Chiku Sudeshna

This restaurant is well within your comfort zone. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the menu will get you dizzy!<br/>They have a kitchen which keeps experimenting, for instance, we tried a mango salsa which was sweet, spicy, and tangy, and introduced as part of their "Mango Special Limited Menu"<br/>Located in the bylanes of Ballygunge, Google helps you out. The building houses this bistro, a boutique, and a salon! The bistro is artistically done - a cosy corner overlooks the street. nice wooden seating areas, clear glass windows, a beautiful place to enjoy the sunset. They also take private party orders.<br/>Every dish is different from the rest, their food quality and taste keeps you wanting more!

This place is located inside the bylanes of Ballygaunge. The place is very beautifully decorated. We had Mango Smoothie,Orange Cool Rite,Fresh Lime Soda,Meat Ball and Caramel Custard.Mango Smoothi and Caramel Custard are absolute delight. Both are recomended.Orange Cool Rite was not so good.Meat Balls were good.Overall I liked the place and will visit soon.

I am not too impressed. The macaroni in ailio sauce was too unimaginative and bland. Veg stroganoff, while retaining the aroma of the herb rice and vegetables in white sauce, was uncharismatic and no-frills. At their pricing, one always expects more.<br/>But, they cook up some very standard material.Hence the 3/5.

We found this one from hidden gems. Nice food and great decor. And the pocket pinch isn't much either. We had a great time at this place. We had chicken pasta, cheese stuffed mushrooms and chicken casalinga. The staff was quite courteous and service was prompt. We would really love to go back and try other items on the menu, not to mention the cheesecake.

A very cozy cafe. Excellent service and courteous staff. Love their sandwiches. Packed some food for home, had ordered their Continental platter and the Chinese platter, very nice portions and tasty too. Was just a little disappointed with their mango shake though. Keep up the good work

Quirky themed decor, singular food and generous hospitality Mad Hatter's meets all three of these requirements to be a great cafe. Although the location is a tad bit hard to locate, google map works just fine. Apart from the cozy sitting arrangement and warm ambiance the food is quiet the stunner. From the fish ball soup to the very appetizing chicken kasaling the food here gets better with every bite. My favorite pick off the menu is the Grilled bhekti and the extraordinary mutton cutlet, it is like no other cutlet i have tasted before. An absolute winner. Apart from the continental the chinese servings are pretty great.A dine out with your family or friends cannot really go wrong here.PS: Do not forger to finish your meal with the Caramel custard.

Had been craving a restaurant burger so decided to order from here. I had the chicken burger. It was just too good. There was a thick patty with well seasoned mashed chicken and had tomatoes , cucumbers and mayonnaise and a leaf of lettuce. Very hearty. It was served along with potato chips. I also had the cheese balls which were the kind I had been expecting and wanting to try since a long time. It was a mixture of dough and cheese and was coated with egg. Just the kind of cheese balls that I like. Loved the place. Highly recommended.

A cozy place suitable for couples and friends. It will be a bit difficult to locate for first timers but the map is accurate. Coming to the food, we ordered chicken cutlet and chicken Penne pasta in white sauce. I am very satisfied with the quality of food. The quantity was okay considering the price. This place is good for long chats and romantic dates.

Located in the lanes of Swinhoe Street, the cafe could be a little difficult to locate. It's a small, cosy place with beautiful decorations comprising of hats (referring to the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland) and portraits of Johnny Depp. The food quality and quantity is quite impressive. I came here twice. <br/>The non-veg platter was a special menu available only during September. We ordered pasta, Cool Rita, Cold Coffee and chicken burger. Every item was delicious. And they host small birthday parties or anniversaries. The staff is amicable and courteous. The promptness of the service can be improved. Nevertheless, love this place.

Not at all an easy place to locate, its almost in a dead end street with a single entry/exit road. But its a beautifully done up place.Probably because of the location not many people have come across it.Me and my friend were out for a walk in the bylanes of ballygunge when we stumbled across it.We went up for tea and caramel custard and it was mouth wateringly delicious.I would definitely want to visit this place again to try out the main courses.Prices are reasonable and the staff very homely.

Situated at ballygunge place, Mad Hatters provides you an excellent ambience to spend your stressfully day. The food quantity and taste is worth every penny you pay( it is pocket friendly ). We tried the ham egg club sandwich and chicken cheese spaghetti. Both are extremely good.

This is one-stop food shop - a hidden gem located @Ballygunj Place. The landmark is a bit tricky - take the lane beside 6, Ballygunj Place and when you hit straight to the end of the blind lane just take a look on your left, you can see the glowing Mad Hatter's cafe (recommended by one of my close foodie friends). Burger with chicken patty tasted good and so did d sandwich which came in huge quantity!<br/><br/>Then went to chicken cutlet -- absolutely mouthwaterin !! Golden brownish and crumbly, tasted so fresh šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹ & again quantity was good enough. Finally we had cappuccino and latte, both strong enough wid right amt of foam and steamed milk.<br/><br/>

Tucked away in Ballygunge, the place is hard to locate! The seating is fine but not for long as these are stylized wooden benches actually. Furniture is assorted with the hat theme dominating the decor. Food is very good. Friends met for an after-work adda and catching up. It was pretty satisfying. Finger food and hors d'oeuvre and tea, that's how we spent a great evening in the company of dear friends meeting after months. Cozy corner and good food, what more does one want on a rainy evening? The service is unobtrusive and efficient too.

Mad hatter's! Neat little joint tucked in the bylanes of Ballygunge. Further down the lane from 6 Ballygunge place. It's a nice restaurant with warm decor and good food. The service was nice and staff was very courteous.<br/><br/>We ordered the following :<br/><br/>Cream of mushroom soup - good<br/>Bacon and potato salad - average. My suggestion would be limit the sheer amount of mayo that they put in this. Way too much mayo masks the taste of the meat.<br/>Lamb chops-Great ! Fabulous succulent lamb chops served with Khus Khus and scrumptious fresh sauted veggies.<br/>Grilled Fish - Again a very tasty dish !<br/><br/>Overall a decent experience.

Last month on a rainy evening , we fixed our cousins meet up at madhatter's. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly , helped us to choose our orders and clicking few pictures. The ambience is warm and cozy with seatings available in high tables as well as normal ones. Right from the gardened entrance to the flight of stairs with fabric walls and huge mirrors , the interiors are quite impressive.<br/>One advice for the first timers , use Navigation to locate the cafe , as the lanes are extremely confusing.<br/><br/>The menu seemed very restricted with fewer choices , i ordered for a CHICKEN ROAST and CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD , both done well. Our other orders were PENNE IN PESTO SAUCE , tasted nice but the smell wasn't appreciated and a combo meal including MULLIGATWANY SOUP , CHICKEN CUTLET , CHICKEN LASAGNA and CARAMEL CUSTARD , Everything tasted good enough . The mocktail PINK PANTHER was average , STRAWBERRY SHAKE and COLD COFFEE was spot on , while my cup of CARDAMOM TEA was tad pricey.<br/><br/>Only con was the serving time. Tremendously slow , we waited almost 40-45 minutes for a single dish , the excuse given everything is cooked fresh !

Mad Hatter's is situated deep within the alleys of Ballygunge. It's on the first floor, the ground floor being Firaangi Desi (a boutique kind of thing). The entrance is beautifully decorated with trees & lamps. The interior & decor is quite & calm stating the cuteness of the space.<br/><br/>However, food served here is FRESH !! The plating & presentations are just perfect - a colorful plate always !!<br/><br/>Staffs always have smiling faces :) are friendly, courteous & keeps on taking feedback, which in turns equalizes towards a scope of betterment & suggestion. Menu have limited options.<br/><br/>The things we had tasted:<br/>Mocktails: Fresh Lime Soda, Pink Panther, Orange Lemonade<br/>Sandwich: Mushroom, onion & cheese, American corn & cheeseĀ <br/><br/>Reasonable pricing Ā P.S. Might be little difficult to locate. Please keep google map handy to find this place in the one of the lanes of the posh Ballygunge Place area.<br/><br/>It was a Saturday evening when we visited and the place was almost empty. I quiet liked the calm and decent interiors.<br/><br/>The mocktails are really good. Refreshing and perfectly made. Food tastes slightly better than average, not great. However, the ingredients are fresh and they will never serve you pre-cooked stuff. That is one of the reasons why the serving time is about 35 minutes for 1 single dish.<br/><br/>Menu options are limited.<br/><br/>Staff is extremely courteous. Nothing to complain about.<br/><br/>Price is reasonable.<br/><br/>

The food in Mad Hatterā€™s has one ethos- the freshest ingredients, simply but expertly concocted, always make food that is classic in its elegance. It's the best kept secret in Kolkata for a summer eat out with amazing soups and salads!<br/>The salads I tried were the ā€˜Moroccan shrimp saladā€™, ā€˜Kabuli saladā€™, ā€˜Summer greens saladā€™, ā€˜Mediterranean saladā€™ and the ā€˜Italian surpriseā€™.Ā <br/>The Italian Surprise was fantastic! Fresh, handpicked tomatoes stuffed with crumbly feta cheese with a sprinkling of parsley and a drizzle of olive oil- itā€™s a perfect example of the culinary feat that can be achieved when you blend the freshest of ingredients with an innovative presentation. The crunchy, tangy freshness of the tomatoes is nicely offset by the crumbly, salty feta and the combo of olive oil and parsley beautifully enhanced the flavour, making for a dish that promptly flew of the plate!<br/>The Summer Green was a light-as-air, fruity salad that was a treat for the eyes as well as palette. It offered a delightful, fresh crunch with lettuce, cucumber and apples mixed with sweet pomegranate and tart olives, all lightly bathed in a tangy French dressing that added just that right amount of ā€˜Ooh La La!ā€™ in this delicate summer salad.<br/>The Mediterranean salad offered the same note as the Summer Green, using cherry tomatoes, colourful bell peppers, lettuce and feta to create another lightweight, delicious summery concoction.<br/>I fell in love with the Moroccan shrimp salad at the first sight! It was a medley of colours, with brightly coloured bell peppers and fresh, lightly-steamed pink shrimps peeping out from a bed of couscous! The yummy taste and flavours popped in my mouth with every mouthful and was like instant food Nirvana! A zest of lemon enhanced the nutty after-taste of the dish and left me craving for more.<br/>The Kabuli salad took me by surprise with its taste and presentation! Imagine an exquisitely-crafted ā€˜alu kabliā€™ of sorts, with ginger juliennes and shredded chicken to up itā€™s irresistibility quotient by a few notches and you can get an idea of the dish. Ā  Ā  Ā <br/>What really impressed me was the freshness of the ingredients, the fact that they were all so light in the stomach, and yet tasted fantastic and were very innovatively done.<br/>I tasted the soups next, and let me tell you at the outset that they were absolutely mind-blowing! The soups in Mad Hatterā€™s simply re-define the standard idea of soups that you get in any outlets in Kolkata serving Continental cuisine.<br/>First came the Curry Soup which had the unmistakable Anglo-Indian touch to it. It had a thickish, lentil-based broth, spiked with the flavourfulness of curry leaves and very innovatively studded with firm, fresh apples!Ā <br/>Next in line was the Italian Delight which floored me with itā€™s simple goodness! It was a light and clear soup with a handful of fresh veggies like carrot, zuccinni and bell peppers thrown in. It tasted so good that you will invariably come for a second helping, and it is just the kind of soup that will cause your Mom to shed happy tears due to your rapid devouring of the same.<br/>I loved, loved, loved the Simple Fish Soup that we tried next. It is exactly that- a simple fish soup with a light, clear broth delicately scented with coriander and lemon, with little chunks of white fish in it. It is incredibly toothsome!Ā <br/>The other soup that made my heart sing a song was the Mushroom Delight. It is a simple Cream of Mushroom soup, that tasted something like heaven! I have tasted various renderings of this soup all my life, and this is probably the best one that I have had. Yes, it is THAT good!

Located in the bylanes of Ballygunge, this place offers a nice cosy ambience, great food, good service at a very competitive pocket pinch.Apart from a wide array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian burgers, they have seasonal menus that are innovative and delectable. Their summer menu comprises of an enticing list of Coolers, Soups and Salads which are sure to please you in ways more than one! The fish soup, curry soup and the Moroccan shrimp salad are a must try. For people like me who are not great fans of soups and salads this place is the perfect answer. If not for the Cool Rita I am surely going back for that Fish soup! Bon Appetit šŸ˜Š

Soups and salads aren't things which I am usually very excited about. But my experience at Mad Hatter's completely changed that. The salads ranging from the simple Tomato Feta to the lovely Shrimp and Quinoa salad, we're exceptional.<br/><br/>Of their soups, I loved the Fish Soup the most, followed closely by the Curry Soup. But well, being mushroom loyalist that I am, I couldn't ignore the rich, creamy Mushroom Soup too.<br/><br/>The food here is light, fresh, and unpretentious.<br/>The wide variety of soups and salads that this place offers is perfect for the sultry summers. And if that's not enough, their lamb burger is pure joyšŸ˜! <br/><br/>

The owners are beautiful people who take you through the menu, and never let you feel like a first timer. The interplay of colours and taste is impressive! Their summer menu is highly recommended. Tucked inside Ballygunje's various lanes and by lanes, one would not so easily find or go to this place until he/she is really willing to be adventurous and try out something new, something different yet something similar. The entrance of Mad Hatter's is a rather tricky one to find but once inside there's the most homeliest feel one would get. There's the wonderful staff who'd greet you with a smile and try and be the most polite of people in Kolkata, which is a rather very nice feeling. The ambience of the place was great with the added decor and furniture. I'd ordered two burgers, pork and lamb which were served within a very adequate time. The chef himself had come to ask me about the food, which was very very generous of him to do so. Now leaving aside the other little details I directly jump to the food.<br/>Everything is freshly made and prepared starting from the patty for the burger to the dips themselves which was really appealing. The only place where it fell short was when it came to the quantity of the fillings in the burger. Just the meat patty and veggies dosent make a good burger. It was missing slices of bacons and ham which was important to make it a filling meal for which i had to add the aforesaid to the burger with extra charge. Most importantly Mad Hatter's burgers missed out on Cheese and burgers without cheese are not great burgers at all. The service and the behaviour of the staffs are commendable which is an obvious since it's a new place and it will be great if such a homely service is continued along with certain improvements in the 'quantity' of the ingredients used in the food served.

A gem of a place. Every dish we had was great. They have a wonderful collection of soup; we chose the potato and onion soup and loved it. Creamy, flavorsome and absolutely soothing. The mushroom and paneer croquettes were very well made, deep fried yet super light. The Persian burger was the healthiest burger option what with the patty being a khus-khus one. It was crumbly and delicious. I was glad they served it with onion rings. My companion enjoyed his chicken stroganoff. Portions are the perfect size. The place itself is quite small and cute. We were the only ones there that afternoon, hence, service was great. Kudos and well done to the team!

Mad Hatters in Ballygunge Place is a new outlet in a space I have visited earlier. The little boutique on the ground floor has interesting sarees and the first floor (where the cafe resides now) was where I have attended some lovely performances.<br/><br/>A dear friend invited us there for lunch in the Christmas week. The space is aesthetically done and you can see the owners good taste reflected in every corner including the little money plants in light bulbs placed on each table.<br/><br/>The food had been pre ordered, which ensured we could focus on conversation. We ate:<br/><br/>Cream of mushroom soup: Absolutely delightful! It is my favouritest soup; I am very picky about it and make a mean one myself, but have to say this was very impressive.<br/><br/>Roast chicken: Looked just right. The dark golden brown chicken pieces were just waiting to be devoured. It could have done with a bit more of the roast gravy but otherwise all good.<br/><br/>Shepherds pie: My childhood favourite did not disappoint. The mince was flavoured just right and potatoes done perfectly.<br/><br/>Accompaniments: Salad, sautƩed vegetables and mashed potatoes....all pretty good.<br/><br/>Caramel custard: This did not quite live up to the rest of the meal. The sugar was not caramelised enough and the custard denser than what is ideal.<br/><br/>Given this is a very new enterprise I was pretty happy with the quality of food. The menu looked very interesting and the staff were very courteous. I went back the next day for coffee with some friends and we had a lovely time. Definitely a place worth revisiting.

This review might be a bit biased since it's owned by my family but I really enjoyed my dining experience. We ordered the pesto pasta with prawns which was creamy and isn't cooked al dente, which I prefer but could use more prawns. I also tried the chicken salad sandwich and chicken roast with mashed potatoes for take out. I usually never eat the skin on chicken legs but it was so tasty I finished all of it. To finish with I tried the brownie it was so soft and gooey it was the perfect dessert to end the meal. Looking forward to going back

Mad Hatter's is situated in a bye lane of Ballygunge Place. An old Bungalow which has turned into a Restaurant on the First Floor. Awesome. Cute entrance and love the flight of stairs that you take to reach Mad Hatter's. A very Simple yet Elegant DĆ©cor. A unique Menu Card which is written on the wall using a black board I guess. Coming to the Food. I have a Mushroom Soup. Lovely presentation and Fantastic taste and texture. Had Order a pasta (Cheese) based for my kids and boy they had a gala time perfect Pasta. We Order for a salad which was delicious and tasty. In the main course we ordered A Veggy Stroganoff. Well presented and prepared but should limit the use of wine. I could feel and smell the wine. Yes would love to go back to try the Non Veggies.
