I spent most of my days in the southern part of India and since then I was and still a fan of South Indian food. This place took me back to Chennai and Kerala. Awesome in taste, authentic.
To start just have rasam , curd and papad ( it’s heavenly) I actually spoke to the chef Vishnu and took the recipe for Rasam. Everything they serve is tasty. Service time is very good and staff so polite. Great place
Stumbled upon a culinary gem in the heart of Kolkata! This authentic South Indian restaurant fills a void that was sorely missed. The taste and culinary mastery are exceptional, with dosas taking center stage. They strike the perfect balance of traditional South Indian flavors with a unique twist, making them a must-try. The ambiance further enhances the experience, transporting you to the soul of South India. If you're on the lookout for genuine South Indian cuisine, especially dosas with a distinctive flair, this place is a winner. Don't miss out—go for it and treat your taste buds to an unforgettable journey!
Ramanee , a South Indian restaurant in Kolkata with a wonderful ambience has a delicious thali which they serve during lunch time. The thali was so good and filling. They had both bread and rice! In bread one could choose to have puri or Paratha...we chose puri! Together with this there were two kinds of podi, rasam, sambaar, one dry vegetable preparation, one gravy type though to me that seemed semi dry! Curd was there also. There was cabbage with tempering. One sweet, which was a typical south Indian one, a laddu made of rice flour with a hint of camphor in it!(unique)! Appalam and chaas too were there to complete the meal! Oh! forgot to mention the potato jhuri bhaja( almost Bong style!!) 😀All in all a delicious spread....Loved it!💖
A good authentic South Indian cuisine restaurant was missing at the heart of Kolkata, loved the taste and the culinary mastery. This place should be visited for anybody looking for dosas with little of unique flare to the taste. Go for it!
A good place for some authentic South Indian. Went there for breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyable!
The experience on a sultry Saturday afternoon had been a mixed one. We were four adults and a toddler and had to wait for about ten minutes before getting a corner table. Deep was our table steward - a smiling, sober, and soft spoken gentleman. The starters were average including the hyped fried baby idli. However, the main courses were magical; we simply loved the Pesarettu Adai and the accompanying chutney. The Cheese Dosa and Rava Masala Dosa were very good. We were so full that at the end we couldn't move beyond the classical Kapi. The teamwork of the joint is the clue for it's present status. Recommended.
Loved the overall ambience, preparations and cuisine. Would suggest to add a few more items in the menu, especially the desert section and other South Indian specialities like Kerala paratha and chettinad dishes
Best quality southindian food in reasonable price. Nicely located, courteous services and best food....do you need anything more!
Spacious, spic - n - span, warm and welcoming restaurant with tasty south Indian fare. The taste is a mellowed version of authentic south Indian, perhaps keeping in mind the non- spicy ,non- south Indian eaters. The specially curated platters attract a lot of Bengali customers.
Portion sizes however are peckable and there are no generous repeats of rice or condiments. Other south Indian restaurants give complimentary second helpings of sambar and chutney atleast. Service was a bit slow, but that was because the place was full to capacity,a sign of its immense popularity in that area.
While most restaurants boast of a clean frontier, their interiors are not so hygiene - conscious. Not so with Ramanee! Even its toilet was wonderfully clean. Kitchen section was also above- standard hygienic, which is a huge plus point.
It's literally a hidden gem. The taste and quality of the food was amazing and pretty budget friendly too. The best south Indian food i have ever tried.
And the atmosphere is very sophisticated and cozy. I did not expect that good ambience from the entrance.
We tried:
Masala Dosa ( ₹195 )
Sambar Vada (₹145)
Total Bill was 350+
