Situated in a very quaint alley this is a must visit place for fish lovers. Since its open from 10am-3pm make sure to drop in early on weekends. Best bet to go on a weekday to avoid all the traffic and hustle and bustle of Lonavla.
We ordered the Pomfret fry which was delish 🎯💯. The fish was fresh and well marinated and fried served piping hot. Also had Prawns curry 🦐 + steam rice. Fingerlicckin good...the chapatis too were just off the tawa. It's a must visit place and if you fall for it (I bet if anyone won't) the drive all the way from Pune..just worth it.... Can't wait to go back again..

This place is a little difficult to locate as there are many homely foods in Lonavala.

Ambience- I’m a sucker for places which give you homely feels rather than the flashy places.
This place is small, and has some trees and a swing at the entrace. I loved the background tbh because I love such places.

Now coming to the food,
Prawns Masala- Probably one of the most amazing things I’ve tasted in my entire life. This is a must try even for the ones who don’t enjoy sea food. Order some rice or chapati to go along with this and you’ll have the taste lingering in your mouth for days.

Pomphret Fry- A good dish with fresh fish and plenty of masala.

Service- Service is pretty quick as we went early it wasn’t crowded.

Staff- Tbh, I found the staff rude because they have plenty of customers and care only for the people in big groups. Also, after our lunch when we stopped to sit on the swing for sometime we got pretty harsh looks from the people working there.

Very good food. On our two day getaway to Lonavala, Homely Food at Joshi Sanatorium was highly recommended to us. When we reached there, we were a bit taken aback by the very, very humble exterior, and even called my sister in law to confirm that this was, in actuality, the place. She urged us to walk in, and assured us that we would love the simple, home-cooked, delicious maharashtrian food. And I'm so glad that we didn't let the look of the place put us off, because the food is delicious. Don't expect fancy fittings, and comfortable tapestried seating, don't expect air conditioning, don't expect uniformed servers. But judging by the number of people who came in their fancy cars in the short time that we were there, Homely Food is certainly well known. And rightly so.

We had pomfret fry, kolambi masala (yummmmmmy gravy and very good sized prawns), brinjal subji (so good!), dal fry, plain rice, roti, and sol kadhi. We had ordered half plates of everything, and when we saw the ample quantity we asked again to verify that this really was a half plate portion of everything. Freshly cooked in the open kitchen, the food is simple and delicious, something that one would have very happily at the home of a maharashtrian friend whose 'aai' excels in the kitchen. We had checked into one of the high end resorts in Lonavala, and, believe me, this meal was wayyyy better than any meal that we had at the resort. And certainly didn't burn any hole in the pocket either!

Foodie weekend getaway to Homely Food-Lonavla (fyi - please follow the Zomato linked google map - there are many mummy's kitchen places, you are bound to confuse this place).
Homely food does justice to the name
First impression of this place when we went to write down our names for reservation , were some ladies in the kitchen cooking food.
All ladies kitchen, well managed , very clean and hygienic.
The food is simple, tasty and yummy.(the masala taste reminds me of konkan side masala)
We tried :-
Chicken Masala ( gravy was brilliant)
Chicken Sukka
Pomfret fry ( my favourite, very tasty masala, fresh fish)
Chapati and rice

The only thing that bothered us was the waiting time , 1 hour waiting and we were not getting any updates regarding when we would get the table.( we were very very very hungry)

A very calm place with people visiting it very often. And most of the guests are returning guests that means the quality and value for money is of prime importance. The food is tasty and not that expensive. We liked it overall

Suniel Shetty dines here and I kid you not BCUZ I got to meet him and his wife for he had come for lunch.
I knew that Sachin Tendulkar and Suniel Shetty often come here and dine but didn't know that it's a real thing.
I've been here twice and the taste was same both the times.
For starters we ordered :

Chicken Masala Dry: 4/5
The dry chicken is amazing in taste. It gives that flavour in mouth that your taste buds couldn't forget. Do try this.

Pomfret Fry: 4.5/5
Big Pomfret fried with masalas gives it a blast of flavours. The fish is always fresh and is made really crispy. This time they had burnt it slightly on the other side, so when I flipped the fish it was having blackish burnt particles stuck onto.

Main course : Prawns Gravy - 4.5/5
The prawns Curry was so good that even my tummy was full, I had it with rice and even chapati. Loved it and it's a must try. It's coconut based so if you don't like coconut in your food then you shouldn't order.
Chapatis they serve are thin and soft. Rice were steamed and cooked nicely.
Only thing is that their vegetarian food is horrible. Don't eat veg here at all. Rest is good and you'll always find a waiting for 15-20 mins minimum.
Must visit when in Lonavla.

P. S. - there are two homely food joints in Lonavala and this one is near Joshi Sanatorium. It's inside the lane beside Hari International not on the one on the Highway.

As the name suggests it is very homely like setup, no fancy decor no air conditioner no crockery rather wooden benches wide & comfortable, steel glasses & plates, sufficient quantities for a family of 2+1, lots of tastes & aromas of authentic spices, their kitchen area is huge & hygienic, (1) don't forget to do the entry in their waiting register as they believe in first come first serve also (2) do carry cash as they do not accept UPI or Card Payment. (3) you must try their Solkadi.(Soul-Kadi). Everything is authentic here, freshness of the fishes is guaranteed, no color/preservatives/soda etc. in any of their food.

After all the praise for homely food I landed here and waited for almost 40/45 mins. One needs to register the name at the counter then the table would be allotted. No thali's only à la carte ordering system. We ordered chicken curry, chicken sukha, rice, bhakri and chapati. Chicken curry and sukha was good. Bhakri was soft and hot whereas chapati was like machine made. Overall good food experience not too much masaledaar it's proper homely food to explore. Please carry cash as no online or card payment.

Ultimate lunch experience! It's not named 'Homely' just for namesake but certainly lives up to it! No overpowering flavours or spices and very light on the tummy, yet filling and satisfying! A must visit place but the food is only available till 3 pm so you need to be there well before it.

Lovely place to visit. You get thali which is absolutely amazing in taste. I have been here more than once and have had veg and non veg items as well, both are a go for, outstanding taste. The owner of the place is very friendly and has a motherly nature whenever she talks. She will also let you inside and house tell you about how she started this place and what all things she had to go through. She is lovely the food is lovely the staff is kind and helpful. This place is crowded all the time though as people from far come to taste the food off this place. I would highly recommend you people if you guys are giving a visit to Lonavala no matter the reason of visit, this place is worth it. Make sure you come as early as possible as it will take time get dining due to waiting period. Don't worry.. it's worth the wait in my opinion.

Visited Feb 2020. When I visit Lonavala I'm not in the city at lunch time (sightseeing :-). This time I was in the city at lunch time and could not miss the chance of visiting this well-known eatery. Did not disappoint. The food was good, tasty. The open kitchen is clean - you can go in (see attached pic). The staff is very polite. Luckily I was there on a weekday, so no crowds. And yes, the loncha (pickle) is very good too; made right there it seems. If the owner ever sells it by the bottle I will be a customer. The only thing I kind of disliked was charging Rs 25 for bottled water. BTW I had Chicken Masala (Rs 180), Chappati (Rs 12 each) and Taak (buttermilk) all were superb. Unless you dislike Maharashtrian food, there is no reason not to visit this place. See attached pics. Forgot to add : the chappatis were served in a round stainless steel box; where else have you seen that?

Food is excellent and freshly made. Chicken and fish are the yummiest. Mutton should have been more Spicer as it was on the mild side. Service was quick and seating is convenient. Will visit again

We love the food here. Truly homely food. The quantity is good enough and also pocket friendly. A little bit inside and away from the main road.
