Review Oh! Calcutta - Mumbai

Dr Krishnam Kumawat
Great little spot for enjoying the delicious Bengali Cuisine. It's heaven if you're non vegetarians. Limited vegetarian options, but the sweets are to die for. Calm and composed atmosphere... Just like how a Bengali restaurant should be. The Koraishutir Chop is a must try while the Baked Rosogolla is the best dessert I've had till date. Good discount options available on zomato gold too!

Great food but on the expensive side. Highly recommend begun , luchi, ilish, any curry. Note: aam sharbat is too overpriced, the quantity of desserts can be better. Food is almost perfect with high quality ingredients. But some quantity can be better. A few like desserts and drinks can be skipped if not overpriced or both.
Subrata Chaudhuri
A lovely restaurant maintaining the standard of the brand chain. Food is excellent and so is the plating & serving. We had the "Bhai-phota" special thali with fixed portions served on the table but still found it hard to complete.

Best food in Mumbai... Loved bengali food!!! Bhapa Ilish - steamed fish in mustard gravy - heavenly taste when paired with rice. Chingri Malai curry - prawns in coconut curry, very good quality prawns used. Mishti doi and Baked rasagulla are a must try !!! Gondoraj shorbat was only ok. Ambience and service is very good. It's expensive but totally worth the price!!!
Shramika Mhadeshwar
The best place to try Bengali food. I tried their gondhoraj lemon juice and it was so refreshing with rich fragrance. The kosha murg with Luchi and Laccha paratha was delicious 😋 The ambience here is great!!

Outstanding food. Come here probably once in a while but this time was fabulous during Pujo. Tried the Chicken cutlet, Fish fry....both quite nice along with Luchi , Begun Bhaja, Mochar chop & Bhetki paturi, all were mouth watering ones. The Kosha mangsho was not that great ..probably reeling from expectation we had, because of the other dishes. But the pièce de résistance was the Nolen Gurer ice-cream...a must have. Haven't had one in the past and it will blow your mind with its texture & taste ( not too sweet). Good service overall but yes be ready to shell out a bomb.... But it's money well spent. Highly recommended.

Oh! Calcutta is all about Bengali fanfare. It's very tastefully done, the decor, food, menu, music which takes you straight to streets of Kolkata. Loved all the dishes we ordered especially Kosha Mangsho and smoked Hilsa. Service was good and special mention to Ashok who made us very comfortable and suggested special dishes. Overall a very different but memorable experience. Worth a revisit and highly recommended.

My recent dining experience in Oh Calcutta, Tardeo was an absolute delight.! The ambience is simply fantastic. The modern decor and well thought-out seating arrangements created a welcoming energetic vibe. Let's talk of the star of the show... The food offers an extensive menu.... The quality of ingredients used was top notch. During my last visit we had pleasure of trying several dishes must say each one was a masterpiece. From mouthwatering appetizers to the delectable main courses.., my taste buds were in absolute ecstasy. The flavours are perfectly balanced and the portions were generous. What stood out to us was the impeccable service provided by the staff at Oh Calcutta, They were attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer recommendations based on personal preferences.

Service, food and ambience everything is just so perfect. We had ordered the maharaja thali, Luchi with mutton kosha was so so good! All the items were prepared so well, none were extra spicy or oily, infact we liked it more than the Kolkata outlet.

Have been ordering from this place for many years now. Have always relished appreciated the food except the last 2 occasions. The first one, the food spice level was clearly above palatable limits. Had ordered for prawns pulao, other than being overly spicy the quantity also was pretty disappointing. The grand trunck chicken was also an overload of red chill powder. This time on I ordered for chicken biryani. The minute I opened the container there was a stink of stale Biryani.. absolutely disappointed with the quality benchmarks dropping at every consecutive occasion from a restaurant that is benchmarked for the cuisine it boasts of.. time to take a break from my go to place!!!
Naushad Panjwani
Acquired a taste for Bong food thanks to Oh! Calcutta. Loved almost everything. The Kosha Mangsho is my favourite. But the meat in it could be a notch better and then it would be Nirvana!

In the jam packed lane of Tulsiwadi lies a gem of a restaurant - especially if you are Bengali who relishes his food! For me - being a true Mumbaikar, I was a bit skeptical to try out the freshwater fishes and mustard oil preparation of Bengali cuisine. But so impressed I was, after having a feast at Oh! Calcutta.<br/>To begin with, they have a well kept and professional Valet Parking - which is such a necessity - in the cramped Tardeo area. Once you enter the restaurant - the seating and interiors of the restaurant are a mix of traditional and modern, to make you feel at comfort. For menu card - they provide you a Tablet phone, where you can view how the dish looks like, before you order.<br/>Well, we feasted on a variety of dishes - each better than the other and it's difficult to call out a favourite.<br/>Nizami Murgh Malai Tikka - Delicious chicken malai tikka<br/>Gondhoraj Mach - Steamed fish in leaves<br/>Topsher Cutlet - Mango fish cutlet<br/>Kosha Mangsho - Sukka Mutton<br/>Daab Chingri - Prawns cooked in coconut milk and served artistically in a coconut<br/>Rui Kalia - Rui fish in traditional bay leaf and garam masala curry<br/>Hot puffy Luchi - Piping hot and puffy puri  <br/>Calcutta Chicken Biryani<br/>Mishti Doi - famous bengali sweet and creamy yoghurt<br/>Rosogulla - needs no description<br/>Gur Sondesh<br/>So all you Mumbaikars, if you want a taste of Bengal, you don't need to travel all the way to Kolkata. You have right here in Mumbai - Oh Calcutta!

We were searching for the great spot for supper with my companion. So concocted place which is in Tardeo and effectively available from the railroad station. The spot had 2 areas with bunches of nourishment choices and beverages. There is something for somebody so you won't get disillusion on the off chance that you visit here. <br/><br/>✔️Ambience:- . The spot is having dynamic vibes. They have portrait and cites hold tight the divider. Grass structure on 1 divider. At the point when you go on the first floor, there were cites hang with a representation of sadhu. It was looking extraordinary. The lower area has a fine feast understanding and upper segment had bar understanding. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>For Ambience 9.7/10 <br/><br/>✔️ Hospitality:- We had a warm greeting and guided to our seat. The other person accompanied menu and chilled water. We had that and proceed with the menu. The administration was additionally acceptable. There was an acceptable group at that point also administration was acceptable. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>For Hospitality 9.2/10 <br/><br/>✔️Food and Drinks:- We had two or three Mocktail, a couple of starters, pizza, a bowl of Chinese rice and a pastry. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Russian paan ki Shaan - Mocktail with a solid taste of paan and a fizz. It was superb. Must-Try. Suggested. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Tall Fruity Twist - Watermelon and Pineapple mixed drink splendidly mixed with one another. It was acceptable and bud ticklers. Prescribed. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Masala Cheese Toast - Indian adaptation of garlic bread. Bread toasted made fresh beat with masala and cheddar on it. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Cheddar Chili Khumb - Mushroom shrouded in cheddar and. tandoor. It was so acceptable I even lick the plate. It was great. Must-Try. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Quinoa Golgappe Shots - Golgappa with mainland turn. The shot was of tamarind chutney, green chutney and pudina pani. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Mexican Sweet Corn Pizza - Pizza with Mexican turn. Jalapeno, Mozzarella Cheese, Bell Pepper and Tomato Salsa. It was sweet and zesty and truly stimulated the bud on our tongue. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Futch Rice Noodles - It was less fiery. Blend of rice and noodles in the bowl bested with sauce on it. It was OK. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>Gadbad - Butter Scotch Icecream with a layer of caramel on top or more than Vanilla with dry foods grown from the ground Icecream on top. It was an immaculate treat. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>For Food and Drinka 9.3/10 <br/><br/>✔️Overall Experience - This spot had a decent Ambience which you truly like with great nourishment and heaps of drink choice. on the off chance that you are thinking to go, pull out all the stops. <br/><br/>. <br/><br/>By and large Rating 4.7/5

I loved the food, but what struck with me more was how efficient the service was. I was running late, and they made sure that the food served was quick, and they were very genile, plus again the food also was delicious! The Aalo Phulkopi one was good along with Begun Bhaja!

I have been wanting to go to Oh! Calcutta since so many months now and this one fine day I made a visit to this place along with few friends of mine.<br/><br/>The restaurant is big with good interiors. The staff was helpful and gave us good service.<br/><br/>We ordered many items from the menu according to out liking and even some vegetarian dishes as one of the friend was a vegetarian.<br/><br/>Gondhoraj Salad: It was having vegetables and dressing with sesame in it. The taste was decent but it was prices only at Rs. 95 which is one of the cheapest salads I have seen ever. 3.5/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Gondhoraj Paneer: Big pieces of paneer with sweetish flavor of malai. It was great in flavor. Paneer was soft and tender. We liked this dish so much that we ordered it twice but the taste of the paneer in the 2nd order was not as good as the first one. 4.5/5 on taste for the 1st order.<br/><br/>Nizami Murgh Malai Tikka: Super tender chicken with mild flavor of malai. Excellently made chicken. It was among the best ones I have ever had. 5/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi: It came in a leave bag and inside there was chicken which looked like chicken paste. the flavor was of ginger and garlic paste. The overall taste of the dish was mild but I found it totally unique and something which is different from most I have had. 4.5/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Grand Trunk Chicken: It was chicken in spicy gravy but not too spicy. This was the most typical spicy Indian tasting dish of the lot and goes very well with the paratha. 4.5/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Freshwater Betki in Sesame Sauce: It was having fish in sesame sauce. The taste of the fish was good and so was that of the sesame sauce. We even ordered rice to have with the gravy. Overall taste of this dish was predominantly sesame. It was good but not something I would like to eat repeatedly. 4/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Laccha Paratha: The paratha was made of wheat flour and it was well cooked with super soft texture. The taste was that of typical wheat laccha paratha. 4/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Pudina Paratha: It was a laccha paratha with no flavor of pudina at all. I could see some chopped green pudina on top of it but it gave no flavor to the paratha. 3/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Naan: Typical average naan. 3.5/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Gurer Malai Chomchom: It was soft and slightly sweet. Best among the sweet dishes we ordered. 4/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Nolen Gurer Rosogulla: It was rasgulla with slight hint of jaggery flavor.<br/><br/>Bhapa Sondesh: It was like a mithai we get in sweet shops. The flavor was mainly of the mildly sweet aftertaste. 4/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Gurer Talsans: It was hard in texture and none of us really liked the flavor o it. 3/5 on taste.<br/><br/>Overall a great experience with this restaurant and I would really like to visit this place again to try out more items.<br/><br/>Rating<br/><br/>Ambiance: 4/5<br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/><br/>Taste: 4.5/5<br/><br/>Overall: 4.5/5

Excellent food. Very authentic.<br/>Packaging 7/10<br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Value for money 9/10<br/>Timeliness of delivery 7/10<br/>Overall experience 8/10<br/><br/>It took about an hour and little more to deliver the food. The Food was amazing so it was worth the wait. Packaging could be handled better and there is a scope of improvement as the oil was dripping of. Overall met the expectations. Will order again. A wholesome meal for 1, if you are not a heavy eater can be shared with 1. So it was worth it.<br/>The bento had lentils, sweet, luchi, rice, chutney, fried fish and chicken, chicken curry, paturi and 1 veg curry.<br/>Can have customisations for rice prep with extra charge.<br/>Must order!

The non veg thali did not meet our expectations, we had guests over for dinner who wanted to try bengali cuisine, hence we called for the non veg thali, but the packaging and quantity was soo poor that we were ashamed of serving the same to our guests, the fish paturi was like fish pickle. In the description of was mentioned we would get 2 chicken fries, we got only 1 in the thali, we would want to give a suggestion please offer less variety but adequate quantity and quality in your thalis
Suvrojit Som

Hilsa Festival at Oh! Calcutta was truly one of a kind. Loved the excellent fish quality and taste of the dishes prepared are made to perfection.

I have been to this place many times. I am giving a rating of 3 only because of my previous experiences. But today's experiment was really disappointing. I specifically went there for their Hilsa festival. But the food was very disappointing as I felt that they didn't serve either serve hilsa or the hilsa which was served was of not a great quality. The hilsa dish which I had ordered was curry leave based.

Great food, superb service. I’ve been ordering in from this restaurant for years and on a whim decided to go for dinner. The place has a classy and cosy seating. <br/>Everything we ate was good, but special props to the Paneer Tikka which was just perfect in its softness and flavor and the Prawns cooked in coconut milk which had just one of the subtle sweet taste.<br/>The service by the waiter Ashok was just superb, he served us and every recommendation of his hit the mark.

THE BEST BENGALI FOOD IN TOWN!<br/><br/>This place brings heaven on Earth for Bengalis. They’ll love this place a lot. It is highly recommended for all bengalis.

Went here after a long time since I wanted to try something different. The food is authentic Bengali. Its better for non veg lovers, but vegetarians too have good options. Some dishes have a coconut base/gravy so it might be wise to ask the captain before ordering as I feel everyone is not really used to coconut base. <br/>We ordered 2 starters (veg and non veg) and 2 main course (again veg and non veg), with naan and a desert. The starters are superb. The main course too is nice. These days they have introduced a regular and a large portion of most. eg. The dish I ordered has 5 pieces of chicken in the large and 3 in the small, but prices are not exactly half, but more like 75% of the large price. I ordered regular, but was not satisfied as 1 piece was too small and barely any chicken in it. <br/>The veg starter, mainly a paneer cutlet type, was very nice and the fish tikka in non veg too was great. <br/>The naan is slightly on the heavier side but very nice and well made. The sandesh was not too sweet and not too soft either. It was more like a bengali cheese cake ;p, but overall nice.  Overall a nice restaurant in case you are looking for something different in Indian food. Its part of Speciality Restaurants, which also runs Mainland China and Asia Kitchen (my favourite). So quality and taste are guaranteed. Do visit atleast once.
Amrita Sen
Absolutely authentic and delicious bengali cuisine. The kosha maangsho and luchi is a very well made classic dish. The bhapa ilish as a part of the hilsa festival menu is a must try.

Calcutta deserves all the credit to bring Bengali cuisine and making it popular in Mumbai.<br/>When we think about the most popular Bengali cuisine restaurant of this city - Oh! Calcutta comes first in mind<br/><br/>The ambiance totally goes with the rich culture and heritage of Bengal...<br/>The iconic hand-pulled rickshaw, huge wall painting of Victoria Memorial, instrumental Rabindra Sangeet in the background, pictures of Bengali celebraties like Satyajit Ray and many more, an antique gramophone...<br/>The sketches on the plates of iconic structures of Kolkata's - Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial & few more.<br/>Fish net in one corner to celebrate Hilsa Festival..<br/><br/>Chef Rajesh Mallick created lovely dishes to satisfy the foodies' souls..<br/>The few delicacies I tried of Hilsa festival, authentic in taste, a touch of Bangladeshi cuisine, made them totally perfect for the Hilsa lovers..<br/><br/>1) Mochar ilish cutlet (boneless)- Absolutely awesome creation of banana flowers with boneless hilsa, mild spices, tawa fried..<br/><br/>2) Posto narkol ilish (bonless) - A great combination of poppy seeds grated coconut paste cooked with lots of care with boneless Hilsa.<br/><br/>3) Lal Lankar ilish (with bone) - a thick red gravy of tomato chilles (without seeds) paste, covered a fish piece of Hilsa..<br/><br/>4) Meghna Majhider ilish (Boneless) - the name comes from Meghna river, very popular for good quality of Hilsa fishes, the thick gravy was prepared by grated coconut and curry paste.<br/>So many delicacies were prepared by boneless Hilsa, it's more easy for Hilsa lovers, other than Bengalis too to enjoy the dishes of this festival..<br/><br/>It shows how much popular Oh! Calcutta is to other communities of Mumbai, when my Parsi friend wished to celebrate his birthday in this authentic Bengali restaurant. He visited this place many times in last 23 years<br/>Guest service associate, Mr Ashok, who served us food, shared that he knows my friend very well & he keeps on visiting this restaurant..<br/><br/>The birthday celebration started with special curated menu by Chef-<br/><br/>Signature Mocktails -<br/>1) Gondhoraj lebur sorbot - (aromatic special kind of green thick-skinned) lemons were infused in water & sugar syrup, they are getting these lemons from Kolkata on daily basis.<br/><br/>2) Aam pora sorbot - Roasted green mango pulp is used to make this refreshing mocktail..<br/><br/>Veg signature starters -<br/>1) Chana korai sutir chop - patty made of cottage cheese and smashed green peas<br/><br/>2) Mochar chop - a delicacy, banana flower patty with mild spices<br/><br/>3) Gondhoraj Paneer tikka - Soft paneer tikka infused with special aromatic lemon juice<br/><br/>Non-veg starters -<br/>4) Mochar Ilish - boneless Hilsa and banana flower cutlets<br/><br/>5) Gondhoraj Bhapa Murgi Kebab - an amazing creation of aromatic lemon juice, minched chicken steamed dumplings, wrapped in banana leaves<br/><br/>6) Murshidabadi Murgi Fry - boneless roasted chicken with mild spices<br/><br/>7) Fish Fry - Big size Bhetki pieces were marinated & deep fried with crispy coating..<br/><br/>Veg Maincourse -<br/>1) Jhinge Aloo Posto - ridged gourd and potatoes were cooked in poppy seeds paste<br/><br/>2) Cholar Daal - traditional preparation of Bengal gram lentil.<br/><br/>3) Aloor Dom - a very popular Bengali dish of baby potatoes curry<br/><br/>4) Til Lonkaar Tarkari - a mixed vegetables curry cooked in sesame seeds green chilies & coriander leaves paste<br/><br/>Non-veg Maincourse -<br/>5) Bhapa Ilish - the most popular & loved Bengali dish of Hilsa, fish pieces are cooked in freshly prepared yellow mustard sauce.. The most beautiful part of this dish, they served boneless Hilsa<br/><br/>6) Kosha Mangsho - traditional with bones mutton curry cooked in special spicy gravy. Bengali marriages have always this dish in menu<br/><br/>7) Chingri Malai curry - prawns were cooked in mild coconut milk and cream gravy.. Another popular delicacy<br/><br/>8) Fish Tomatoor Jhal - boneless fish piece were cooked in tomato red chilli paste.<br/><br/>Maincourse was served with Luchis (hot flour pooris) and steamed rice.<br/><br/>Tomato dates sweet chutney 😋😋👌👌<br/><br/>A perfect meal ends up with a yummy dessert always 😋😋<br/>As Bengalis serve Chaler Payesh (fragrant rice kheer) on birthdays, Oh! Calcutta maintained the same tradition. The fragrant Gobindo Bhog rice was used for preparing the kheer.<br/><br/>The surprise of the birthday celebration was a bottle of sparkling wine and Misti paan ..<br/><br/>Special thanks to Mr Prasanna Gokhale (Mumbai City Head) & Mr Sunil Panda (restaurant manager) for making my friend's birthday celebration memorable..

Tucked inside the bylanes this place is easy to miss especially if you haven't taken the support of an app to look for dining options. With a warm ambience and a staff that is attentive this place gives you the comfort of a nice family time. We ordered the kakra chingri bhapa, railway mutton curry with steamed rice and hopsher cutlet. The fresh fish and tenderly cooked meat both packed with flavours of bengal make it hard to choose your favourite. We complemented our meal with lychee and gondhoraj and the hot guava punch. Despite the tummy being full we dug into the malpua and the noeen gorer ice cream with the date ice cream initially inviting apprehension but coming out as a clear winner

Avoid if you want the real Oh Calcutta experience. Visit the Khar Oh Calcutta.<br/>Ratings on food below<br/><br/>Changri (prawns) Chittagong - 1/5<br/>Very masala heavy, nearly inedible<br/><br/>Changri malai - 4/5<br/>Excellent, but small prawns compared to my previous experience<br/><br/>Puris - 0/5<br/>Ruined the whole meal. Cold, hard puris that killed the meal for me. Khar branch has the best puris I've ever eaten. This was terrible.<br/><br/>Bhapa ilish (hilsa) filet with mustard gravy - 2/5<br/>Extremely overpriced for a small portion of hilsa served cold in an overpowering mustard gravy.<br/><br/>Terrible experience that was certainly not worth the money. I intend to visit the Khar branch again, but I'd say avoid the Tardeo one.<br/><br/>

One of the best places for authentic Bengali food. Food preperation is amazing with lots of variety. It is easy on pocket. Must try- fish prepared in mustard and mutton. Gives you the feeling of home cooked food. The variety of desserts is also great and reminds one of his childhood days in eastern India.

Visited last night for dinner were told there was a buffet all the food was stale salad was soggy fish was refried looked like they were serving leftovers from one of their outdoor catering have come down with a gastro attack please do not eat here

5 rating for staff helpfulness - from guiding to the restaurant to booking the table to taking order while I was yet to reach at the place as we had train to catch - in everyway the staff was more than helpful.<br/><br/>For food - we ordered Gobi sabji which is how every Indian would eat at home - no thick gravies or some over zealous coloring or anything -. Pure authentic sabji. Luchhi were a delight. Being a vegetarian though - veg biryani here can be given pass, it is more of a ghee pulao with some veggies but lacks punch or layering of flavors that one would expect from biryani.

This was Indeed the first time I have had Bengali Cuisine... I'd my apprehension... However I must say the hospitality of the staff was exemplary...<br/><br/>The place was must silent and less crowded for a Friday afternoon... However enjoyed every single piece of dishes served..<br/><br/>We'd the pre set buffet along with starters... The start of all was the fish and mustard sauce and date chutney... Loved this place and will definitely be revisiting this<br/><br/>Will follow up with detailed food review

Good quality delicious food with great customer service. Love the food here. Easily the best restaurant to eat Bengali food. Just that I always find mosquitos flying inside the hotel everytime I have visited.

I don't need a reminder of how great their food is, as I've always been a huge fan of Bengali food, and Oh! Calcutta has always done a superb job of keeping people's tummies happy. But I had recently eaten their thali after years, and I was blown away yet again. The portions were not measly - they actually send 3 pieces of fish - steamed, grilled and fried - which no one else does.  Then there is a piece of chicken, rice, 3 puris, date chutney (Parsi style), potatoes, dal and rice kheer made with jaggery.  All of it was so good that I think people should just stop reading this review and go eat their food now! What are you waiting for? :)

Chingri cutlet, Pomfret, Bhetki fry, jhoori alubhaja, luchi, Kosha mangsho, cholar dal, daab chingri, pati shapta, roshogollar payesh...all highly recommended. Nolen gurer icecream was good but a poorer cousin.
Kajol Hirani
Been here with office people. As known for Bengali food, it perfectly justifies bengali delicacies. Must try jaggery icecream. Service was quite slow. However, decent place to go out with a family and if you are a fish fan.

Good restaurant with Bengali cuisine in list. Good ambience and tasty food. Price is on high side though.<br/>Recommended if looking for good ambience and group outing.

To be honest it was really sad and disappointing as the staff was not really keen on serving us they were rather more interested in closing the restaurant..as we happen to go there at 10:45 pm and it was nearing closing time the food was good and so was the ambience but the service ruined our whole experience
Manish
Amazing food and amazing service. Biryani & Mustard Fish you must have for sure. Food 5, Service 5, Staff- 5 Overall experience 5. Bong food at it's best!!!

I went with my Bengali friend for checking the authenticity and it was really authentic Bengali food. Don’t miss the Kosha Mangsho (Mutton cooked in its own juice!) and Chingri Malai Curry (contains Coconut Milk: Heaven) and accompanied by Gobindbhog Rice and the Payash ( made in Palm Jaggery) and the Calcutta Paan. A wonderful service. Wonderful experience. Worth many visits.

Wow Calcutta !<br/>This is a premium place to try authentic Bengali food. We had Matal Chingri and Fish fry dusted with Gobindobhog rice flour for starters which were unique. For main course we had Kosha mangsho which is a mutton dish with luchi and then Barisaler chingri pulao. The pulao had an mesmerising aroma. Rosogolla was the way it should be.. soft and not too sweet.<br/>The overall ambience is great and service staff is superb. 10/10 for the service team.<br/>Do give Kosha mangsho and matal chingri a try.

I ordered rui curry with mustard paste. It was really good. Though the preparation could have used more rohu. Got just one small piece of rohu in the order. A second time I ordered a non veg thali, most of it was good just that the murshidabadi chicken was missing and the fish fry was outstanding but a tiny piece. I love the taste of their dishes but the lack of fish leaves you asking for more. For the price I wish they could do justice to the quantity.
Riddhi Kedia
Inspite of being a vegetarian I loved the food here. Every veg dish was amazing. Ordered the banana floret starter, chanar dalna, cholar dalna, alur dum, luchi and khajur gur desserts. Everything 10/10 and service here adds to the taste. Extremely courteous and well behaved staff

I went to Oh Calcutta in 2002 the first time, over the next few years I visited a some more. Enjoyed the food every time. The past 7 years I haven't visited but went there yesterday for lunch and found the food just as amazing as it used to be. My husband who was sceptical at first is now a complete fan of bengali food. I'm going to obviously go more often now.. it's 4 stars only bcuz we're in Colaba and the traffic but the food and service is 5 stars for sure.

Perfect place for bengali food.<br/>Captures the spirit of Bengal with both its food and ambience.<br/>Cost is decent and value for money is guaranteed.

I loved the food in here. I have never tried Eastern cuisines ever but this turned out very delicious than I expected. I tried Aam Kashundi Kakra which was tangy boneless crab curry & Grand trunk Chicken, can say a premium version of butter chicken or even better. Well mannered staff service. Loved every bit in here. <br/>❤️

A Sunday afternoon deserves a Bengali feast followed by deep slumber!! And we did just that!!<br/><br/>Back here after ages, and always a delight to meet Ali (valet) and the ever helpful Arjun and Sunil. I have been a patron to this place for about 25 years now, whe they started out as Only Fish at Shivaji Park - now occupied by Sweet Bengal. Over the years, I have also had several bones to pick with them - but that is the past. <br/><br/>One of the standard orders of ours has always been the betki fish fry, so we thought of trying the topshe fry - too bad it was not there. So, back to the betki fry - they have added a variation in sizing - regular is 2 pieces and full is 4 pieces - and these are really large. Do not mistake this for the fish fry that is stated in the appetizer page (that is basa) - the betki fry sits inside the mains. Best is to ask for it with your host. And it is priced much higher than the basa fish fry, and the regular 4 pieces costs Rs. 945. With the accompanying kasundi, the fish was fresh and divine. <br/><br/>We got a small tasting of their kafir lime chicken kebab - cooked in banana leaves. Nice and sublime. <br/><br/>We decided to try out the Shorshay Narkol Chingri (Mustard coconut prawns) - it seem to be on a temporary menu. And the Kancha Lonka Murgi (Green chilli chicken). Plus of course, a large steamed rice. <br/><br/>For anyone who doesn’t fancy steaming ears and running nose, keep away from these dishes. We just loved them, in between copious glasses of water, regularly filled by ever attentive Rajani. The chicken was soft and the sauce thick - The chilli starts attacking your tongue immediately and you can feel the heat in your ears. The prawn dish is superlative - the grated coconut makes the mustard sauce thicker than usual, and you can feel it as you eat. The mustard tingles the nose. More water, but difficult to stop eating this lovely dish. I prefer to eat my prawns at the end, and they are very fresh and soft. <br/><br/>To cool off, we decided to get our usual Nolen Gurer Ice Cream and the new temporary addition of Nolen Gurer Kanchagolla. Nolen gur is date palm jaggery syrup - usually available in winters in Bengal. The Kanchagolla is a dryish sandesh - soft and crumbly. <br/><br/>The total billing was a reasonable Rs. 2,500 which included a pint of beer and service charges. <br/><br/>It was a wonderful dining experience. And we went home and zzzzzzzd deep into the evening!!

Ohhhh Calcutta!!<br/>The service, ambience, and food 'amazing'<br/><br/>Murgh muradabadi (****)<br/>Chicken with subtle marination with spices served on sticks just make it easier to eat. Served with tangy and spicy Mint chutney.<br/><br/>Nawabi subz biryani (**)<br/>It was a brown pulav with loads of veges and tasted slightly same as the fried rice with Indian spices.<br/>Served along with finely chopped salad and dahi raita.<br/><br/>Paneer starters(*****)<br/>Fresh, soft and well marinated paneer cooked well and tasty af. Served with green chutney.<br/><br/>Follow on Instagram @stimulating7thnerve<br/><br/>

The special items for the day need to be crossed check with the price as we got cornered while ordering on our first visit and landed up paying way more than anticipated just for a single dish. Also, please check with the server, the size of the meat and how it will he served. We were told that one of the prawn starter will be offered in 6 pieces, one each for 6 of us on the table. Assuming it’s a starter, what came was the opposite. A plateful full of ample small sized prawns in a thick gravy which was no where close to a starter. We didn’t realise asking what it was priced at and in the end seeing a whopping amount of 1975 rupees just for this portion of prawn starter was way too much. When asked why was the dish served different than told, the manager said some of the ingredients were missing hence I asked the Chef to make this. I mean, how can he just change before even asking us and in the end we land up paying 1975 rupees just for one prawn dish. Don’t understand, what they mean by 5 in the quantity section as attaches in the bill when we only placed a single order for that dish. Please be careful. And even for the Luchi (puri) we ordered two regular and we got charged for 1 regular & 1 large.. clearly the billing is not done properly. Attaching our bill for evidence. Management, kindly get in touch with us for clarification - ministryofeatery@gmail.com

Oh Calcutta! A restaurant which would give you a taste of authentic Bengali cuisine in the heart of Mumbai. This restaurant is located in the by lanes of tardeo and I would recommend keeping your google maps handy if you are new to South Mumbai.<br/><br/>As soon as we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the manager who was from bengal giving us a feel of Calcutta. The ambience is pretty simple & nothing to boost about but sometimes simplicity is the real beauty of a place. <br/><br/>For starters we had ordered dhakai fish tikka, bhetki fry.<br/><br/>Dhakai fish tikka: this was amazing prepared & fish immediately was tender<br/>Bhetki fry: this one is not on the menu & was specially prepared for us. Bhetki is fresh water fish which comes from Kolkata. The preparation was pretty simple & I suppose fish was fried with marination of semolina.<br/><br/>Main course comprised of mutton curry accompanied with luchi which was nothing but puri. Then we ordered Kolkata mutton Biryani which had two to three pieces of mutton which was juicy & prepared well, to be honest Kolkata Biryani is nothing but yakhni pulav.<br/><br/>To wrap up our dinner we ordered the Kolkata special sondesh which was pretty ok in taste maybe because I was having it for the first time.
