Review Cafe Millitary - Mumbai

Alok Adi
It is one of the iconic vintage cafes of Mumbai. The menu is limited. It serves Parsi food. The food is good. The ambience is vintage. The waiters serve quite fast and will take care of everything. It also serves beers. Pro tip: Do try out the weekday special dishes and kheema salli here

An old favourite revisited after a while. The ambience & waiters are still the same but the food taste is not as before. Still, it is quite good and affordable as compared to some others in the vicinity. I would still recommend a visit.

While passing through Colaba and near Kala Ghoda area, saw this rustic looking restaurant and caught attention. Initially looked dull, but after entering, came to know its a Parsi Restaurant. Tried their Chai, Brun/Bun Maska, chocolate mousse and scrambled eggs, which was really good... Food is Good, service is also quite fast, but they accept only cash. Rest all a Good experience

Situated in CST, this Irani cafe, among the oldest, is a favorite haunt of mine. I always opt for the keema pav, and on my last visit, I savored their delicious chicken tikka masala. As a food and bar establishment, I paired my meal with Kangaro beer. The nostalgic Irani vibes add to the charm, but do note that this place accepts 'cash only'.

Cafe Military mein vegetarian ke liye kya hi milega? As it turns out, there are a few dishes. And, the man that Sheriar Koshravi is, the dishes aren't merely as token but taste great too! I had their Veg Pulav is superior than the biryani I have had at most places. Also enjoyed their veg dhansak and caramel custard.

Amazing place to try Irani food. The food quantity is average but the taste is amazing. You get that vintage feel when you visit there.

Cafe Military is one of those old-school Irani Cafes that will take you back in time. The vibe makes you feel like you're back in the good ol' days. The service too here is old school, where orders are remembered mentally and not noted down. The one server on duty still gets all orders right and serves to all tables and guests politely and efficiently. What we had here was Salli Boti, Kheema Ghotala, Mutton Cutlet Gravy, Kheema Salli, Brain Masala Fry and Dry Mutton Cutlet. Apart from the dry mutton cutlet, all the items came with a side of Pav. We were 3 people and each of the dishes was sufficiently had by each of us. So it's safe to say that the portion sizes are great! Taste-wise as well the food was up to the mark according to me. At Cafe Military, they also have some interesting selection of Beers. You can enjoy your meal with a chilled beer as well. For dessert, we had the caramel custard which is popular at Irani Cafes. I definitely recommend this place, you can enjoy good food with friends and family and also enjoy the vibe around you!.

Mutton kheema & Pav tasted really good. I liked the Kangaro Beer. I would definitely visit the place if I happen to come to Mumbai again. They only accept cash.

An irani cafe which brings back the old bombay charm with it’s classic irani dishes and an old city charm ambience. Food over here is very tasty definitely try their caramel custard and berry pulao.

This is what a Parsi cafe should be, oh my god the food is amazing and the hospitality is just the best. Mr. Rusi Wadia, is a very humble and sweet man who knows his stuff and guides the customer without misleading them. The chicken cutlet with and without curry is to die for and the caramel custard is just out of this world. To top it all off just grab a soda or their suggested drinks. You can't ask for something better. Tasty Economical Amazing hospitality.

A great Iranian cafe of old world charms, mosaic and great food. The service is superb and our waiter was very courteous and knowledgeable in every menu item. My friend had chicken keema pav and I had veg dhansak along with the unmissable Pallonji’s raspberry soda! A great place for some laid back, relaxed old school vibes in the fort area of South Mumbai

Military cafe is an irani cafe nestled in old Mumbai’s street. Being here one can have good time with different kinds of 🍻 with their own usp kangaroo. It’s really awesome to be here n feel the vibes of good 🍺 taste n 🍱 platers. The service is well and delightful to be in company with. I had my good time. Do urs whenever you have time 👍🍺🌱

This old parsi place is a good place to hang out bear fort, the keema pao is great with simple keema and fresh pao, the service is friendly and quick. Sit back and relax over a cup of tea or coffee. There is no A/c here, so you should enjoy the breeze from the fans .
Karuna Bangera
A Parsi styled restaurant with the classic antique interiors located near to the BSE. The ambience is like any other parsi restaurant, busy with people of all groups but mostly the old aged.
Try visiting this place before 8 p.m. as some dishes won't be available later (especially mutton dishes).

In frame - mutton kheema.

1) mutton kheema- (3.5/5) The kheema was properly minced with spices. However, nothing extraordinary in this dish, infact felt quite bland for a spicy food lover. The quantity was less comparatively to other parsi restro with respect to the price charged. Combine this dish with the iconic raspberry soda.

Overall rating - 3.5/5

Final verdict, I would rather suggest to try some other options in the menu and also they are famous for their beer ( exclusive one) 😊👍🏻 all in all a good experience and a suggestion to increase the quantity in the plates 👍🏻✨

Visited this cafe during our visit to kaka ghoda festival fort as its very famous cafe especially for its parsi delicacies and beer. We ordered kheema, egg sandwich, prawns cutlet and chips, caramel custard and pallonji soda. All the dishes were okay but not that good. There were very less number of fries served with prawns cutlet (barely 5). I personally liked caramel custard.

It is near Bombay Stock Exchange, walkable from
Flora Fountain, Fort area. Bun Maska and Chai is
classic. They have special good items per day
apart from regular Parsi non-veg and veg food.
Chicken Cutlet and Chicken Masala along with
Breads simply fatastic. The payment is only
in Cash but then, there are ATMs nearby for cash
withdrawal.
Devendra Pai
One if the few remaining Irani restaurants in Mumbai. It still had the old world rustic charm to it and. Serves a special dish during lunch every day along with Irani restaurant specials like omlette, cutlet and so on.

We loved the Irani Pulao here which is specially served during lunch. It was delicious. And quite filling and easy on pockets.

If you have never been to Irani cafe, font forget to try out the legendary irani chai and Pallonji's raspberry soda

Food 4/5
Ambiance 4/5
Pricing - decently priced
Sahil Dhure
It is one of the oldest Irani Cafes of town.
Those old typical yet humble interiors remind you of celebration of their Iranian food.
Salli Botti is the perfect dish for those who live sweet and spicy tingling taste.
One of their signature dishes is a must try.
Food 10/10
Ambience 10/10
Service 10/10

While roaming we came across this place,it was crowded. So we decided to go here.
Ordered :-
Chicken Iranian Pulao & Smoked Dal ⭐️⭐️
Omelette ⭐️⭐️
Beer
Hygiene ⭐️
It was a low price restaurant but the quality was bad.
A big NO for this place.

This is a very famous place for Parsi cuisine in Fort, the heart of Mumbai. But I think its exclusivity is the only thing that fetches it points (they have quite a unique selection of dishes).
I tried the Kheema Pav; it's decent, but nothing too delicious or unique. (3/5)
Same with the caramel custard. It had a lovely consistency, and the taste, albeit not too rich, was good (3.5/5)
The cheese sandwich was just plain white bread with cheese slices. Clearly not the place with the best value.
So like I said, nothing innovative or interesting.
I think the purpose of visiting this place is not outstanding food, but a unique experience. It's an old restaurant which has been running for a long time, with select bestselling dishes which are loved by regulars. Worth checking out once, but don't expect food that will blow your mind.
(Also, the menu prices and the prices they put on the bill are different, meaning they haven't updated their menu cards yet)
Swati
A classic South Mumbai restaurant serving Parsi food. The place has the typical vibe of these old timer places - simple decor, tables placed close to each other and one page menus. We tried the Mutton salli botti & chicken keema with couple of plates of pav. The day's special Irani pulao was unfortunately out of stock by the time we reached. Both the dishes were tasty but wouldn't call it the best I've had till date. Ofcourse we had the raspberry soda to go with our meal & a caramel custard to finish off. The caramel custard was ok.. it was clearly those packaged ones & not freshly made at the cafe.

Overall it was a filling, decent meal within a reasonable price range.

My 406th review

I m in love with this kind of old heritage cafes in south mumbai, nariman point ke pucha, fort, colaba, kala ghoda area. It gives vibes of old mumbai with antic furniture n food served in old style, menu placed under d glass of table.

Just loved it

This place also serve chilled beer.

Must try for Kheema lovers. Above that, I ordered chicken biryani, and the meat was tender and fresh. Highly recommend this restaurant for it's quality and taste
Lick, Nibble, Bite, Swallow. Repeat.
I thought I was going to one of THE icons of Parsi cuisine in the city. Turned out to be a damp squib. The Caramel custard was decent, but nothing to go ga-ga over. I've had better, and worse. The mutton cutlet was reheated. That I expected, given the short time it took to reach my table. In addition to being unhygienic (because it had already been prepared and kept), it wasn't reheated properly! I had to send it back to be reheated. The Salli Boti had a few pieces of boneless mutton, but the gravy was plain, and the pieces were adequately cooked. There was nothing memorable about the entire experience.

Whatever you wish to order is not being served, and what is being served is so unappetising and low standard.

This cafe is very hygienic and it is for family friends and couples .
The food which you get has a traditional Irani taste and spices added are quite different.
Mutton is best served in this place
Ambience is super , staff behaviour is wonderful and I guess this is one of the best Iranian cafe we have in Mumbai.

Portion compared to price is small so they can improve it
Overall it’s a must visit for people visiting fort or Colaba area.

Cafe military is parsi resturant located very close of Flora fountain. It takes hardly 10-15 mins to reach here by foot.

Even though many restaurants in Mumbai serve this sweet, but its nothing close to this one. Caramel Custard served here is made in house and is one of the best things to try out here. Its soft and smooth and most importantly its made fresh.

This place is closed on Sundays, so make sure you plan to go here on weekends.

Cuisine : caramel custard
Taste : 4.2 /5
Serves: 1 person
Sweet-o-meter: 4/5
Place : Cafe Military
Price : ₹50 caramel custard
Location: Near Flora fountain, Colaba, Mumbai

Ambience : 4/5 (old, simple, nothing fancy at all)
Service : 2.5/5 (waiters were arrogant and did the things at their own pace)
Verdict : one of the few places where you get such nice caramel custard. The kheema pao here can never go wrong.
Mumbai will never be complete without presence of these classic Irani cafés.
The kheema fry and the classic kheema pao are the star attraction.
Basic interiors and just simple comfortable seating.
Probably the only irani cafe serving beer.
Food will be on your table within no time.
Quick service and only essential dishes on the menus makes it a perfect breakfast place.

What I ordered- kheema pao and Tea.
Yogesh Pathare
Kheema biryani was medium spicy. I really liked the quality of the kheema. After that, I ordered kheema pav, it was coriander kheema. It was also medium spicy. Pastonji raspberry was refreshing. Highly recommended.

Great kheema fry and caramel custard at very affordable prices. Dhansak is mild but we'll spiced and very flavourful. Raspberry drink is too much for a single person. Cutlets are also very good.

The landscape of Mumbai cuisine would be incomplete without the vast number of Irani Cafés dispersed across the city. One of the most legendary cafés has to be Cafe Military.

Located on a busy street in Fort, Mumbai, this café may not look like much on the outside but has character on the inside. Just enter the restaurant and seat yourself. You only have to wait for a few minutes before a server comes to take your order.

You must have their Irani Chai. This is one of the best I have had. This light chai is packed with lemongrass goodness. And no chai is complete without some Bun Maska. They add tutti-frutti to their bread and slather plenty of butter.

I do recommend their cheese toast as well. While vegetarians don't have a lot of options for a hefty meal, you have enough choices to have a light snack. Most people do visit Cafe Military for its affordable range of alcohol.

Service is no frills. The servers are sweet. They come, take your order, and give you your food as soon as possible.

I hope Cafe Military starts providing more options for vegetarians. For now, I'll always go back for their tea.

Visited this place on my recen trip to Mumbai. It is located in the fort area of South Mumbai & is one of the oldest parsi restaurant in town serving scrumptious food since 1933.
Coming to the food i ordered was keema ghotala which was delicious & the meat was minced so well which made it mouth melting. Chicken cutlet was not upto the mark, i didn’t find it fresh as it wasn’t soft & was chewy too. The quality if the pao ( bread ) was good, it were soft & fresh.
Neither i was happy nor disappointed, i would love to visit this cafe again & try out some other options.

P.S - My review is based on my personal choice

I visit this place atleast once a week. The egg Bhurjee with bun maska is amazing. Smoked chicken and chicken fry masala is amazing too.its also a reasonable place and worth the money.

It was lunch time and I was quite hungry and was finding a good place to have my lunch, I found this place name cafe military serving parsi cuisines and hence decided to give it a try.

I had chicken masala and chicken biryani both tue dishes were good taste wise as well as quantity wise.

I went on a Friday evening around 8pm since my sister and I were craving some good kheema paav and we'd heard a lot about this place.
So we ordered 2 kheema paav. Sadly the caramel custard wasn't available ( try going a bit early for their delicious caramel custard ).
First, I found a hair in my plate of kheema. I just couldn't eat it anymore..
I didn't expect this to happen for the iconic place that it is.
Overall - 2.5/5

Cafe Military
An institution for Parsi food
____________________________________
Ambience:
A classic Parsi restaurant with unpretentious decor and seating. It is one of the extremely old irani cafe, almost 80 years.
It is one of the most quintessential irani cafe, places like these are representative of Indian society, rich indian culture and history.
I had ordered mutton Salli boti, mutton keema, dhansak, akuri and caramel custard.
The food served is delicious and freshly made. They have different specialities that change every day. The pricing is reasonable.
Staff is polite and service is extremely quick.

Love the food! It was my first time trying mutton salli boti and I realllly really liked it. The mutton is cooked really well. I tried the mutton dhansak too. It was pretty good!

If you love Parsi cuisine full of traditional love and passion then this is the place you must visit.. it’s so impressive to see that the place hasn’t changed a bit nor influenced with the adulteration of the modern cuisine..
Dominic Savio Braganza
A heritage irani / parsi eatery tucked away at the side of flora fountain in South Mumbai.

They have half the section with the old charm seating and half with the general seating. Good if they can change some broken metal chairs lying around.

Their signature dishes include,
1) Kheema Sali (Kheena with Sali)
2) Akuri (an iranian scrambled egg, with masala)
3) Mutton Sali Boti (Mutton Pieces in gravy with sali)
4) Kheema Masoor Pulav (Pulav with Kheema and Masoor Dal on top)
5) Caramel Custard for desert
They also serve chilled beer, sandwiches and a variety of other items.

Their food is just AWESOME and they have different specialities, that change everyday.

Rates are reasonable compared to the other irani / parsi joints. Don't expect anything fancy, besides the food.

Waiters are always smiling and service is very quick.

Food: The kheema pav is par excellence. I also tried the fish cutlet. It was well cooked and beautifully spiced. If I had not been fully satiated, I would have went on to try out their other offerings.

Ambiance: Gives you the vintage Bombay feeling. This cafe was first set-up in 1933 by a Parsi immigrant. If the brilliant food is not enough, relish the nostalgia seeping through the cloth and glass covered square shaped tables and the Victorian era clock ticking on the wall.

Service: The waiters make you feel at home and quickly bring the food. You won't have to wait hungry for long.

This is one of the few places that you get attached to over time. Do visit when in town.

We had fried chicken with egg n onion which was so good , it's a nice place to visit. Food quality is so good. And mainly this cafe is not so expensive.

Cafe Military is located at Nagindas master road, Fort. This place was on the list of top Irani restaurants, so I thought I would give it a try. So we ordered akuri pav and caramel custard. I just loved both those items, caramel custard was perfect. I would love to taste other items on my next visit. I loved the ambience, which was old school. This place is cheap, budget friendly when you compare it with other legendary Irani restaurants.

Military Cafe is one of the few surviving Irani Cafes in Mumbai. The place is a few minutes walk from the Flora Fountain. It has a laid back ambiance and the typical red white checkered table tops add to it's vintage charm. Along with the delicious Irani food the place also serves chilled beer. If you do not drink, order a chilled bottle of Palonji Raspberry.

The Food:

Kheema Pav- 8.5/10

Chicken Biriyani- 9/10

Chicken/Mutton/Fish Cutlet with gravy- 9/10

Chicken Curry Rice- 6/10

Caramel Custard- 10/10

Fish Cutlet with Tomato gravy- 5/10 (part of the Navroj Special menu)

Tips:

1. Visit in the early afternoon to avail all the dishes on the menu.

2. On a Saturday go early or you might miss out on the best caramel custard.

3. The place is closed on Sundays.

Landed in Cafe Military on suggestion of my father who used to work in this area 30 yrs ago.. Nestled in the quite corner of busy Fort area, the Irani restaurant has still managed to to retain its old world charm.. Th le waiters are friendly and welcoming.. They serve you with respect.. Suggest special dishes and most importantly do not let you wait for your drink or food.. Had London pilsner followed by Mutton Masala Fry and Chiken Masala Fry with the staple 'paav'. Yum is the word.. The best part about the whole experience was that it brought back the memories I never had... All in all a must visit for all the foodies who want to enjoy the old world charm of Mumbai..

This place is a ride to old Bombay. The ambience, the food and everything will remind you of the beauty that most speak about when it comes to Bombay. The food is amazing, Sundar swast tikau! Custard is a must have and so is the chai. I roughly had around 3 chais in a span of three hours I guess. Biryani was amazing and so was the kheema. The smell of the fresh bun is enticing. The prices are enticing, and the quantity good. Go!!! 😁

In plate chicken masala fry with bread, mouthwatering, yummy 5/5 for this dish. We did not get many options as we went on non working Saturday for office nearby and courts. This place has more menu while office and courts nearby are open. So visit when it's a working day so that you will get more options.

I went there during the Nowruz special menu and wasn't very impressed. The food was almost over and we got the last plate of chicken and rice. It was okay. I was strapped for choices and cash and I would have preferred more flexibility. The chicken dhansak and rice was good but I would like to try something else again. I had the mawa pudding which was very average.
Anson Kalavarayil
Good place for some Parsi food and mild beers. Spacious and less crowds. Varieties available in Chicken and Mutton. chicken cutlet is recommendable. Most of the time there is no availability of their special food items.
Shweta Gupta
The place is amazing they have very quite old Parsi infrastructure which is very nice. I personally love it.
Talking about food I was having very first time Parsi cuisine so I didn't knew much about it, but whatever I had ordered it was amazing. My first experience was good.
So the very first dish I ordered was this chicken masala with bread you can see the whole big fat chicken in the plate and it tasted so so good they have option for chicken either you want boneless chicken or with bones so I ordered with bones. And this is only for 1 person, in their cafe the quantity is only for one person. So don't ask their about quantity.
Second dish I ordered was chicken biryani this is also for 1 person it was tasted heavenly so delicious it was, they served the whole big chicken thigh on their biryani. They were not serving like other restaurants served like pieces of chicken in biryani.
The staff was so friendly and amazing everything is quick. I really love it.
Go and have fun with your friends and family. ❤❤
Omkar Nalavade
One of the legendary restaurant in that still stands tall. Located at waking distance from Bombay High Court this is famous for its Parsi Cuisine. Needless to say when you say pars food you think of Kheema Pav. Well it was good, But still according me Kyani & Co beats it.
Ankita
The cafe indeed is a remnant of the Mumbai. One say see the space getting crowded with white collar people, young couples, lawyers, and anything anyone that reflects the average Mumbai crowd. Definitely an authentic Mumbai place with seemingly polished yet simple crowd. Great service by the staff and I tried the Monday menu with Mutton fry and chicken fry. Both uber amazing. For desserts, I had caramel custard and was not at all disappointed. The staff suggested that their Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday menus have amazing differently cooked cuisines. For all the food I had, the bill was only Rs. 450/- and anyone who hasn't checked out this cafe missed out on a genuine Mumbai experience.

Cafe Military is in Fort, located in one of the busy bylanes close to all the major bank headquarters. Not very easy to locate I'd say.

Unlike most other Irani cafes, this one's a little laidback. They don't really care about customers I'd say. Delivery is slow, food is generally not even hot. You have to call the waiters 10 times and they'll probably turn up once.

So we had ordered the following :

Kheema fry
Chicken dhansak with pulav rice (Tuesday special)

While the kheema fry was just average roadside kheema fry, the chicken dhansak was pretty good and quite filling as well. Though it wasn't fresh.

The chicken dhansak had succulent boneless chicken pieces dipped in a nice gravy which was a pretty normal chicken gravy that one would find in say, Kerala.

The rice was garnished with saffron and fried.

It was a good dish and one would have to come everyday to try out the different dishes which are day exclusives ( depending on the day )

Also, not to forget the pallonji soda that we tried, was really nice. Wish they'd retail it though. A real gem I'd say. Served in a nice Foster's plastic glass.

Might not really come back for more though

Who doesn't want a quick beer with some great kheema pulav coupled with kheema ghotala for lunch. If you also fall into this category, then visit this wonderful parsee / irani cafe in Fort and delve into the deliciousness of their preparations with a chilled kangaroo or a london pilsner (these are beer brands btw). Other delicacies include preparations with goat brain and prawns. Must visit place!

Located in the bylanes of Fort area this one may not be that easy to locate if you are new to the place.

Started in 1933 this is one of the few Parsi Restaurants to run in Mumbai. They have wide variety of menu and they serve day wise special food items.

Coming to the food i had their Chicken Biryani,Chicken Cutlet,Smoked Chicken,Kheema Pav, Chicken Dhansak, Chicken Masala Chicken Farcha and Chicken Russian Pattice.

I liked their Biryani, Chicken Russian Pattice,Chicken masala, Chcken Cutlet, Smoked Chicken which had some sort of authenticity in terms of a Parsi dish.

They also serve Beer at pocket friendly rates along with Good combination of Snacks.

Surely would come here again to try their other menu.
Mihir Sawant
One of the most affordable and oldest Parsi cafe in Mumbai. Unlike other budget cafes and joints, this place is very hygienic and well maintained. A perfect place to relish Parsi delicacies along with a jug of beer. Mutton Dhansak , salli chicken, mutton cutlet with gravy and the kheema are amongst the must try dishes. End your meal with caramel custard or badam pak. "Parsi food and beer", what else can make a afternoon meal so great
Rahul Utekar
May be the best restaurant in fort area for chicken. Typival parsi style chicken mutton. They have maintained their taste and ambience for years (as heard from regular comers). Prices seem little high for quantity we receive but quality of food makes up for it.

On a sunny Saturday, after a relatively enjoyable train ride within an empty lady's compartment, my husband and I went to the Kala Ghoda festival. It reminded me of college festival, replete with art that seems fairly amateur, stalls that sell wares that has few takers, too many onlookers, and the customary selfie was in our face. Organizers of the Kala Ghoda festival, you're really conning the public if you think this is the 'best' that you can come up with for the Indian public. I will give credit and kudos to the security and friskers. They were efficient.

Anyway, we then went on to visit family with whom we had a delicious home made lunch, following which we decided to walk around the Fort area, where I saw the bull of Dalal street, bought brownies from Theobroma(heart melt, sugar high, chocolate delight, and cholesterol high) to finally I wanted a cuppa chai to wake me up from my mid afternoon slumber.

Into Military cafe we walked in and I was pleased to discover that it was Beer o'clock. The ambiance is similar to other Parsi cafes- run down, spartan, bare essentials, and standard parsi snacks on offer with a set menu. Unfortunately, only kheema and maska brun was available, so we settled for that with some local beer.

Two beers down, everything looks and tastes good, the world is a great place to be. It's no wonder Vijay Mallya still believes he's the king of good times, and even with his financial losses, he's still living it up king size in London. Beer does make everyone happier and the bladder fuller faster. It would be wise to avoid the bathrooms, let's just say that it could kill your appetite. I, for one, strongly believe that Swachch Bharat starts at home, in our own bathrooms, and in how we use and maintain a toilet. But I digress.

Food's affordable, dirt cheap, lots of Parsi food staples and super quick service. Perhaps one of the few remaining authentic Parsi joints that can sustain it's place in the culinary market.

All time favorite place.. they serve lovely dhansak and Curry chawal, chilled beers, raspberry and dukes lemon.. Situated in tamarind Lane at fort. It's a lovely place for parsi good

A vintage place to try irani/parsi food. A little shady place. It is just behind the BSE lane. Chicken salli was on sweeter side. I personally do not like sweet gravy in non veg. Hence, giving less star to them.

Best place with cheap rate you can hang out with your gang. Very good service. Staff is too polite. Food is cheap in cost but very good in taste. You can try if you are near to fort area.

This is an old cafe close to the stock exchange building and also close to the court. good, tasty and economical Irani food available here. They also serve chilled mild beers The chicken salli is a must try. I even tried the egg akuri which is like bhurji, just that the water content is more. Do try the caramel custard.

Nestled in the stone age office buildings in Fort, this little Irani Cafe serves up some pretty dishes to die for... You can't miss out on their Kheema pav n caramel custer. We tried the Parsi favourite - Chicken Farcha and Kheema Biryani which turned out great too. Highly recommended to the Fort Office goers.....

Cafe Military is the one of the oldest restaurant in Mumbai City. It has listed in Top 10 Irani restaurant. This is located in heart of the city. This hotel's structure is typical Irani style.

The kheema Pav is most famous dish in the city. It serves delicious caramel custard also. They serves chilled beer as well. They serves selective brand beer.

My visit to Café Military leaves just one other of the top ten Irani restaurants in Mumbai that I wanted to check out. The Irani restaurants, as we know it, are fast becoming extinct and I am in a hurry to check the ‘been there, done that’ checkbox. I picked a Saturday so that I could leisurely check out the place without having the throngs of waiting patrons making me guilty with my pace. And that’s how I got to Café Military.

Nonetheless, getting to the place even on a Saturday was cumbersome with the bumper to bumper traffic. I ordered the Chicken Cutlet and the Mutton Kheema. These are signature dishes at Irani restaurants and were served with white sliced bread.
The cutlet had all those nostalgic flavors; the texture was a bit off - as in dry.
The Mutton Kheema was also quite flavorful and I did a scarpetta with the sliced bread. Both these dishes did their best to evoke that old Irani feeling and quite succeeded. What meal at an Irani restaurant is complete without the custard? So, I had the mandatory custard and I was satiated as only one can at an Irani restaurant.
The time was fifteen minutes to four and I coyly inquired about getting a Parsi tea, only to be firmly denied. For the uninitiated, hot beverages are served only after four in the afternoon. Certainly, the food did not disappoint but my taste buds were not ecstatic. Nonetheless, food gets a thumbs up.

Service at an Irani restaurant is unique. No pleasantries, no small talk - just business. At any other restaurant, I would have perceived the denial of the Parsi tea as an affront- not at Irani restaurant. The focus at Irani restaurants is simply on the food quality and its delivery, sequencing included. For those reasons, I would give service a well deserved thumbs up.

Café Military did not disappoint, mainly because I had recalibrated my expectations even before I stepped in. Overall, I would give the establishment passing grade and will continue patronising these jewels of my adolescent memory.

A must visit for all the Keema Pav, Biryani, Chicken Farcha and Caramel Custard Lovers!

I often visit this place to grab a bite and it never fails to disappoint me. My personal favourite and recommended dish would be the Chicken Farcha which gets over really quick for it's only available on Tuesday and Friday. It's Parsi style fried chicken served with potato wedges and bread. You can choose between the Leg piece or Breast piece. The chicken is tender and fresh while the coating is full of flavour. Their Keema Sali is delicious. The Chicken/Mutton Biryani is yummy and satisfies your cravings and the Caramal Custard delights the sweet tooth.

Do give this place a try!

A "90's feel" Cafe, i went here on a working day and to my surprise the cafe was full. As soon as you enter, you can smell the essence of flavors. A nice decent ambience with good service and even good food.

I had,

• Bheja Masala with bread - This Parsi dish was scrumptious and finger licking good. The self baked bread was soft and treat to have with the gravy. Though quantity wise it would've been better.

• Chicken Farcha - First time i had a parsi starter dish. The chicken piece marinated and deep fried with egg coating etc. Loved it.

• Mutton Kheema Biryani - I don't really have any desire for mutton biryanis. But thought of giving it a try here, surely it was good enough in taste. The mutton was tender and blended well together.

Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Ambience - 3.5/5

Best Irani Cafe In South Mumbai. I love to eat kheema pav and kheema Ghotla. Still maintained the old ambiance. Love to spend time at the cafe.

This is not a restaurant. This is a shrine. Every item on the menu is a must try. You just cannot miss to try them However, my favorites are Kheema Pao (universal favorite), Chicken fried with egg and Chicken fried with onion. Caramel custard makes your day.

(They also serve beer)

Super food. Old school interiors. Loved the Kheema Paav, Salli Boti (mutton) and the Mutton Cutlet with Gravy. Washed it down with (rarely available) London Pilsner beer and ended the meal with amazingly light, mildly sweet Caramel Custard!
The Kheema was to die for, and had a visceral meaty taste to it, and the Boti had a generous helping of meat. The Mutton Cutlet with gravy was superlative and stole the show.
The bread served is typical Irani bakery bread, soft and fluffy, and it complemented the dishes well.
The meal was really memorable due to the quaintness of the place. Don't expect a luxury dining experience here, and you will be very happy.

Ps: the food is loaded with spices and can be heavy on the stomach.

We had a really good time in café military.
The prices are really affordable.
The staff is nice.
Totally recommend veg biryani.
Good place in Mumbai.

I like to eat kheema pav at different places in Mumbai. Want to try out all the restaurants serving kheema and Cafe Military was on my wishlist for a long time.

Happened to be in fort area on Monday. So went to Cafe Military and ordered for the kheema pav and Pallonji's soda. The kheema was kind of okayish in taste. The soda was sweet and refreshing. The other Parsi dishes looked tempting though.

Ended my meal at the neighbouring Theobroma having 2 Chocoholic pastries. As it was a Monday BOGOF Offer.

It is a quite little place in one of the gully's of fort. We order kheema pav and bheja fry with pav. Caramel custard was the perfect dessert after the yummy breakfast. The food tasted good and the staff was very friendly.

Amazing place to have a beer with a deadly combination of saali chicken/mutton/kheema with paav..end should be with a caramel custard...A perfect lunch/dinner with anyone..

The caramel custard here is to die for. Perfect place to grab a quick lunch or post work beer if your office is located in the Fort area. However the staff isn't very friendly (but this is something common amongst almost all Irani cafes in South Bombay). the food and the heritage of this place more than make up for any shortcomings in their staff.
TravelwithPrakky
Love the caramel custard, the keema pav is old style and has been a staple for this place for years. U can also dig in some silled beer. The llace has a daily menu also

Overall Rating (3.5/5)
It's a well known Parsi cafe in Fort area very near to the Churchgate railway station. The place has a comforting feel to it where one can sit back, chat and relax with family and friends. The staff is courteous and the service is quite good. I tried

Kheema Pav --- the mutton kheema was extremely well fried in spices and masala super delicious and flavorful (5/5)

Chicken Salli --- the chicken was very well cooked and salli gave the gravy a texture ....though the gravy was slightly sweet for my taste (3/5)

Caramel Custard --- decent though blame my sweet tooth I found the sweetness to be on the lower side. (3/5)

Overall its nice and value for money place to be if one wants to enjoy some classic Parsi dishes in the Fort area.

An old parsi cafe located in the busy streets of fort. This one's a perfect place for beer lovers at cheap prices. Cafe Military gives you the 90's feeling just when you step into it. We ordered:
1) egg omelette- a typical egglicious omelette
2) Caramel Custard - Having this one was the only motive I had visited this place. I will surely recommend this one.
3) Raspberry Soda- a must have when you are here

Beer lovers can have their local brew at a very reasonable price.

They shut at 9.30 pm so u have to go early for your evening grub. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Cafe Military is one of my favorite places to have beer and people watch. Kangaroo bear is this place's usp. Their kheema is great. The mutton masala and Chicken masala is also good. Their pav is more like bread. It's soft and really nice.
The Kheema they serve in the morning is the previous day's kheema according to me. So I prefer going at noon or after 12.
If you go here at 10, you'll come across an old man reading his newspaper and sipping beer.

One of the oldest restaurant in Fort area. Had boneless mutton biryani which was nice. The pattice was amazing which was served with gravy. Best was the caramel custard pudding. It's a nice place with different menu for every day as with regular menu. The the staff is good n guide about the menu

Cafe Military is a legendary Irani Cafe which has been around for almost 80 years now.

It serves mainly Iranian cuisine & 95% of their menu is non-vegetarian but the vegetarian dishes that they serve are nice such as Dhansak, Dhandal & Masoor Dal.

No meal is complete without the Caramel Custard or Badam Pak.

After reading a lot about this place I finally decided to try this place out. I ordered the kheema ghotala, chicken saali and chicken biryani. The kheema tasted more like an egg bhurji and I couldn't get any other flavor from it. The chicken saali was okay but it was too sweet. The biryani was again below average. Overall it was an underwhelming experience and I didn't even bother ordering the dessert.
