This is a restaurant that looks very ordinary from outside and inside, but its an authentic south Indian Tiffin restaurant. The food is traditional, simple, and yet tasty. I would recommend Podi Upma, Idli, Medu Wada, Batata Wada Sambar, Filter Coffee...all this at least for your breakfast feast. This being a traditional old restaurant, you cannot expect politeness from the staff and ambiance too. Visit this place, only for FOOD FOOD and only FOOD
Loves the simplicity and quick service, very pleasant behaviour of staff.

Passed by this restaurant several times but never really noticed before. Nestled on the Malad station road it's easy to miss the place amidst the crazy traffic and hoards of people shopping or just passing through.
Visited the place this afternoon and the first thing i noticed is the place was completely packed. Navigated my way to a table which I shared with a fellow solo diner. In such places you end up sharing tables often so please don't be surprised. In fact I like such restaurants as the waiting time is usually low.
Visually it's a typical Udupi restaurant so don't expect anything fancy.
What I tried:-
Rava Masala Dosa - Crispy dosa and well flavoured masala served with chutney and sambar. The chutney was perfect but the sambar was a bit tangy.
Chaas - Just about average
Taste - 4/5
VFM - 4/5 (very affordable prices)
A good choice if you want to try some authentic south indian fare. Although the only down side to the place are the waiters. They seem like they've been working there for years but they clearly lack that friendly touch that takes any restaurant to the next level.
P.S. Their menu also mentions that Madras Cafe (Matunga) is their other branch in Mumbai.
Whenever we go for shopping at malad for refreshment we go to this place, food is really good and service is fast, south India to chiniese food also good and faluda was so yummy..
This outlet is located at Malad West. I visited this outlet with my family. We had Spring Dosa,Kokum Sharbat, and many more cuisines. Actually, that day was lucky for me and i decided to plan here with my fam. Ne should visit this outlet. Service was good and Ambience too. Thanks. Visit soon.

If you are looking for an authentic south indian food, this is the place to go!
The nariyal chatni tastes like it has come straight from South. It has a really good hygiene standards and it is nearby the mall and the station. This makes it a busy place. The staff behaviour is also really good.
Now for the food:
1. Masala Dosa: It was very yummy and they put the masala very generously in dosa.
2. Tupa dosa: It was just like uttapa without the vegetables. I felt it was decent but masala dosa is way better.
3. Gajar ka halwa: This again was amazing and they put a lot of ghee in it!
4. Filter coffee: I like the coffee and the taste is good
5. Pineapple mosambi juice: This was definitely the highlight of a visit.juice was so refreshing and fresh that we ordered some again after we were done shopping.
Went here today morning with my friends.
It's just aside Malad station west.
It has delicious food and like amazing dosas.
All food items were amazing and perfect for breakfast.
I had idli and medu vada . Both were amazing and we'll cooked.
With them I had lassi, combined South Indian and Punjabi dishes which turned out good. Lassi was satisfying with idli and vada.
This restaurant has everything at affordable rates that too just aside station.
Amazing restaurant for mainly breakfast and snacks. They have amazing South Indian food for breakfast. Thali for lunch and sandwiches in evening. They have great variety of dosas too.
I recently visited Gopal Krishna South Indian Cafe and had a delightful experience. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional vegetarian South Indian dishes such as dosas, idlis, and uttapams. They also serve lunch and dinner, and even have Jain food options available. The coffee they serve is impressively strong and tasty. The staff at the cafe were friendly. Although the ambiance was simple, the place was clean and well-maintained.
Bonus: it's close to Malad station!
Overall, I highly recommend this place.
Traditional thali n traditional South Indian items served since 1936.absolute treat from the parent of cafe madras matunga
We went to enjoy south of India’s food. It turned out to be one of the best places I had South Indian food.
We ordered butter dosa, rawa masala dosa, rassam wada and filter coffee. Everything was perfect in its taste.
If you are looking for an authentic South Indian cafe around Malad, then this is the place. Just know that the place is around railway station so most of the time you will have to wait outside for your turn. 15-20 mins waiting in peak hours.
Idli and chutney are tasty. Sambar was ok ok. Dosa took longer to arrive. Shira was tasty (just like Satyanarayan prasad).
So for all the foodies who are aware about “cafe madras” in matunga must be surprised to know that “Gopal Krishna” is the main branch which was started in 1936 by late. Shri. Gopalkrishna which was one of the iconic restaurants back then during British era and later in 1940 “cafe madras” was started. So now that you know the history of this place, let’s get back to food😀
This restaurant is situated at a walkable distance from Malad West station, easily accessible.
Small, clean, comfy ambience and extremely humble and courteous staff who guide you through their menu and specials available for that particular day which keeps on changing.
Traditional dishes served piping hot, fresh and that too at affordable rates.
We tried:
🔹Butter Podi Idli - Supremely delicious, hot idli’s topped with podi and dollops of ghee/butter, flooded with cocconut chutney is definitely a must try over here. Highly recommended 👍
🔹Neer Masala Dosa - We all must have tried plain neer dosa but the combination of soft neer dosa along with masala aloo sabji is truly amazing. If you are like me who loves her dosa to be soft and with masala sabji then this one’s for you.
🔹Bun Poori - Very famous breakfast dish from udupi (mangalore) which I had at Udupi some 5 years back and was surprised to see this being served in their special menu. You cannot miss this specific dish it’s that good. Highly recommended 👍. Though it is served with sambhar chutney but I would suggest you to try it with filter coffee, bliss😍
🔹Pineapple Sheera - Loaded with ghee, perfectly sweet with generous amount of pineapple chunks in every bite. Highly recommended 👍
🔹Filter coffee - Coming to a South Indian restaurant and not having filter coffee is next to impossible. Definitely recommend 👍
🔹Special mention for the sambar as it’s not the sweet variant which you usually get in an Udupi restaurant, infact it’s less tangy, refreshing and very tasty.

A suppeeer experience!
It was an authentic + rich + homely taste, normally what we expect from south Indian dishes.
Today we had few breakfast items as below:
1- Filter Coffee (aroma of coffee was 💞)
2- Butter Idli Podi. - A good amount of butter in it - It just gets melts in your mouth and explodes all the three tastes one by one (Idli, Coconut chutney, and Podi) - But it might get a little heavy for one person for opting whole plate in one go, If further you are planning to order more few dishes as well (plate has two idlis in it.)
3- Onion uttapam (I specifically requested to make it spicy, so they add little extra chilies init which I love it.
4- Even I feel so tomato-onion uttapam will taste more good.
If you guys are going for lunch, you can order as above mentioned or else you can relly on the below list:
1- Tuppa Masala Dosa
2- Pulav Kurma
3- Puri Bhaji
Dessert:
1- Pineapple Sheera (All time favourite)
2- Payassm (if it's available)
Notes:
Opening time is from 08:30 a.m onwards
No Parking facility but you can park at the nearby Mall - which is exactly in front of the Hotel .
If you are a social distance freak - Morning time is for you !!!
This is a pure veg restaurant located very close to the Malad station.
Starting with Idli Butter Pudi. They give good 2 big pieces of idlis covered in chutney and topped with Malgapuri powder. The Sambhar is given differently. It was good in taste and is recommended. We ordered ginger lemon beverage and Kokam sharbat. Really liked the kokam sharbat. In dosas, we ordered Ragi masala dosa. The masala was good in quantity and can be eaten between 2 people. It is served with sambhar and chutney. You can order extra sambhar and chutney. Next was the Pulao Kurma. It comes with the pulao filled with lots of peas and small ingredients. The kurma is like a bhaji and can be ordered more once finished. Also, the pickle is served with the kurma. The dish was good in taste and can be had as a meal for one person. Next was the tuppa masala dosa - the main dish. It was made in ghee and not oil and this tuppa masala dosa is heavy and can be had between 2 people. It is having a thick dosa like uttapam filled with lots of ingredients which includes onions, etc and masala inside the dosa. This dish is recommended. It again comes with sambhar and chutney. Last but not the least payasam was ordered and it was filled with sevai and also is called sevai kheer. It was good in taste. Overall experience was alright as the service was okay. The ginger lemon beverage was bitter in taste and I personally didn’t like it very much. But if you wish to have South Indian dish then this is the place to be near Malad Station.

We went to Gopal krishna after more than 2 years. The rates have changed which is expected; but glad that the taste remains same. Had a hearty breakfast of Idli podi, upma, ulundu dosa, rasam Vada. Had to end on a sweet note, so had pineapple Shira too. All really good in taste. Hope they maintain that.
This hotel is located at 4 mins walking distance from malad west station. It was started in year 1936 it is main branch after this cafe madras was started in year 1940. Coming to the food ldli ghee podi is their signature dish must try, masala dosa is very good, bun poori 😘😘 Which was something new and very tasty must try and at the end their cofee is superb. Each and every dish is full paisa wasool.
Definitely going to visit again to try their veg thali.
