Review Matsya - Mumbai

Anish Deshmukh
Matsya – The saraswat seafood restaurant, Goregao (West) My Recommendations- • Solkadhi • Bobshi Koshimbir • Prawns Tawa Masala • Bangada Triphala Ghashi • Crab Sukke • Caramel Custard Location- Located in kind of famous area of suburbs known as bangur nagar. Easily accessible on M.G. road and off link road in Goregao (W). (4/5) Theme- Got a powerful concept as they are the only restaurant who serves Saraswat (Western coast of India) food in Mumbai I guess. (4.5/5) Ambience- Certainly a bright and positive feel you get once you enter. Dining area can accommodate good number of covers. Seating is comfortable enough with couches and chairs. Walls got few of the vintage picture frames which go very well with the theme of the restaurant. Bright lighting is really what I liked. When it comes to restaurants of these kind, interiors hardly matters because it’s always about food why we choose the place. (4/5) Food- As we know Indian cuisine is so vast and really detailed. Food of saraswat community is really kind of unsaid or never came in popularity I feel. This community always believed that seafood is their vegetables. They are not much into eating of land based animals so the love for the seafood is really at high level. Though this cuisine is influenced by Konkani and south Indian cuisine they have their own identity too. This restaurant have really brought the saraswat cuisine live. Dishes made with lot of coconut tamarind can be seen in the menu. Portion size and different unexplored taste of the food is what made my meal really special and impressive. (4.5/5) To sum up- Quality and quantity of the food which was served was really at highest level. We never tend to explore new cuisine but Matsya really got impressing food for you. Freshly cached fish and traditional recipes is what they have concentrated and already we saw the result of it. Do try out this restaurant and I am sure you will enjoy this untouched saraswat cuisine. For sure I will be one of the regular guests of Matsya now onwards. Strongly recommended, do visit them.

Loved this place...after ages have had a satisfying fish thali... We also tried surmai fry which actually reminded me of my moms tava fried surmai...the masala tasted so home made and the fish was fresh as it could be! They had a welcome drink, kokam sarbat which on a hot summer day felt like being in heaven 😂 Coming to the thali.. Fired prisons - yummmm Surmai curry - nice Prawn bhaaji - descent Clamps koshimbir - superb! Rice Bhakti - soft and nice Rice - good Solkadi - excellent Pickle & onion slice - 👍🏻 Overall ...place worth visiting! Ambience - calm and nice with a small fish tank !

The food was just wow!!! We ordered Rawas rava fry which was fresh, Bangda pedawan (a must try), Mori sukka, prawns aambat. The dudoli in dessert part was nostalgic. in all a great find.
ATANU PRASAD SARMA
Excellent seafood place. Saraswat cuisine is its specialty. Hence all dishes marked as a Saraswat Specialty is a must try. Seafood soup is excellent so is the Kanne fish fry. Triphala seems to be an essential ingredient of Saraswat Cuisine and lends an unique flavor to the dishes. Cost wise its not too expensive and average cost of dish is in the range of Rs 300 Ambience is good. It strives to create an aura of coastal Karnataka and manages to land a touch of warmth and hospitality

Nice Saraswat Sea food with a good ambience.a tad on the expensive side and with a not so good concept of not servong fish thali on sundays..worth visiting.Do try Stuffed Bombil ...

Food is up to the mark. Good quality as well as quantity. Service is polite. When it comes to menu,, they vivid options available. Only one concern. I found that the taste and style of cooking was more Malvani than Goan (Had ordered fish thali).

The place has a wide variety of delicious sea food specially for starters... A must try wld be the fish platter which would not only look pleasing to the eyes but taste also amazing 😊.... The staff is also very courteous which makes it a pleasant family restaurant.

The ambiance of restaurant is nice. The staff is friendly. The food is yummy but little bit expensive as compared to quantity.

This place is located near busy street but has calm ambiance. As name suggests they serves yummy seafood. They also serves chicken as well as veg food here. Must try Chicken Thali and Special Seafood Thali on which they serves Surmai, prawns, kolambi and tisarya. For chicken lovers, do try tawa chicken 😋😋

The place is very good. The fish thali and surmai rawa fry is one of the best dishes there
Darshan Gore
Awesome food quality, presentation and taste. The fish was very fresh and didn't even taste like refrigerated. The price is also affordable and worth every penny spent. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was also very supportive. Enjoyed a lot here eating and spending time.

Amazing Sea food after a long time. Never expected this small local place would serve such amazing & FRESH sea food. We ordered Surmai Tawa fry in green masala, Bombil fry (Bombay ducks) and Karwati Prawns (this was suggested by our server). Bombil fry quantity was unexpectedly huge 🤗 Taste was 5/5 service 5/5 ambience 4/5 This place serves much better sea food compared with any classy place like Mahesh or Gajalee. Value for money and great taste with freshness of the fish. New Year Lunch worth the time🤗

If good home cooked style Karwar food is what you want, then this place is worth visiting. The spices & masalas used to make the various dishes here are so authentic that one would want to come here again & again. The place is always full with people in waiting & service is pretty good. Although we had to wait for good 10mins for our thali order to arrive it was well worth it. Do arrive early before mealtimes as this place gets full very quickly.

Finally i had a saraswat seafood joint in goregaon where i can just hop in any time and have the best sea food in town . Always had to look for jaihind , gazalee or highway gomantak but now matsya is here in the vicinity. I tried the chicken thali , stuffed bombil ... chicken thali is a must try . Truly amazing full of flavors and aroma. The spices added in these saraswat restaurants are just so different and unique . They are strong and full of taste . The stuffed bombil was also very nice . Good thing was the sea food was so fresh . The little let down was the kokum curry. I still prefer the kokum curry of jaihind . They make it so well and its so refreshing . The service here is really fast . We wrapped up our dinner in just 1 hour . The staff is friendly and the place is nice and clean .

Matsya had been on my visit list from quite sometime but nevertheless I had to satisfy myself with a home delivery .The experience however dint change as the food arrived fresh , warm and as expected .This seems to be a paradise for seafood lovers ..well for me this is what I enjoyed Crab Masala : 2 crabs , boiled to perfection and cooked in reddish brown masala.Crab meat was tender , easily detachable from the shell and delicious. The gravy was medium spicy, bit grainy in texture and goes well with roti or even bread Prawns Sukkha Masala : Chunky medium sized prawns , slow cooked and made in light red colour masala.Mild spicy , smooth texture and delicious .Packed on banana leaf The packaging was good, food was hot when arrived and delivery was on time . Onions and lemon as accompaniments were too less in quantity and needs to be looked into Overall a good experience and if you are a sea food lover I see no reason you won't like this place.Try it once

This place should be mentioned as the must visit restaurant for seafood lovers!! The food is authentic, fresh and very very tasty. And the prices are just right!! The fish thali that we ordered was perfection, the fried prawns and deep fried na deli fish was fresh and good portions. The chutney was very very tasty. Overall a very clean, hygienic and friendly place to visit with family to taste authentic saraswat cuisine. Feels like it’s been cooked at home and served with love

Awesome must visit...sea food lovers paradise..clean and well lit minimalistic decor.. one of the best sea food and the only saraswat seafood place which i have ever tried in this city...

After the plethora of malwani, gomantak and manglorean seafood restaurants in Mumbai, this is very welcome addition of GSB food in Goregaon.. Their prawns gokarna is subtle and flavoursome as is their zhanzhanit prawn lonche and bobshi ( dry karandi) koshimbir. The surmai tava fry has its own authentic flavour. They also have traditional veg dishes like tomboli and dalitoy and traditional desserts. It is the place for authentic GSB food. Most of all, I would like to commend Manasi Varde for the outstanding customer service orientation that will make a difference in the long run. Keep it up.
Neeta Murdeshwar
People who are not aware of what authentic saraswat food is abt can go dere. The cooks are probably just taught how to cook but dont understand d nuances of saraswat cooking. D waiters r dumb n cant explain u d dish bcoz they r from north.on d whole a terrible experience. Pl change d name from sarawat cooking to just fish or coastal cooking.

Good People; Amazing Food, will come back again very soon. All the best.

Should visit place for foodies, fresh fish, typical saraswat taste. Picked up a parcel but next time would be sitting there and enjoying the food. Neat clean place. And yes of course typical aamchi hospitality.

Avni Gangolli
Overall taste n presentation was good but the quantity was very less eg. Nogli fry which we ordered were just 2 pieces n was without salt we thought the dish was overtly priced! Also chicken biryani was too much ghee laden n spicy but not tasty ..Suggest to keep few Thalis too on weekends as people would prefer that too ..overall we felt the portions were small for the price ..

Ordered the prawn masala last night. The masala was totally uncooked “Kaccha”. And thus it was tasteless. Would never order the same item ever and give a advice for others also to desist from ordering it. Terrible experience 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

I was fortunate to be invited here at this lovely place situated in Goregaon west. The night started off with the signature dish of the restaurant- Stuffed bombil, never in my life did I ever imagine having bombils the way they were served there. All the soft delicious meat stuffed in a delicious coating served hot and crispy. Followed by the delicious prawns koliwada and butter garlic prawns. Along with that I was served with Surmai fry, squid rings and prawns green masala, all three items which will make your Sunday afternoon a chilled one if consumed as a side dish with a chilled beer. And special mentions to the Kokam sarbat which builds the appetite and the Solkadhi which is a classic beverage to have post dinner, which we Maharashtrians are fan of. I highly recommend this place for lovely sea food and having a great time !

It is one of the tastiest seafood restaurant, i found fishes are fresh in taste into fish platter & prawns biryani is aromatically yummy with really good big pieces,

Also they serve other authenticate saraswat currys in fish, chicken, shell fish crab & clams & squid as well

In the desert they also serve dudoli which made out of Nachani which is less sweet in taste & yummm..

Staff is polite & generous

Overall is good Experience

My favourite seafood restaurant in Mumbai.... Love how they prepare food in authentic Konkan style. Food is very hygienic and must try

I went with the family for the first time. The ambiance is good. They serve Kokam Sharbat as welcome drink. The staff is also nice. We ordered Green masala fry Surmai, Special Tawa fry Rawas, Chicken Majestic, Chicken masala , Prawns Curry, Neer dosa and Bhakri. The food was tasty but bit expensive as compared to the quantity. If anyone want to try authentic Sarswat food, this is The place.
Koyal Datta
Went there to try malvani sea food. The place is good. Ordered for thecha bombil fry, surmai tava fry, fish thali, Gokarn prawns, bangda ghashi, bhakri and sol kadhi. As you enter the serve you kokam sherbet as welcome drink. The food was excellent in taste and the service was also quick. Loved the bombil fry and surmai fry. Would recommend it to everyone. The bangda curry and prawns were very less spicy so that needs a little more improvement. Lastly the sol kadhi was to die for. Awesome place. Portion for the price is a little less but tastewise just out of the world.
Nachiket Hanchate
Authentic sea food. Tasty, hygenics, delicious food. Best place for sea food craving.
Birva Desai
Rs. 400 will get you 3 dice shaped small pieces of surmai In the ghasi. They used to give 2 entire pieces, quality and quantity are going down by the day!
Mervin Dsouza
A good place to have some manglorean and konkani food. The fish was fresh and well seasoned. The sol curry was yumm too. Good quantity and good service.

Best malvani food in Goregaon. Those who not aware about malwani food must try this. Mostly found crowded , better to book in advance and enjoy.

The ambience was very nice, food was tasty, staff was helpful. All in all a great place. Must visit!
Had a pathetic experience. We went there hoping for some tasty seafood all we had on our plate was disappointment. The price to quantity ratio was way off. We felt ripped off. Even if it had been tasty at least we'd have gone back satisfied. We literally paid the bill after two disappointing starters and a soup and went to another restaurant because we were left with such a bad taste in the mouth. Even one star is more than enough!
Ita.bhat
Amazing food..loved the prawn thali and surmai fry ...small place but clean and welcoming !
Fish and prawns tasted fresh !
Overall loved it !
Chaitali Borole
1.Chicken Sukka,prawns masala,sumai fry
2.Quick service
3.Average taste overly hyped.
4.Very less quantity spices are very average and have none sarasvat taste. Please don't get away with all this under the name of authentic cuisines.

6/10

After looking at such good reviews i ordered a chicken biryani from here and was quite disappointed. The whole spices interrupted the whole eating process and the quality of rice was bad too. Not worth the money at all.
Padmaja Rao
Very authentic and tasty food. We had the green prawns, masala fish fry, crab masala. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and visit again for sure to try the other items on the menu.

I have finally found the one. This place is cozy. The staff was very polite. Though I was disappointed with their limited stock of stuffed bombil, I would not hesitate to give 5 star rating for their overall taste. The chef is an Artist. Surmai in green masala is a must try. Stuffed bombil has made a different place in my heart. Totally satisfied with the overall experience and would recommend this place to all seafood lovers.

Dropped by Matsya last year for lunch during my visit to Mumbai. Very cozy ambiance and good service. I really loved the Kokam sarbar they served as a complementary drink as I entered the restaurant. Really good food and good quantity served as well. Anybody who is fond of seafood must bookmark Matsya . I must point out the surmai , prawn tawa masala and the pomfret rawa fry - amazing mix of spices and the prawn Biriyani was one of it's kind. I simply loved this place
@Matsya - The Saraswat Seafood

Visited this place for lunch. Good food, quick service and really cost effective. Had surmai in green masala and tava fry prawns for starter followed by gokhran prawns for main with rice. Caramel custard is a must try here as well

I tried to be very critical and find something that can stop me from rating 5 stars. But couldn't find anything. So, here we go. I went here today, and came back with a big smile on my face. For not only my search for a great sea food place was over, but the experience was just so rich.

Let's start with the food. First and foremost, the quality of fish is simply remarkable. The fish were so fresh that I went gaga over this place already. Then, the taste was a piece of dexterity of highest order. Chef is an artist. The way dosas and bhakris and gravies were cooked, enriched the experience. The caramel custard was good too, by this point, assuring me that they can do no wrong. Solkadi game too is on point. Kudos and big thumbs up to the food.

The ambience is decent, only thing that probably fades when juxtaposed against summit of other factors. Not bad at all though. The staff was very friendly & cordial. It's experiences like these that stay with you. Do give this place a try, for everyone deserves happiness. Peace.
This place is where one meets heaven! Especially the stuffed bombil in prawns is to die for! Worth the penny! When we reached there, the main chef was away hence couldn’t try most of the clams and crabs (that was the only sad part) but the food was top notch!

Simple place but yummy food. Had ordered crab soup, Chicken thali with bhakri, Surmai ghassi and neer dosa. Enjoyed the Saraswat food. Will surely vsit again to try other dishes👍

This is arguably the most authentic eating place in a city that emphasises style over substance. Serving Saraswat Konkani Food, primarily Sea Food, Matsya beats every other sea food joint in Mumbai by a wide mile. Lovingly curated seemingly from home recipes, Matysa is a delightful culinary journey. I don't know anything about Saraswat cuisine but after eating there 3 times I can say it is divine. Subtle and complex recipes, unusual ingredients and a light touch puts this cuisine in a different league. Many Saraswat friends have vouched for its high quality. Don't miss the koshimbir with the tiny dried prawns, the turmeric leaf wrapped steamed fish, or the many delightful curries. The hotel is located in crowded junction with no valet parking. So commute accordingly

This is the small cosy place for seafood lovers. It serves variety of seafoods.

We had ordered
1. Deep Bombil Fry: Deep fried bombil coated with rice flour and red chilli powder served with green chutney. They have not removed the main bone of the bombil which was quite irritating.
Taste: 1/5

2. Prawns Biryani: It has average taste with good amount of prawns.
Taste: 3/5

Apart from this, their service is also good. It serves kokam sarbar as a complementary.

Price: ₹800 for 2 people
Saniya Chati
A quaint little eatery in the bi-lane of Bangur Nagar serving authentic Saraswat cuisine. Simple decor, Courteous staff, Prompt service, Hygienic place.
Great fish dishes. Tried the chicken and fish thali. Chicken was very well cooked in coconut based gravy. I opted for the rice Bhakris instead of the chapatis, which were fresh and soft. The solkadi had the right consistency and flavour. The fish thali comprised of a fish gravy, fried fish of your choice, Bhakris/chapatis, rice, solkadi, clamps koshimbir and one fish bhaji.
The surmai fish curry had mild flavours. The fried fish was crisp(bombil, prawns). The clamps koshimbir were tasty but they could’ve used bigger clamp.
Ordered duddoli for dessert. It’s a traditional sweet made of ragi. It could’ve been a little more melt
In the mouth types.
The place also serves good vegetarian varieties from the Saraswat cuisine.
All in all a good experience.
Matsya is truly a hidden gem. I was in the hood so I dipped by since I am a seafood lover. The food is fabulous, the place is comfortable and cozy and the staff efficient. We tried a few things on the menu and they are all outstanding. Recommended. 🙂

Neat little place tucked away on MG Road. Spotted it purely by accident. Clean and neat. Food was yummy and worth every penny. Go if you feel like a fishy treat.

It is rightly said that Saraswat's ace in seafood cuisines and one such place I visited was Matsya where I relished authentic Saraswat fish preps with a very homely touch. They serve a wide variety of dishes ranging from salads to finger food to special curries and deserts that are prepared in very authentic manner. I was introduced to a special "sukat koshimbir "made out of dry prawns ,freshly grated coconut and lemon juice. I totally loved it. To name a few other picks from their menu to tease your taste buds are the prawns koliwada, bombil fry, surmai tawa fry, traditional Saraswat rawas curry and prawns biryani. Oh yes and the meal is not complete without the sol kadi. Totally loved the food here and I strongly recommend this place to every fish lover!

Been a couple of years since I've been wanting to visit this Saraswat-speciality restaurant.
And boy, the wait was worth it! We were a group of 6 and on asking Abhay (heading team Matsya) for recommendations, he said he'd send a few, and the food kept coming in, non-stop!

First came the starters, a mix of the usual suspects and home-made ones: garlic prawns, saraswat style prawns, surmai in a home-made masala version, bombil rawa fry and raw banana chips! This was accompanied by a glass of kokam sarbat (welcome drink) and then a tall glass full of the yummiest sol-kadhi I've had! There was an interesting addition to the starters by this time, a dry prawn koshimbir. Super light on the palate, this one was made using fresh coconut, onions and dry prawns. For the mains Abhay recommended a Ravas curry with steamed rice which was gobbled up in no time! An unexpected highlight in the middle of all the sea-food was "chicken majestic", a tangy, kadi-patta ke tadke wala starter. This was rounded off by caramel custard and duddoli (a ragi based sweet).

Verdict:
Matsya is a family run sea food restaurant specializing in saraswat cuisine. Their daily catch is from one of the best sources in Mumbai and super fresh. The recipes including masalas have evolved within the family and have the "home-made" feel which is evident from the post-meal lightness one feels! I'm already salivating as I pen down this review thinking about my next visit.

P.S.: I have no pictures to post, which is also a clear indication of how yummy the food was!

Must visit place if you're a sea food lover. Authentic flavour and fresh ingredients. We ordered stuffed bombil and crab sukke with neer dosa. Staff is courteous, ambience is decent and comfortable. Plus point, they give you a nice welcome drink.

When it comes to sea food, nothing beats Matsya! This restaurant is a quaint one located on a rather busy road in Goregaon West. The moment you enter the doors of the restaurant, almost magically you are transported to the southern and western coast of India with the huge photographs of different places adorning the walls.

We ordered a number of starters that included fish, prawns and chicken- all of which were cooked in Saraswat style, the speciality of the restaurant.
The dishes were beyond delicious and extremely flavourful. this is one place where everything on their menu is a must must try. Order it home or eat at the restaurant, their authentic and homely preparation of dishes will make you visit the place again and again.
Do visit this restaurant- it’s a hidden gem!

I’ve been living in Goregaon a while and my go-to-place for sea-food delicacies is Matsya! But, last night I actually visited the restaurant located in a prime locality of Goregaon. The ambiance was very welcoming and the seating was comfortable. The staff was courteous and we were lucky to have the owner Mr. Abhay in the restaurant at the time. He was our food guide and suggested some of their best dishes on the menu. The service by the staff was really quick and you really don’t have to wait too long to have food on your table.

Must Try dishes : Majestic Chicken, prawns masala, prawns and coconut salad( a unique thing you must must must try), prawns biryani, fish curry and rice and the list just goes on..... trust me when I say- one visit to this place isn’t enough to try all the awesome dishes they have on their menu!

Matsya specialises in Saraswat sea food and is probably one of the very few restaurants in Mumbai that serves this cuisine in its most authentic form. The deserts were delicious and we tried the caramel custard and a special pudding made of ‘Nachani’ (a kind of grain flour).

Looking for a unique cuisine? Matsya is a must try if you are a fan of sea-food!
Thank you for one of the most yummy sea food dishes ever.

The best of its kind! With multiple seafood restaurants in every nook and cranny, this place prides itself to having one of its kind cuisine - Saraswat seafood in Mumbai!

The coastal brilliance of Karnataka brought to you with a special homemade curated menu.

My experience was worth taking monthly trips to this place! The personal touch was experienced when the host recommended some of the dishes to us as per our palate and choosing. The spices are definitely one of a kind and we were most certainly not disappointed. We were also told that the owner himself has added few dishes as per his grandma's recipes which added to the rustic homely yet refined feel.

Items to try here
1) Crab green bhurji - an in-house spectre of brilliance with mild spices and succulent deshelled crab
2) Prawn Gokarn Masala - the spicy flavours make those juicy fresh prawns the star
3) Pedawan - fish steamed tumeric leaves with gravied spices that coat the fish Extremely well. I opted for the surmai
4) Pomfret stuffed - Fresh beautiful fish with its taste from the sea. Stuffed with a surprised of finely chopped prawns and regional spices.
5) Rawas ghashi and steamed rice. - This is what comfort food tastes like! Not overtly spicey and finger licking good
6) Bagda triphala ghashi - SUPER DUPER SPICY will blow your top off but this is the kind of spicy which can only be satisfied with the next morsel !

And not to forget, the star according to me, to any savoury dish is the subtle beauty of the accompaniments.
The Neer Dosa and Bhakri were the best I have ever tasted at any seafood joint. Unlike their usual texture, these were slightly thicker, softer and did their job! I can go on and on on how I personally felt this was the Star dish for me!

All this and a glass of cold Solkari is the cherry on the cake.

Pros
- Super fresh Fish
- Guaranteed Foodgasm
- Friendly Staff educating you about the menu
- very very Quick service!
- Absolute value for money for such food worthy of Poseidon and other gods of the sea

Cons
- I might have to make multiple visits here to find any!

I would recommend this place to anybody who wishes to taste Fresh, hygienic and beautifully cooked friends.
Food use to be really great- we specially visit the place for carbs which was worth it ,but now as we have recently visited the place things where not up to the mark - what we have got is just two crab claws (not even a whole crab) and the fish fry was having not even completely 2 piece (1.5) they have also remove couple of crab dishes from the MENU - A really BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
Have lost a regular costumer (me)

Very basic still pleasant ambience.

There ain’t many restaurants who serve authentic Saraswat food.

I Enjoyed the food a lot. For those who love Goan and Malvani food, Saraswat cuisine might seem familiar, yet different, and is definitely a food journey you would want to explore.

‘Gokarna prawns masala’ and ‘Crab green burji’ are worth trying.

Food 4/5
Ambience 3/5
Service 4/5
Value for money 3.5/5

I have been too many seafood restaurants but nothing like this one....
Surmai ghashi with neer dosa was out of the world.
Also the butter garlic squid and prawns...kya batau ....
No words...

Me and my family visit Matsya quite often... As the name says, the restaurant serves few of the authentic Saraswat dishes which you won't get elsewhere. Every dish of this restaurant has its own unique taste unlike the Punjabi dishes which revolve around the red and white gravy.. the curry and gravy combinations recommended for every fish is very tasty.. it just enhances the flavour of the fish and makes the dish completely different than the other preparations. The fish is very fresh and preparations are suggested keeping our taste in mind.. the staff is very courteous and takes extra effort in suggesting dishes.. the ambience is simple yet very soothing.. it's our favourite.. and we visit here regularly with family and friends

Me and my family had a very great experience at this restaurant named matsya. The restaurant is very hygienic and well maintained. The ambience is soothing and the perfect lighting makes the fish eating experience memorable. We ordered chicken majestic for chicken lovers and suran phodi for veg people along with many fish starters. The quality, quanity, pricing, taste, service... Everything is very good. A next visit very soon is already planned..

Had a very bad experience at Matsya yesterday and would not recommend this place. Being Saturday, no fish thali was served so ordered a la carte. Ordered Surmai fry which was not fresh. We had also ordered Ravas curry and chapati along with it. Taste of the curry was not up to the mark. Definitely not going here again.
Hilda
I am not a seafood lover though.. but had to try it out here.. perfectly fried fish and the surmai curry full of flavours.. surely visiting next time..

Well, what do i really say about this place?? There's a lot to describe. I got a chance to visit this place yesterday with my family and to tell you'll, my parents are always interested in 'Marathmolyaa' dishes. Nothing to do with any western cuisine. So I always had to drive them down to Bandra at Gomatak where also they were not happy. But the best moment was yesterday, when I saw a smile on their face with the delicacies we enjoyed. The people here gave us a very warm welcome, offering us kokum sarbat as a welcoming drink too. We started off with stuffed bombil and rawa fry prawns as our starters, and i tell you cannot stop, its so delicious that you will order again. Then was time for the main course including chicken biryani and special fish thali. Paagal ho jaaoge guys, khaake dekho. The curry, the fish in the curry, the koshimbir, the fried fish, rice bhakari, all from the fish thali have been super awesome. And the biryani, juicy chicken, with the most appropriate flavour of spices, mehek se hee toot padoge uspe. Sol-kadi again is so very authentic, made with proper coconut milk. And last but not the least, the desert, my parents never liked caramel custard until they had it here. Let me tell you guys, its like nothing to see your parents delighted with the food they eat and they get the best of what they actually like. You know what they said 'aajchaa jevnaane aamhi trupt zaalo' which means we are super satisfied with the food today. The best part is, you order and you will be surprised how fast the order comes on your table. I never had a moment to write about any restaurant before, but here i couldn't stop myself to do so. Overall if i conclude the delicacies here in one word, i would say 'LAZEEEEEEEEEZ'. I highly recommend Matsya for those who are fond of best of the tastes in Malvani and Konkani food. I bet you will forget places like Gomantak and Ghazali. Thankyou and All the very best to team Matsya. I have been speaking all day about the food there and already recommended most of the people I could. Visiting back shortly. Biggggggggg thumbs up ;-)

My wife is a fish lover. So took her for dinner last week. She loved the salmon dish. And to my amaze since I'm a vegetarian the dal tadka with pure ghee was amazing... Too delicious.. So matsya is not only the place for fish lovers. But they also serve good vegeterian dish also. Would surely visit next week again team matsya

Ambience is average. Service could be a bit faster. Food is really good and authentic to the style promised. Tried almost all kinds of fish here and loved each and every one of them. A definite recommendation if you love this cuisine! A small recommendation to the management - kindly try and serve fish thalis on weekends too. Couldn't manage any clicks, will update on the second visit!

Went there due to their excellent rating.

We had 6 dishes in all.

The good ones are as follows

Crab meat soup -

- Very delicious. Loved it. Good crab flavour. A very light soup.

Surmai rava fry -

I asked him to make it a little spicy. It still didn't turn out to be as spicy as my expectations. But it was perfectly fried and crisp. And tasted amazing. Next time will try more fish fry items.

Crab masala -

Another amazing dish. Very delicious. The curry had great flavour. This is one dish which is enough for me to give 4 star rating for this restaurant. The quantity was also good, it was a medium sized (large Enough for one if this is the only dish you are having) crab.

Prawns Biriyani -

Not phenomenal, but still tasty as far as prawns biryanis go. Good sized prawns in the biryani.

The ones we didn't like

Tisrya sukha - it had too much coconut in the masala which dominated the the flavours in the dish. Didn't like this dish. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Butter garlic prawns - hated this dish. The last time I had a butter garlic fish dish it was in Goa, which was butter garlic squid. And this time I thought let's give it a try with the prawns. Seems like I don't learn from my mistakes. It was not at all tasty, and had that unseasoned fish flavour. Maybe this dish is just not my thing. Waste of 400rs.

Overall a very good experience and will definitely visit. However this place is somewhat heavy on the pocket and our bill went up to 2700. But we had a lot of dishes so can't complain.
loved the fish they served... fresh n delicious 😊

The food is very delicious, authentic karwari cooking style. We had bombil rawa fry, Mandeli deep fry, mix fish soup, prawns Sukke and rice bhakris. Everythjng was perfectly cooked. Staff is very courteous and has good knowledge about the menu. Worth a visit if you are a sea food lover!!

The ambience is nice and cozy but the food. Oh god, I've never eaten such good seafood short of the konkan region. Truly authentic saraswat cuisine. Literally ended up licking my fingers. Must try for every seafood fan. Service was also better than most restaurants I've been to. Great experience, definitely visiting again.

After reviewing 235+ restaurants, this is one of the best places in Mumbai that serve the most awesome Thalis.
Mr Rajesh recommended and took very good care of our table
We ordered for Sea Food thali and Veg Thali.
It was the most delicious thali that I have ever had.
Fresh fish, Authentic konkan masalas, yummy prawns and shell fish cooked to absolute perfection.
The Veg thali was fantastic, biryani was excellent.
Vicky served us well.
very courteous staff.
Matsya is the hidden gem !
The prices are reasonable too.
Very highly Recommended and a must visit.

One thing i like about this restaurant they serve you welcome drink of kokam sarbat. Chutney served with meal was nice. Every dish you order cooked with perfection with good quantity.
We ordered
Surmai Pedawan
Squid fusion fry
Stuffed bombil
Sukke kalwa with neer dosa
Spl fish thali with bombil fry
And last but one nelan gur ice cream which you won't get any where out side

This place is so dear to me. It has redefined coastal food and has stayed true to its ethos - Saraswat seafood. And that’s what is the best part!

On my recent visit to Mumbai, I happened to visit this seafood restaurant... I am not a seafood fan but I totally enjoyed my experience here. We ordered surmai rava which was marinated well and coated perfectly with rava. Gokarn prawns masala and chicken ghee roast went perfect with rice bhakri...The ghee roast had this subtle taste of ghee and curry leaves.. chicken was cooked to perfection.. still have that taste on my tongue. Fish curry was one of its kind.. it was very different than the usual malvani curries and we enjoyed it with rice. Quanity is more than sufficient. Would take more of my friends the next time I visit so that we can order more varieties... Cheers team Matsya... Very polite staff

Friday night was spent enjoying some lip smacking seafood from Matsya. Every dish had its authentic saraswat taste.. I assumed there are no traditional chicken starters but chicken majestic ordered from matsya changed my thinking. It was simple yet tasty.. we ordered crab masala and gokarn prawns masala to go along rice bhakris and neer dosas.. crab masala was the best I tasted... Gokarn prawns was cooked in coconut oil and had it's unique taste. We also called for some solkadi which gave a proper balance to the food. A visit soon to this restaurant is on my to do list.. more dishes to try..

I don't have a very negative review about the place but let's just say I have had better fish. I think I didn't like the food because of lack of the spice infact few fishes that I had were not fresh.
Prem S.b
I called for there specialities. Stuffed bombil , surmai masala fry and rawas green marsala fry. Stuffed bombil is a very unique dish with small prawns stuffed in the bombil then rolled and fried. Every bite gives leaves different flavours in your mouth. It's also very filling. Every restaurant has fish rava fry which is like home made fry. But the masala fry was different. It was spicy and tangy, it had no tags coating so the fish flavour was coming out very well. The green masala is again very subtle.. it's not spicy but the taste lingers on your mouth for quite a while after eating. This restaurant has to get more support and recognition. Such fresh and tasty fish at affordable prize has become a very big deal in Mumbai. All the best team Matsya..!!

With all the High expectations we went to this restaurant for Sunday Lunch. It all started with a complimentary welcome drink made of kokam which raised our expectations even more. We ordered chicken thali and Prawns Rawa fry. Thali had chicken sukka which was sweet in taste due to lot of onions used as a base, you can choose btw Rice bhakari or chapati. We tried rice bhakari which was soft and fluffy. Then comes chicken curry to eat with rice, it was more of a fish curry style with chicken pieces not marinated well. Prawns Rawa fry was perfectly cooked and nice in taste. Ended our meal with Solkadi which balanced out everything. For fish lovers you may wish you try out their different style of fish preparations from the menu.
PS: Fish thali not on weekends

Service - Good with attentive staff
Food - Average
A birthday well spent at Matsya. The entire family digged into the amazing spread of seafood Matsya has. Starting from their pomfret masala to surmai fry to prawns koliwada to mandeli deep fry to bombil deep fry to crabmeat soup.. each and every dish had a burst of multiple flavours. The seafood tasted yummy.. looked yummy and we all felt yummy.. prawns biryani was loved by all... The prawns were very fresh and were tender. They went very well with the biryani masala. Ended the dinner with some tasty kulfi , payasam and caramel custard... Already made a list of items to be tried the next time I visit... Great work

Had been to my aunt's place in goregaon. She suggested this seafood restaurant. Instead of visiting the hotel, we called for the food at home. The food was delivered hot, so full marks for that. We ordered bombil rava fry, surmai rava fry, chicken konkan masala and bobshi koshimbir. Both the fish were fried perfectly with no extra oil. They were nice & crisp on the outside yet perfectly soft inside. Too yum. The chicken konkan masala went well with neer dosa... A simple yet tasty side dish bobshi koshimbir was unique. The drizzle of coconut oil gave it a different flavour. All in all a great experience. Will definitely visit again to taste their other delicacies. The pictures, though good, don't do justice to the taste. Kudos Team Matsya. You've got another fan. Keep up the good work

Me and my wife decided to try this seafood joint. We are huge seafood lovers, so we walked in with high expectations. To start with the place looks absolutely beautiful with it's white and brown color theme. The picture frames, the chandelier and the fish tank adds to the simplicity of the restaurant. We went ahead with stuffed bombil, squid butter garlic, seafood soup and my favorite crab hot and spicy. The fish is very fresh and hygiene is admirable. Would soon visit with my entire family. Keep it up guys.

We had a family get together in Goregaon. So we decided to organise it in a seafood restaurant named Matsya. It's a Saraswat restaurant serving all their specialities and few fusion dishes. We ordered a number of dishes.. the steamed pomfret called as "Pedawan" was the highlight of the entire order. Bangda Rava Fry is by far the best I had... Apart from this we ordered Crab butter garlic , squid fusion fry, chicken majestic, prawns Biryani, Surmai Ghee roast... Surmai ghee roast was very similar to the ones I tasted in Mangalore.. all in all a very delightful experience. Would suggest it to all the fish lovers..
Vicky Kasture
Yummiest seafood ever had. Went there to celebrate my parents marriage anniversary. Ordered almost all the different fish they have on their menu. Starting from prawns to squid to crabs to pomfret. Their pomfret rava fry is excellent. Not too much rava coating and perfectly shallow fried. New addition to their menu.. prawns koli wada. A common dish in all restaurants but by far best eaten here. All relished almost three plates of it.. for veg.. there is kela/suran phodi which looks and taste exactly like fish but is vegetarian. . many more visits and celebrations to happen in karata. Cheers!!!

Excellent taste of sea food...
Pure Konkan taste must try there starter of bombil fish and surmai fish.

Even I try there chicken biryani and prawn biryani great taste.

As the name suggest, it's a place to have seafood and a Maharashtrian style food served at best.
Fish thali(***)
Contains fried fish, fish curry, chapati/Wade/Rice Bhakti (suggest you go for Wade or Bhakri) a bowl of rice and sol kadi (it's an konkani drink that is mostly had at the end of the meal"like chaas" a digestif).
Veg thali(**)
On that fond of eating veg, 2 veg gravies a dal and rice and same options in breads.

Follow on Instagram: thewaggishdoctor
Follow on Tumblr: thewaggishdoctor
#seafoodlove

The food is up to the mark. We ordered Surmai Tawa Fry, Crab Meat & Pomfret. It was mouth-watering & super tasty. The ambience isn’t that great. The staff is polite & friendly. We called & asked them about the menu before ordering it online. They were very courteous. Matsya is value for money if you’re just here for some good sea food.

This place offers cost effective fish thali with enough varieties. Solkadhi is mouth watering. Staff is attentive n prompt. Can improve on authentic Goan dessert - Dodol recipe.
Have visited this place couple of times n they keep on improving. Thus, it’s always nice experience to dine with Matsya. :-)

Thalis are available only on weekdays.
You are welcomed with complimentary Kokam Sarbat . It's yummy and healthy as well.
We directly ordered Special fish thali and in sides we called for Surmai special tava fry. Special fish thali was totally worth it and can make u super full. Thali consisted of Rice bhakri , prawns koshambir, kardi bhaji, crispy Bombil fry, solakadi, chutney, rice and yummiest Surmai Rassa. Tava fry wasn't the best I have ever had. It was oily.
Last visit, we had tried dudoholi (dessert) . It's authentic saraswat dish. Can try. Jaggery and nachni based healthy dose 😉
Did not live up to expectations and other reviews. Quantity was also not up to the mark. Also tried something called karandi bhaaji, which was left untouched by all.

I have been visiting this place since the time it has started and love eating there. The welcome drink offered by them is heavenly. Each dish has a unique taste, mouth watering. They do not serve Thali on weekends and I have always been there on weekends, last night being a Monday I got a chance to eat Fish Thali and I must say it was awesome as I have never experienced a Fish Thali like this one in any other restaurant I have eaten .

Visited this place last week with friends and must say it was a great experience. They are truly masters in seafood and have a superb variety.
Specially liked the crab masala and pomfret fry.
Good job guys 👍

This is a GSB specific cuisine restaurant which I felt as a cross between konkani and malvani cuisines.the ambience is nice and the food quality is good if you are a sea food lover.I recommend the green masala fry, crab masala, gokarn prawn masala. If you want a taste of everything feel free to try out the thalis.

Crazyy Food with perfect price - just loved the restaurant Food.
The Chef was great in getting the desired customized taste.

Thank you Guys for a wonderful time and Great food.
It's About Good Food
If you want try some seafood or marathi style food come here. They provide good service and staff is well maintain. One thing I like about this restaurant is they give you konkan juice before your meal. Food is excellent as they make food in Marathi style. If you are veg don't worry they make good food in Marathi style.

Food - 1 Ambiance - 1 Service - Would have rated NEGATIVE if possible. Value For Money - 1500 for 2. All marks to just 1 dish which was manageable, otherwise lacklustre service & below par taste forces you to regret about the thought of visiting this place.

FOOD - Had visited on Saturday & realised they "DO NOT serve fish thali during weekends." You feel nice when you are served with cold Kokam sharbat as welcome drink. I asked for one at room temperature rather than cold, much to my surprise server warmed already served sharbat in microwave. Let me mention, hot kokam sharbat is not an option one should try even for free. Servers seemed to be lost while suggesting their specialities. Asked captain Mr. Kamath to assist us & went ahead with placing entire order at once. It took loads of time before getting served. We were not told that Prawns Green Masala will be shallow fried/tawa fried. Turned out to be watery & soggy because prawns were marinated with green masala after getting fried. Prawns were not even cleaned properly. Due to our dissappointment, we ordered for additional Prawns Deep Fry. Only dish which we liked & all marks to its marination. Pomfret Ghashi was no were close to amchi standards or maybe our palate is used to having more authentic konkani food cooked at home or by our relatives. Anyways gravy lacked right proportion of tamarind in it. Neer Dosa was good but served cold.

CAN TRY - Prawns Deep Fry, Fresh Lime Soda, Neer Dosa.
LET DOWN - Prawns Green Masala, Pomfret Ghashi.

AMBIANCE - Simple decor which has a mix picture potrayal of our natives, culture, etc. Overall its just mediocre.

SERVICE - Servers are found often lost for suggestions. Captain Kamath ends up being their rescuer. It takes loads of time to firstly get served & finally taste disappoints you to the core.
