One must try their Garhwali Thali. The owner is welcoming, very friendly, and can customize food as per your dietary needs. We stayed at Bataghat and the restaurant is about 15 minutes walk. So after a heavy lunch (we overate as the food was delicious), all we needed was a short walk, and nothing could beat the walk in that picturesque, calm landscape on a sunny afternoon in December. The view overlooking the hills/mountains is equally mesmerizing. Many celebrities seemed to have visited the restaurant. I would highly recommend it to everyone wanting to try local authentic food in a quiet environment away from the chaos of a city.
A great place to try local authentic cuisine. The view here is gorgeous and the owners and staff are very attentive and friendly. The food came out amazing. The Stinging Nettle Kebabs are a must try (be cautious about the sauce they're served with - extremely spicy!)
Visit the Jabarkhet nature reserve for a walk and then come on down to this beautifully set place.
We ate the Garhwali thali (nettle saag, soup, mixed dal, potato sabzi, raita, bhang ki chutney, red rice and rotis). Really filling, reallllly tasty! Ashu (the proprietor) is extremely warm and took the time to introduce us to the local ingredients. Don't miss the nettle tikki! (be prepared for a very long walk from the char dukaan side of Landour, or take a cab). Also the view from the cafe is outstanding.
If you are looking to taste authentic Garhwali food then this is your place to be. Although the restaurant offers a broader menu of typical Indian food, however i would highly recommend the garhwali thali. It contains 8 items; Phanu (soup), mixed dal, kandali (stinging nettles vegetable), aloo thichwani (mashed potatoes curry vegetable), pumpkin/cucumber raita, red rice, mandwe ki roti, bhang ki chutney, jhanhore ki kheer.
We also tried rhododendron root fresh soda, on the recommendation of the chef. It was too sweet for me. However the rhododendron root flavour was exciting. I would recommend making it less sweet.
And finally, the ambience is spectacular. It's right on top of an uphill road. The seat next to the window is absolutely spectacular.
I would highly recommend a lunch at Hills-e-ishq.
Located very close to Jabarkhet natural reserve, this cafe is a natural part of the tour to the reserve. Serving sumptuous Garhwali food, it's a great and very healthy change from the sugar rush Landour bakeries provide. Try the Thali because it brings the best of everything. The owner takes personal interest in your experience and you can also pick up local spices to take home. Sit by the window for the view and keep a stick handy to deter the monkeys lest they share your lunch.
