I had come here for lunch with folks from my office. We were to first to arrive but people slowly started coming in. I was a little skeptical about the pure veg South Indian buffet, but it turned out to be pretty good. A good variety of food, desserts and beverages on the spread for the amount we had paid. The quality of food was good and it was light on the stomach.
The ambience of the place could improve as it looked a little dull even during lunchtime. Also, the way they served their starters needs improvement. You can't just bring one piece of paneer for every person on a table. At least bring an ample quantity so that if someone wants to have a little more, they will not have to wait for another 10 minutes.
The service, otherwise, was good and the staff was polite and courteous.
Overall, I'd say that SouthIndies is a good place with caveats. We purchased the vouchers from Nearbuy at a discounted price, but I wouldn't want to pay the price advertised here on Zomato.
I love South Indian food. And here is a restaurant with a twist. I loved the food. Especially the variety of rasams with poori ( pani poori style)
Service was good.
Didn’t like ambience. expected it to be more South Indian style. It wasn’t.
Price was ok considering it’s location.
I am very surprised at the comparatively low rating for this gem. I myself am rating it 4 instead of 4.5; I have cut 0.5 points for the basement parking (horrible- badly lit, smelly, musty, dirty) and toilets (smelly and not kept clean). But to turn to its food and that’s another matter. This is a underrated gem that more people should frequent.
To start with there were 5-6 types of starters all good in taste and presentation. – banana dosa, dahi vada, small idli, chilli bhaji, appe etc. The main course with 2-3 types of rice, sambar, dal and 2-3 types of vegetable dishes is consistently good in taste. Appams accompanying the food was wonderful. There was a reasonable spread of desserts; I only had ice cream with choc sauce. To end with was the filter coffee, the best I have tasted in Pune.
There are some shortcomings: I mentioned the parking and state of the toilet earlier. The staff is also not so great– they need to be more smart, attentive, more well-trained, vocal etc. I went on a weekday and the AC was shut, the place was stuffy, hot and musty; and not very well lit.
This place deserves better publicity, more customers and is simply one of the best deals in town; especially if you use one of the apps to buy its coupon. Bon Appetit!
Amazing buffet. starters, desserts, main course were amazing. excellent ambience and service. it is a must visit. gulkand roll in particular was amazing.
Nice place, visited here twice. First visit was a la carte but this time we opted for buffet spread.Whole lot variety of south indian recipes especially of kerala.
Food and service both are good.
Some of the items we had are gongura pickle, ginger pickle, different types of rasam in pani puri style, podi idli, barbequed paneer, biryani, fried potato, various main course dishes like appam, veg stew, tomato dal and lot more.
Nice experience, courteous staff and tasty food.
Great place for a authentic south indian cuisine lovers. I'm one of them and that's why the rating. Only thing which I find inconvenient is the ambiience and crowded space. Also many of the dishes are not included and one ends up eating dosa or uttapamam which aren't that south indian. This can especially be commented for uttapamam. The rasam, sambar and chutney are mouth watering. However one really finds difficult to like taste of other dishes due to lack of explanation. I hope things will change for good on my next visit to the restaurant.
Sumptuous South Indian cuisine. Not your usual light South Indian snacks centre. Good ambiance. Fair service. Did not get a la carte menu, but was fixed buffet only.
I love this place this is my third visit, I enjoyed the starter very much specially Dahi wada, grilled paneer & cutlet. Main course Hyderabadi biryani, tomato pappu & paneer curry with paratha is delicious & sweet Eleener payasam is my favourite. Good service & courteous staff.
I love this place, this is my third visit, starters are very delicious & the elneer payasam was amazing test is my all time favourite, you must visit south Indian restaurant once
This place is definitely underrated and deserves more appreciation.Have vistied this place couple of times, once for lunch(when we ordered ala cart) and once for dinner(we had buffet).
Both times,we were completely mesmerized by the authenticity of Kerala food which they are serving.Buffet has whole lot of varities and very delicious too.I personally liked sweet corn dosa in starters.Overall, almost everything which was served, was really very nice.Staff was very courteous and polite.
Must visit place for all south indian food lovers.
We booked a table in advance. The restaurant is very nice and the air conditioner functioned well. The starters we're exellent so was the rasam .the main food course has 3 types of rice and plenty of gravy dishes.
Sambar was good. The salads and desserts were nice too. You could have unlimited dosas and parotha.Ovr all a very nice experience after a long time.
Yummy south indian food. I think this has become my foto place for south indian food. They have buffay system and per head cost is average. Don't forget to ask bombay coffee in the end! They also have nice deserts.
Great dinner buffet, limited options but the food is really awesome. Innovative starters.Must try-Gol-gappa with variety of rasam(served only at dinner), coconut based veg stew with appam, paan payasam and worth mentioning filter coffee.
Ambience is okay.
Great food, awesome staff and peaceful decor. Daily starters also have a bit of twist like Manchurian idli and cheese idli. If you enjoy South Indian food then definitely give this one a try.
Southindies is an amazingly tasty and innovative South Indian food place. Its famous for its buffet. Serves delicious filter coffee too.
Innovation in the starters makes it very interesting for anyone, from any part of the world. The restaurant tries to cover all parts of South India.
Staff is helpful and courteous. The place has even got some high-chairs for children.
It's located in the new heart of the city, besides Pune Central near Pune University. It has got its own parking space in basement; valet parking is available free of cost.
Great place for South Indian Pure Veg food! 😊 Really glad to recommend this place... Lunch buffet here costs and ₹600/- per head... The food is delicious service is awesome... Environment is quiet and perfect for casual and business meeting... Great food variety, must visit place!
"Place closed on Sept 15, 2018."
Nice place to hangout. Very good and fresh food. They also had an offer of free food for one person on their Birthday. I had received SMS 2 days ago. Very nice gesture!
Nice and clean. If you desire to go for authentic south indian ..
Here you go.
The buffet spread is great and tasty.
The starters were amazing especially the arbi fry . The elaneer payasa too yummy.
Service very satisfactory .. with smiles .
Thumbs up
.. do visit
Good options in South Indian food.
Food is served hot.
Starters , drinks , main course all good.
People who reserve seats at allowed to sit in AC hall while those who dont book need to sit on the terrace which is quite hot specially in the afternoon.
Its an authentic South Indian Pure Veg. Food Restaurant. Its located on Pune University Road, next to Pune Central Mall, on first floor above, Little Italy restaurant.
They usually have prepaid buffet system, but sometimes they serve at the tables too. They offer awesome quality food. For lunch, it started with starters like appe, southindian gol gappe, fryums. followed by dosa, paneer veg, paratha. The banana chilada was very special. In the end they have curd rice and biryani.
One can have multiple quantities of deserts like payasam, milk items, etc. They are new in Pune, not many of know such place has opened here. They need to publicise a bit, before increasing the crowd, they will need to polish the waiters, and improve the service.
Overall, it was a very nice experience. Surely would like to go again, but on empty stomach, cause theres such a huge variety on offering. I hope this place stays in business for long and don't run away like other start-ups.
