One of the finest bakeries in the city. The product are freshly baked and are available at an affordable price. I've tried their buns, brownies, glass cakes, hazelnut biscuits, shrewberry biscuits. I must say their quite tasty.
Please do give a try if your in or around this place.
When a Mumbaikar wants biscuits this is where they head to. Indeed they are a favourite to the old-school addicts.
The low profile vintage bakery lies behind an unobtrusive green door in the narrow part of Main Street No exaggeration it has the best toast ( as they call it ) Khari, plum cake, milk bread in the entire country. May God keep these valuable priceless heritage venues alive for more generations
Qwality backers ! Fresh Products! Traditional backery products ! This is one of few British era Parsi run Backeries in Pune and one of the 5 original backeries of Camp with still the same taste! They make most of products daily which get over by evening.
The qwality is top class and rates pretty resonable. They still use oven run on wood rather than one on electric. Traditional backers products like Butter , toast , buns , Brun, sticks are still available here. Their range of cakes like plum cake and walnut cake are really a treatise! Bread is available both of standard slice type as week has milk bun.
All products are not available all time and most of products get sold off pretty quickly once they are made.
Qwality is more preferred to quantity and their traditional customers are pretty much loyal fans of their products. I have been broughtup in neighbourhood and even I am a one. I still miss its products when I am out of town.
Special products are available on Christmas Eve. Shrewsberry biscuits I would say just try them out!
To sum it all in all one line it is to get your tastebuds get a royal treatise of this Royal Bakery!
A truly iconic bakery that lives up to it's name. Their cakes- plain and choco walnut are unique. I personally prefer all their products over those from Kayani. Shrewsbury biscuit is probably the best in the country. The brun, bread, milk bread, toast, nut biscuits, cakes, everything is a 'Must Have'.
While Kayani is the most famous old Parsi bakery in camp area, the royal bakery has a class of its own.
The Khari out here is one of the better ones among the many bakeries in camp area. Very skillfully prepares flaky yet doesn't collapse when u dip in hot chai.
The milk bread is another legendary item here which most suitable for a healthy breakfast. However it's sold out on most hours.
The plum cake is another favourite.
The fan biscuit or sugar khari has many call didn't amaze me too much as suggested by others. Found it too pricy too for it and not worth at all.
Don't miss this fascinating old bakery if on MG Road.
**Cookies Alert***
The Royal Bakery at MG road is really tempting Irani bakery from ancient times!
This a famous for shrewberry cookies,Kharis and well known for "Milk breads"
Milk bread and shrewberry cookies is the speciality where from whole pune people come and eat❤️
Go and taste it's worthy to go!
Their are also variety of Namkins,Biscuits,Soft and fluffy breads!
As mentioned in a previous post most of Poona's old Parsi and Irani Bakeries have their own specialty - at Royal Bakery it's their Mawa Cake (yes it's better than Kayani), Milk Bread and the occasional sound advice given by the old Bawaji Uncle :)))
A great place for batasas anf khari biscuits. Love their Shrewsberry biscuits too, perhaps the best available ever ! One cannot miss the place on a rather busy end of M G Road. However, the bakery should also move on with the times, starting with accepting digital monies !
They make the best Batasa biscuits. The best. Families and people all over the country wait in desperation to get their hands on them again. Their Shrewsbury biscuits, Mawa cakes and Khari is also very good. If you've grown up eating these items, you will be overjoyed by the taste of the products from Royal.
Note: make sure to check their timings and make sure to get there early as their freshly baked stock gets over soon.
Very clean n pocket friendly baked goods. A must stop n shop before going to school n returning from school. Royal bakery run by generations .
Very nice quality brun, they are special known for this. We go there to buy this every Sunday.
Have been enjoying their choco-walnut and sponge cakes since last 13 years and have never been able to find a single fault or a change in the taste over the course of years. One bakery you could trust with your eyes closed.
Great milk bread ...only thing they only deal in cash ... no UPI
POONA : Of Broon, Bread and more!
When the Iranis came to Pune from Iran there were only two options in the job market that they could take up that didn’t require educational qualifications. One was becoming an hotelier and the other was becoming a baker. When Salamat Ardeshir Irani came to India he started out as a waiter in Kohinoor Restaurant. In Iran he was a wealthy person who had to let go of his wealth and start from scratch in Pune or Poona as it was known then.
After a couple of years of slogging and saving up he became a partner at the same hotel. No one knows what changed his mind but he discontinued being an hotelier. In 1914 he became a baker and started Royal Bakery. Slogging it out, undeterred at having lost his fortune in Iran, he baked a flourishing one in Pune. Royal bakery on MG Road is his success story.
Old timers remember way back in the 60’s Abdul, an employee of Royal Bakery who would come daily on a bicycle with a steel box on the carrier to deliver fresh bread and broon for almost 40 years.
The entire process of making their bread takes about seven hours and their secret is a wooden vat. The bread dough is kept inside the vat so that it ferments, rendering a distinct taste to the bread because of all the enzymes in action in the dough. This vat is not available nowadays making their bread much sought after.
Among the bakery’s fast selling bread is the milk bread or Milko Vita. Its packaging reads that it is the bread that lasts for 100 hours and keeps you fit for 100 years. It has a trademark registered number of 1291. The Irani family believes that they were not only the first in the city but the first in the country to prepare milk bread that too in the year 1947. This bread is a must try for the Jain population.
Some of the other delicious specialties of this family run bakery include cheese papri, badami biscuit, shrews bury biscuit and ginger biscuit along with plain cakes. Simply relish the melt in the mouth satiation that you experience when you eat the products. It is best to avoid calorie counting. The bhatti or furnace is fired using wood and that too imparts a special aroma to their products.
Royal bakery believes in eating and making little but doing so almost every day. That perhaps explains why their products are freshly prepared. The Irani wit comes into play when we are told that if we want stale stuff, we need to pay double the amount so that they can keep some leftovers for us.
From the beginning, letting their products speak for themselves has been this bakery’s policy. Their walking, talking (and eating) word of mouth customers seem more than happy to spread the aroma of the bakery all over Pune and beyond. So while the Irani family continues to overcome the challenge of finding and employing workers that agree to work in the bakery and that too near the furnace, we continue to deliciously flock here for our daily bread, biscuits and cake.
Historic bakery. It's a landmark in this part of town. The quality of its products have never changed. And that's the beauty of of this place in these times of new strange recipes and experiments with food making earlier memories of tastes disappear. Royal bakery stands out as victor in the competition of breads
