Enjoyed some me time at this restoration site and enjoyed the environment. The premise is squeaky clean...nothing like from 1875 when it was erected! Also nice to see people actually interested because this place has some superb artifacts with narratives that compliment the collection.A mix of mythology and history. Also met someone from the archeology department of the museum who was acting as a guide to a visitor...Private tours are organised for key visits.Would recommend spending time at the tribal art floor which is like a studio and will attract art lovers for sure...has a very vibrant feel. The art gallery alongside is only open for specific exhibition which is hosted. Photography is allowed in the museum but video is prohibited. They also have a collection of wild animals which have been preserved using chemicals. Overall a nice experience only if you are a history and art lover otherwise you might be bored...

A true heritage store of India. Entire Central India rule starting from the 10th century is revealed in the museum. The tribal communities and their lifestyle displayed very well. Felt proud of our cultural heritage and advancement in those decades. Jai Ho, India!

It is located in a walking distance from the Ghanta Ghar (well known landmark in the city). The entry ticket was Rs. 5 for Indian Citizen. The museum is fantastic and puts a great light on the rich history of Chhattisgarh and adjacent states. It has three floors, each floor showcases the different themes. Such as ground floor showcases the Photographs of nearby Temples and monuments, a gallery is there which exhibits the inscription of various rulers from different ages. The tools of stone age are also presented here. There is also lot of sculptures, statues, tools, pottery and seals of mediaeval period showcased. Similarly, the first floor showcases the paintings and folk dances of various states of India and also various weapons of mediaeval time period are presented here. And finally the third floor throws the light on the life style of tribal people and about their beliefs and worship. Overall It was wonderful experience, the staff there were also nice and welcoming.

Amazing place in the heart of the city. The museum was constructed in 1875 by Mahant Ghasidas the erstwhile ruler of Nandgaon Princely State. Is is among the oldest museumsin India. The place has pictures of all ancient temples in Chhattisgarh along with a magnificent picture of the Freedom Fighters of our state in the ground floor. Then there are a number of inscriptions and artefacts recovered from mining and explorations in ancient sites like Sirpur, Malhar, Jabalpur etc. There is also a namesake collection of weapons of traditional warfare. The topmost floor houses many cabinets and lifelike models displaying the rich tribal culture of Chhattisgarh. This place is a must visit site for CGPSC Aspirants. And yes the entry fee is just ₹5 pax there are no extra charges for clicking pictures with your phone but for carrying a camera you have to pay another ₹20 or so.
