Charcoal is a great place to spend your evening when you’re in Udaipur. The beautiful surroundings of Lake Pichola and the vistas of the city skyline are complemented by delectable food. They claim to serve authentic Mexican cuisine; although I’m not well-versed in authentic Mexican food I can assure you that the food is very tasty! I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the place.

Me and my friend didn’t like spicy and this was the perfect place where to eat something not spicy and really good. We went twice because it was really good, the rest of the food, the location everything was really good, they are just a bit slow regarding the service but apparently it’s common in India. Anyway if you are tired of Indian food and you want to something normal or not this is the right place

We ate here for lunch and then again for dinner the same day and had a great experience both times. Extensive menu of bbq/tex-mex/indian dishes - we had the paneer bbq platter, pineapple and paneer skewer, hummus mezze starter and fish tacos and were impressed with all of them. Lovely outdoor seating overlooking the lake for the evening and great service.

Me and my family waited till they resume restaurant at 5pm.. worth the wait... Ambience, food quality, taste and service all good...the owners are also friendly Try visiting at sunset, views overlooking lake Pichola are beautiful Both veg and non veg options available...we tried Laal Maas with rice and BBQ chicken wings tasted good We shall visit again,

I can say the best evening of udaipur at Charcoal by Carlsson. Food was lip-smashing and the best part was information provided by owner Mr. Shakti singh and best service provided by Chandraprakash. The ambiance is amazing we saw the best part of udaipur from the Charcoal roof top. Really a heartwarming experience for us . Thank you Charcoal team 😊.

Decided to visit after ready all the amazing reviews and I got to confirm that Charcoal is the best place for bbq meat! I went couple of times and tried the Lamb Souvlaki which is 10/10 and a lam curry too! Cocktails are pretty nice too! And the hospitality of the staff is super special thanks to Sagar. I also had the pleasure to meet Shakti, the owner, who is rightly very passionate and proud of his business. I feel like recommending this place and I'll go back for sure!

Ridiculously amazing - as an Aussie this bbq stood up to my high standards then beat them. The view is 10/10 and the food is outstanding (we mainly ordered skewers) if you’re in to smoky, charcoal, spicy flavours from across the world.

5 on 5 for me. Food was tremendous and reasonable. Atmosphere was perfect with amazing view of pichola lake, went for IND vs NZ WC23. Service was awesome and believe me the owner and his son were so down to earth people that they did not even showed us a little bit of attitude even in taking our order multiple times. O my god this place is very nice . We just went casually but we had a best experience. We definitely give it more than 5 rating if we have a chance. The food is very delicious . I recommend to it to couples .the environment is too good. The servers are very friendly we became friends in just a time ....

I am a writer and if I do not write about Charcoal I'll be doomed! Here is why. I won't comment much about the food because the food is already impressive and on point, and people have said enough. Be it quality or quantity along with the beautiful, mesmerising night view, ohh! the restaurant in Udaipur is a must-visit. My overall visit to Udaipur wasn't so good, but Mr. Shakti the manager of Charcoal Restaurant was an angel. After dinner we were late to head back to our hotel and the autos were charging us over the top. Mr Shakti took us on his two wheeler dropped the two of us to a certain point and helped us get auto in the middle of the night. Kudos to such human beings. Give this man a raise 🥂 ! Thank you!

You have to be here once if you’re in Udaipur. You’ll love the atmosphere here. I loved their playlist - you can find it on YouTube music by their name. I must say the playlist and drinks together will make your day - cherry on top their food and staff is amazing. Try their chicken tangdi kebab you’ll love it. Also compared to other places here this restaurant has good variety at comparatively affordable rates.

A very good roof top restaurant with excellent view of ghats.

We went there for a lunch, their rooftop restaurant is on 4th floor and one has to take stairs which is bit difficult for aged people as stairs are also uneven. View from restaurant is awesome but restaurant itself is small and cannot cater more people. We ordered fish tikka, chicken biryani, aalu gobhi, fresh lime soda and tawa roti. Biryani was very spicy, fish tikka was fresh and nice. Aalu gobhi was not up to the mark. Overall, good experience as view is nice.

They don't know what is food, I am an hotelier please take this review seriously, I ordered for Bruschetta but as you see my attached photo it's just a bread with chopped tomato on top with no seasoning and flavour. I recommend please don't consider this restaurant for food there are so many options around even if you eat road side that is better then their food .<br/>When I asked them to call restaurant manager nobody turned up.<br/>Again and again I request to everybody who read my review please don't even think of this restaurant.

Perfect sunset view and ambience. Awesome dishes served on expected time. And the owner of the place were too polite and cooperative. The staff was cooperative as we were little confused about what to order but they explained about the dishes and we were pleased to eat what they offered us... Especially loved the Chicken Chipotle and Chicken Taco.

Excellent food please try their western offerings, in traditional Rajasthani dishes please try Lal maas and safed Maas. The owners bring a personal touch in their interactions which make the experience even better. Best part is the view of dazzling lake Pichola in the evening when the reflections from the surroundings make it a dream come true. A perfect place for a candle light romantic dinner.

The ambience is perfect and so is the food quality and portion.Zomato Gold cannot be used on their Barbeque Items and a couple of other things.However it is worth a visit.Best is to go post sun down.

I tried chicken hot wings and oriental hot skewers. The chicken wings were okay but in oriental hot skewer the lamb was uncooked and chewy. Overall my experience was, this restaurant has good ambience but lacks in quality food.

Went to get some relaxation as they offer one of the best if not the best Ambience in town. Loved the view, service is quick. Ordered Pot of Masala tea alongside Grilled Sandwich and waffles. Food was nice. Basically it's known for their Barbeque food which I will try for next time definitely.

We ordered Pork tacos, Lal Maas and Dal bati Churma. Pork tacos were fine, Lal Maas and Dal Bati was very good. Nice ambience. Service was very slow. Took them one hour to serve us pork tacos. Overall a decent place.

This is the worst restaurant in Udaipur. The most uncourteous staff. The soup, quesadilla and tacos were shit.

The restaurant is on 4th floor and the only way to access is via rounding stairs. The view from restaurant is good. Food is ok - did not look very hygienic at all. The BBQ is available in evening only. The contact number given is not reachable at all.

Amazing top to view the whole city by the lake. Loved its cake in a cup. The rates were economical and the taste was yumm. Most importantly the paneer chipotle, more than amazing. It was something different i had ever tasted. A must visit place in the lakecity.

Vegetarian food was good but non vegetarian dishes especially chicken was not very good. All chicken items were chewy and half cooked. We ordered 3 chicken starters and 2 main course.

I do not recommend. We’ve been there on our first night in Udaipur, we ordered 1 paneer masala, 1 grilled tandoori chicken and 1 lassi and ended up sick in bed for the next 2 days. Even after 4 days we have not completely recovered so I would bet on a really poor hygiene.

One of the best rooftops and most authentic grill and kababs. Zabardast good nad great views. Arabic food was sensational as well. A bit expensive but quite worth the price. You will enjoy this!

Terrific food, great views, cool vibe. Have loved every visit to this rooftop gem. Getting here takes effort - elderly people, please be aware it is a fair climb up. But, it is worth it! Their mezze platter, the olive naan, tandoori kebabs - all top notch! Add to it the ambience and views and you have a winner. Consistently excellent!

This place is hyped up for no reason. The best they could do was papad. Totally unreasonable.<br/>No proper customer service provided and no water either.

Good place to sit and the from from the top is pretty amazing. however, the service is really bad. You literally have to call them every time for even water. They were least interested in serving Indians which is a common thing in Udaipur. The food is quite okayish as the gravy for Lal Maans and Butter Chicken was exactly the same.

Best priced restaurant in the area. Taste wise I have deducted the points, tried tandoori chicken, chicken wings and Lal Maans. Lal Maans was quite average, rest all were quite good. Ambience makes up for the average taste though :)

We loved the ambience, service and in principle the hospitality. The Cheese garlic naan is too good and worth mentioning. Food is average however could be much better. The team out there takes good care and even bought us shawls went the temperature dipped in the night. Must visit for the ambience.

Was on a short vacay to Udaipur and this place was suggested by a friend.<br/>It has a lovely setting overlooking the lake and the palaces, with delicious food and drink.<br/>However, reaching the restaurant can be a little hard especially for someone new to the City ; We had worked up quite an appetite with all the walking that we did !<br/>Service was good and the Manager was very courteous and ensures that all the guests are being looked after. Offered us blankets which was a welcome relief for us ,who were not used to the nippy weather.<br/>Overall, had a relaxed , enjoyable and comforting dinner experience.<br/>Highly recommend it 👍<br/>Cheers to the Team !<br/>

The food here is really good and the view is amazing. But, the service needs a lot of improvement. The menu says "Scotch", but the waiter didn't know which brands are available. Really weird considering they had just 1 option. Someone had puked near the table after having few too many, but the staff didn't bother getting it cleaned for atleast 15 mins.

I went to this place for an afternoon lunch and had chicken skewers which was quite amazing. Although there weren't any tandoor options available as the restaurant doesn't serve tandoor items during the day. You'd have to climb up many stairs to reach on the roof top. But it was worth it because the food was so good.

Went yesterday nite. Awesome view. Only thing u have to walk 4 floors. Tried paneer tikka, tastes good n but drinks are not chilled, that spoiled the mood.

The place was very average. Both ambience and food. Nothing very special. Not something you want to especially go to at the end of the day, but can have if you have no other option (which isn’t the case since there is a plethora of places around).

This place is was suggested by a local friend and turned out to be a place one should must visit when in Udaipur.<br/><br/>The food is good, including both veg and non veg. They make small customization to orders on your suggestions. They almost daily change the today's special and it's good to taste those. Be it barbeque or continental food, everything is nice.<br/><br/>Service is fast and prompt. Except the fact that few things take time to cook, overall it's a place to visit.<br/><br/>It has a nice ambience, overlooking the lake palace and other beauties of the city.<br/><br/>Cost wise it's not that tight on the pocket and a good place to hangout with family and friends.<br/><br/>Only negative thing about this place is, it has a very small seating capacity and in the noon time you can't go because they don't have any curtains or blinds to save you from the scorching heat.

The lamb skewers (2) and tomato skewer provided by this dish are very delicious. They're served with the in-house made tzatziki sauce, which is quite very good! Also provided a flatbread to eat the meat and tomatoes with - along with some nice hot sauce that they make in house. I asked for something hotter...it still wasn't as hot as I'd like, but it was very delicious.  <br/>The impact of the Greeks on Udaipur is evident in much of the city - including the architecture. Several restaurants offer Greek dishes.<br/><br/>Absolutely fabulous service by the staff here!!! This is another rooftop restaurant here in Udaipur, so providing some wonderful views of the lake and surrounding city.  <br/><br/>Would definitely visit again!!!

I regret stepping foot there. Poor ambience, poor quality of food. It felt like a cheap dhabha. Moreover one has to climb 4 flight of stairs to reach the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The grilled food here is amazing and grilled recipes are a must. The sitting area faces the Lake Pichola as well as Lake Fatehsagar, so needless to say, view is superb. Though it's not very spacious. Service is pretty quick and thus it's a must visit for any grilled food lover. Cheers! :)

I was expecting much more than this place has to offer. Seating arrangement wasn’t comfortable at all. Service was too slow. Beverages were alright. We ordered tea and raspberry margherita. Then we had mushroom and paneer skewers. Due to slow service, I didn’t want to have anything else because we were already late. These skewers could have been way more good. <br/>Non vegetarians have too many options to eat, vegetarians, find something else.

A great place to have your dinner with a beautiful view of lake pichola and the other side of old city. Amazing ambiance where you can have candle light dinner. Food is very delicious unlike other old city cafes/restaurants.<br/>Although, the order taker is not knowledgeable here, he asks everything to the manager/owner about each and every food item. A little improvement will save the time of the customers.

The place definitely provides a soothing ambience. Situated approximately between Jagdish Mandir and Gangaur Ghat in Udaipur, the restaurant serves veg and non veg delicacies in Indian and Continental cuisines. The view from the top is serene and will surely calm your nerves. A glass of beer with fries are a delight. The Rajasthani gatte ki sabzi can be tried here along with missi roti. Prompt service adds to their positives. I'm going to rate it 4/5 for the ambience. It is an absolute delight.

The food was authentic and flavour rich. Try the hawai panner if you are a veggie. The most important thing was the view of the restaurant. Sangria wasn’t what we call a real sangria, apart from this, it a must go place.

There's a good ambience and the view is great. The service is quite slow. However, I think that this is a decent option in Udaipur. <br/><br/>The pork souvialki was good, though not like a souvialki. The veg tacos weren't good. The chicken and paneer Chipotle kebab was decent but didn't have a lot of Chipotle. French fries didn't have salt.

Great service and food at great price. Must visit restaurant. We have ordered chicken tandoori which was very tasty and spicy. Also we have ordered paneer butter masala which was so buttery delicious.

Just wao, the best food in entire Udaipur trust me. Rest all are just for the name, they are actually cooking and serving. I had chicken Chipotle, one amazing variety and the biryani, I can't tell how good it was. I was genuinely craving for actual good food in Udaipur since a while and finally I thought to try this place and it stood true to every penny. Loved every bit of food, view, and of course the service, he was just too warm. Definitely recommended to all nonveg lovers for sure.

The prime location n serving are amazing without saying.The service is good suntil it's nearly 10pm or rush otherwise clumsy.Yeah the bar menu is amazing and food menu has also a good peak into dishes .The veg food is comparatively to be preferred over nonveg especially laal Maas which is just overhyped.Romantic dinner is what you should look for here

The view from the restaurant is amazing, u get to see the entire lake pichola in the lights. The menu consists of only a very few veg dishes and the ones which were available didn't sound that interesting.<br/>The Breezer that we took was stale. The experience at such a highly rated restaurant wasnt that pleasant at all.

Ambience was very good. Specially at night with little fog and slight breeze.. Food was delicious and worth spending every single rupees from my pocket. Try Keema baati, falafal and chicken Chipotle..all these dishes we had in our dinner and it was perfect for four of us. Must visit...

Found a bug in my food, they said it is possible due to rains. The staff was rude and the food quality was very bad and overcooked. Give this place a miss. Udaipur is known for way better places for scrumptious food who know the real meaning of hospitality

Had a wonderful time in Charcoal with my family from France. They have a fantastic rooftop with a view on both the city palace and the lake which is ideal to admire the sunset. <br/><br/>The restaurant is small and very cozy. We are an Indo/French couple and we loved the international ambience of Charcoal, indeed customers were from all over the world. You immediately feel comfortable. <br/><br/>About the food, their barbecue and sauces are spot on. Their mojito is delicious. I have kept the best for the end....do not miss their fantastic deserts! Cake in a cup is a chocolate fondant topped with an ice cream topped with caramel and they have some wonderful waffles! Since i live in India they are the BEST waffles I had!! Everything is fresh, homemade, tasty and you will leave this place satisfied and smily!<br/><br/>The son of the owner is very welcoming, happy to discuss with customers, exchange experiences and make sure everything is going well. You feel comfortable and just like at home.<br/><br/>I forgot to say that the service is prompt what is not usual in Udaipur!!<br/><br/>Thank you so much for the great dinners we had there. I absolutely enjoyed it and i recommend it blindly. This restaurant is definitely on my roadmap next time i am in Udaipur!

The restaurant needs to be clear when they are open and when they are shut .. perhaps the timings on zomato are wrong ! Great view from terrace though .. on the left you have Jagdish temple , right is your beautiful lake and right ahead is city palace ..and food is really awesome.

Quite popular restaurant in Udaipur. The view is really romantic and beautiful in the night. We ordered for Tacos, Chicken Biryani and Chicken Tikka. Everything tasted extremely delicious and a must visit for those who love flavors.

By far the best place for food, drinks and a good time in Udaipur. You pay for the view at most of the places in the older parts of Udaipur, however, this one excels in food as well. Been here a couple of times now and neither the food nor the view has been disappointing. The staff is helpful and friendly as well. Definitely recommend this one.

The ambiance is pleasant. Views are good and the cozy candlelight setting is a plus. The Hot Skewers were ok. The spicy Keema baati was delicious. Cake in a cup - yum. Didn't mind the SEB puri either.

I ate here twice and loved it both times. The menu has everything from Indian food to Mexican, Italian and Mediterranean. The prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend.

During our 3 day stay in the lovely city of lakes we visited this place on the last night and was one of the most memorable one. <br/><br/>The resturant is tucked in the main bazaar in Chandpole area just a 5min walk from the famous Jagdish temple. The resturant is a roof top and you need to climb good 4floors to get to the place. Once up the view is mesmerising as you can see the City palace and the Lake Pichhola lit up during night time. <br/>The resturant is dimly lit by candles and dim lights and light music plays in the background 🎶 which altogether makes the ambience quite romantic. There are wall hanging traditional cushioned seats and chairs. <br/>Now coming to the food we had ordered paneer Satay which was a paneer skewers served with special peanut sauce with mild flavour of 🌴coconut and mild chilli 🌶 We also ordered Quesadilla which was filled with paneer corn and beans, they serve this with chipotle aioli and pico de gallo. <br/>The paneer Satay had a nice texture and was grilled perfectly and had a good taste. Quesadilla was perfect too and mouthwatering. For desert we ordered cake in a cup as it was highly recommended and it turned out to be true. <br/><br/>I would definitely recommend this one if you are in Udaipur and want good food with great view. <br/><br/>Tip:- Go with prior booking as the resturant has a small sitting area and if you want a table with a view you need to book.

Came for the tacos and was not disappointed. Since part of my family are from Mexico I instantly reacted to the board outside the hotel where charcoal is situated. Tacos? In Udaipur? I was pleasantly surprised when the food came and I could see the hand made soft corn tortillas and not the poor American crunchy substitute (no, a crispy shell is not a taco) and even happier when I tasted the soft, tender slow cooked pork. They also managed to serve up decent margaritas! The Swedish (!) Chef told me they are working on a new menu with many more Mexican items. I really hope I some day can come back and see how they progress!

The food was pathetic. Hot and sour soup was inedible. The paneer and mushrooms in the skewers were not fresh and not tasty at all. Didn't have the courage to order anything more. The only thing good was that they didn't charge for the horrible soup.

We went there twice as it was sooooo goood....Tried the baba ganoush : the olive bread is a dream, tried a lot of different meats: skewers (satay is wonderful), stuffed chicken leg (with cashew and mince) was delicious, the cocktails are nice, the wine also, we tried one dessert : chocolate cake in a cup with caramel sauce : we still dream of it....

Absolutely LOVED the place!<br/><br/>The food was really good and the service was also great! <br/><br/>Had Chicken Chipotle Tikka for starters. It was very well cooked and spiced!<br/><br/>Next, had Chicken Tinga Tacos. Lip-Smackingly Brilliant!!!<br/><br/>Had Cake in a Cup for dessert. Though I was full but I could easily have 2 of those!!! It was a fantastically made chocolate cake with Nutella filling and vanilla ice cream on top. <br/><br/>I would strongly suggest this place to anyone looking out to try something different. Would especially recommend this place to all the couples out there.<br/><br/>Just one thing though, call and reserve a balcony spot in advance cause that's where you get the view!

Also know as Charcoal by Pratap , we saw their display sign while roaming around the lalghat bylanes. It was also suggested by the host of our hotel. We decided to visit there for dinner. It is just 2 mins walk from the jagdish temple or lake palace. Mind you need to climb up 4 floor before you reach this rooftop restaurant. I would recommend you to corner seats which offer you great view of pichola lake. <br/><br/>We ordered skewers which came with 2 sticks of chicken and 3 sticks of paneer. While paneer wala excellent , chicken was bit to bland. We should stuck to their kebabs. But their delicious veg biryani made it up for the skewers. Biryani full of taste and freshly prepared.

Went there last year. Very beautiful view . We ordered vegetable grill platter. It was delicious and reasonably priced. I believe it was charcoal by pratap bhawan earlier.

Great vibes, great views, and incredible food. Also super great for those of us who are allergic to gluten and simply cannot find a break in very gluten free unfriendly udaipur. Love this place and have visited multiple times for a chill evening of delicious food, drinks and company. Highly recommend this place.

The guy who was attending us was not at all friendly. Didn't even help us in ordering the food. He just said whatever you feel is good I'll get that for you. <br/><br/>I don't recommend this place. <br/>

Very nice ambience and lovely view of Lake Pichola. The staff is very positive and the service is prompt. The choice of grilled food is wide and awesome. A lovely and sumptuous evening at "The Charcoal".

Vide variety available in the menu and it's speciality BARBEQUE is worth trying ,it's a 4 on 5. Nice ambience ,calm surrounding is what I loved the most.

I recently found this app while trying to find something different to eat in India after weeks of travelling. I love Indian food and this place surely delivers great Indian cosine, but what really caught my attention the first of our visits was the barbecue and tandoor. So far we have tried and loved the souvlaki, chicken roulade and the fantastic chicken chipotle tikka - a marriage made in heaven! Indian food dressed in Mexican flavours! Don't miss the delicious brownie, cake in a cup or the crispy round apple and caramel filled bites. Needless to say, we booked a table for tonight as well!

Loved the food and the ambience. Quite a climb to the restaurant but worth it. Good food, the view and hospitality takes it all. Thanks Henriech and Laura for keeping up the old school hospitality alive.
