Review Baati Chokha - Varanasi

What a delightful surprise to find this totally ठेठ authentic Banarasi/UP food! All deliciously served in generous proportions, in a wonderful setting of traditional ambience. A must for all lovers of classical, traditional, regional cuisine visiting Varanasi

I went here for an early lunch on recommendation of a friend and loved it. The experience is very good. Traditional style dining. At the entrance they have traditional ghee churning, grinding of masala and aata etc going on. I took the bati choka thali for 375. They gave 2 chutneys and some pakodas. I loved the chutney. Pakoda was decent. Then there is bati (2 varities - sattu and paneer filled) and choka which were both very tasty. Simple Dal to go with it. Followed with Kheer and Buttermilk. Overall good was very nice. Staff need some training though. They just rush through serving food and don't bother to stop to answer questions. I tried this for first-time and wanted tips on best way to eat, what each item was etc...they didn't both to explain. They just quickly serve and run away. Tip - on entry there are two sections of the restaurant. Try the thali system...second one which is after the parking lot. Another interesting thing is there is a handloom and weaving center. Banarasi silk saries were being weaved and I heard that the place sells good quality stuff there.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this hidden gem of a restaurant, and I can't stop raving about it! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the unique charm and delicious local flavors. The menu offered a delightful surprise with a special combo of Litti Chokha that left my taste buds in awe. The flavors were simply authentic, and it's clear that the chef knows how to make this traditional dish shine. The sumptuous combo option was a perfect choice for those like me who wanted to savor the best of local cuisine. What sets this restaurant apart is not just the food but also the ambiance. The retro-style seating arrangements add a touch of nostalgia that makes dining here an experience to remember. It's a perfect blend of modern comfort and old-world charm. The menu is a treasure trove of local delicacies, offering a wide range of options for every palate. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. If you're looking for an exceptional culinary journey through local flavors, set in a unique and inviting atmosphere, this restaurant is a must-visit. I can't wait to return for another memorable meal. Highly recommended for foodies and anyone looking to explore the true essence of local cuisine with a touch of retro elegance!

The atmosphere is nice, with interior having village theme, service is bit slow if it is too crowded, the Chhachh, chokha and tomato chutney and kheer taste great, rest things are okay type in taste. It is alright to visit once.
Kalpit Prajapati
The food was awesome but it was equally over priced. The taste was authentic the ambiance was mesmerizing and i would highly recommend anyone visiting varnasi to try this place at lease on e. But still i would say charging 450₹ for baati chokha is too much.
Parul Jauhari
Very pretty place with great authentic Bihari food and rural decor. We had litti chokha, kadhi chawal, kalaunji, dal handi, and all were amazing. And it was the smallest accompaniments which made all the difference— the tamatar chutney, lassi and chaach were AMAZING. The food is served in eco-friendly pattal (leaf) plates and drinks in mitti kullads. If anything, I'd strongly urge the restaurant to add more staff and speed up their service. However, must try place if you go or are in Varanasi.

This is a famous Desi style restaurant in Varanasi. You will feel the experience of villages. You will be sitting on the floor and the food will be served in traditional style. Two sides of the restaurant where in one you will have option to order food per your choice and pay per billing amount and in another side you will have to pay per person.
rashmi pendharkar
The food is good and the atmosphere is nice but they serve sweets only once which I don't like as rates are heavy. But must try
Kripa Kami
This place serves not just the authentic bati chokha but also the Banarsi vibe. This has a shop and various machineries at the ground floor and thr restaurant is at the 1st floor.

Everytime I visit Varanasi, I go to this place. And I always have the same special litti chokha thali. Costs just 290 and is capable to fill you up till dinner. Just make sure whenever you visit this place you have enough space. Now coming to the contents of thali. It have one paneer and one sattu bati. They are big and heavy, plus the ghee served will fill you up. Plus the onion tomato etc chutney and green chutney will add flavour to it. The daal is just simple yet full of flavours, have it with rice and ghee and you will enjoy the simple yet elite taste.. To end with tasty kheer is there. Plus the ambience is good and matches to a village theme. The only disappointing part is their service which is slow and can irritate you at times.. Rest everything is good.

I love this place food was so delicious if you are looking some thing desi and tasty food must try

Food was excellent, service was little bit late, I had to wait for 20-30 mins and lastly atmosphere was awesome. Great place to visit with family or friends. I really loved it.

Nice place if you are looking for traditional banarasi and bihari food. They serve thali system only. With one option of litti chowka thali and another one is roti sabji thali. Prices are 394/- per person including taxes. Vibe is quite good. Although they can improve on the portion part of the vegetables.
Baradwaj Ravi Gopal
Very unique ancient traditional stuffed Baati different from the one available in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Freshly baked. Very Hardy and rustic.
Oh_m_hungry
This place have a different Vibe altogether very desi very authentic. They serve desi traditional food which is vegetarian and maximum things like grains, ghee and vegetables they grow on their own. So you will get to eat organic food here. sitting is Indian style. I loved their food and presentation. First time i tried Batti chokha n it was quiet interesting. I cnt forget the tastw of their moong daal halwa guys its to die for. Only one thing that i didnt liked was portion size. I wish they serve a lil more. But Whenever you visit Varanasi please visit this restaurant for amazing experience. Thank you.

Food is delicious.
Ambience is really nice and unique.
But this time it really pissed me off.
They don't have any proper provision in case of huge rush. Worst management ever seen in any restaurant. There is no token system. Its like you have to wait and occupy seats by yourself. There excuse was festive occasion and less staff.,which obviously is unacceptable because it's only during festival when I visit Varanasi.
Concept is really unique but they cant cater a huge crowd.
Shweta Sahai
Insane food. Very quick service. Worth it. Great experience and ambience. Bakheer is a must try.

Nice place to hangout obviously with ur frnds and family closed ones. They come with the best village type scenes and sitting, serving, food which is very nice. One must visit once 😊
Ambience is nice.

Limited food, Little bit expensive and service was bit slow

went to the restaurant due to good reviews in Zomato and i was not disappointed. It was a very different food. We were 4 of us and we ordered different stuff and it was a good experience. the Ambiance was good the food was tasty and fresh. One suggestions is that for someone who does not know the food they need to explain better instead of just giving the menu card. Thought the menu was in English you need to know what a Bhaati means ;) and how to order the combinations. Sorry to complain but pls try when you are in Varanasi. Excellent food.

If in Varanasi do visit this restaurant. On the recommendation of our cab driver visited this place. He was full of praises when we suggested this authentic traditional joint.

It was worth a visit and will highly recommend.

Came here with family for dinner. We had ordered Combo meal Special Baati Chokha. This is similar to a Thali meal.

Ambience 4.1 out of 5.0
Food 4.0 out of 5.0
Service 3.9 out of 5.0

Chutney to the sweet dish all were yum and rich in flavor.

Ample vehicle parking space is available.
Shikhar Dwivedi
Their quality was good before but they have really degraded it to a level not that they shame the authenticity of the the dish . Just enough for trying once because you won't go again .
AMAN KEDIA
The place has a great feel. The ambience is village like. It gives a surreal feeling. They serve amazing bati chokha. They have a few options if thalis from where you can opt for. The food however is a little overwhelming even for a foodie like me. Too much towards the end. Moong dal halwa should be the dessert to have. Also, they have restrictions in terms on number of pieces of pakodas they will serve and the NUMBER IS 2, I didn't like and appreciate that at all.

Baati chokha needs no introduction as the restaurant has been serving in varanasi from quite a long time and people love their stuffs...Bati chokha is a typical Indian cuisine with no Western modification being done and that's what makes it so fulfilling...

I went to their thali section{kind of buffet} in which you are made to sit and they serve you items one by one just like you have meal at home in which your mother serves you every dish with love...They have got 3 to 4 types of thali{combos}..You need to select which one you want and the dishes included in it will be served to you...I had their bati chokha thali in which I was served:
1. Sattu baati
2. Paneer baati
3. Chokha
4.Dal
5.Rice
6.Chutney{2 types}
7.Mattha
8.moong dal halwa and kheer

Each dish tasted so well but their deserts were just outstanding...They were so flavourful and I recommend everyone to end your meal with their deserts whenever you go there...Large seating area with village themed decors and furniture...Courteous staff and quick service..
Ritu Kothari
Service was so bad. All things were served miserly, even after repeated request to get at least hot dal was not heeded. Menu says options in dessert but was not offered

Didn't get the hype about it! The only thing I actually liked was the dhaniya mirchi ki chatni that's it. The baati was okayish. Nothing stood out for me. The ambience was fine.

Went to this place as someone suggested. The ambience is of a village with charpoys in the centre. The food was not good, didnt met with the expectations. Also, the cold drink costs Rs. 24 for 200 ml including Establishment Charges. Would not recommend this place to others. Overall, really bad experience
Anant Kediya
The perfect place to try baati-chokha. The food is extremely authentic. The ambience is in tandem with the cuisine served and the place is extremely clean, inspire of being packed with people throughout the day.
Since the food is made in mustard oil, it hits a bit (totally worth it). The desserts were a bit disappointing. The choorma could see a lot of improvement.

I visited this restro as I find it bit famous here but food was really bad ! I ordered complete thali but only thing I could find good is buttermilk!

True essence of baati and chhokha... The thali is a perfect combination of a variety of dishes. The taste is perfect and the service is impeccable.
Ambiance - 4/5
Taste- 4/5
Service - 4/5

It was our pleasure to have the typical food of Varanasi.... Really relished each bite..... Only problem was the people managing guests seems to be in hurry but that also being weekend and rush hour.... I must say the dinner experience was a memorable one

A had great time at this place with my boys! The food was very nice, a lots of different things to try. Both the baati options were very nice and the kheer was to die for.
Decent prices at 250/- per thali, would definitely visit again.

Baati chokha , the real love of every UP and Bihari . We have ordered baati, chokha , daal, rice, kheer from baati chokha which was super tasty and also affordable . I liked the kheer most

Good local ambience, great traditional food. Choka was the killer dish. Bati variations of paneer is hit with kids. Love to back again. Awesome experience for the money
Kushal Agarwal
Well not been to this place, but have ordered food from here.
The food quality is good and tasty.
Packing is very nicely done.
The only problem is delivering of wrong item I ordered sattu baati and they delivered paneer baati and that played the spoiler to perfect dinner plans. So I request you in case you run short of things customer has ordered please have the guts and sincerity to check with the customer so that they feel privileged that the restaurant has taken care of your needs.
Awsm place to have family dinner ... value for money ... lill complaints that i have is staff was a lill inattentive and some of the baatis were over cooked and some were undercooked.. rest taste was bang on and would definitely visit again.

Being a Kashi niwasi I went home for 3 days and was looking at lot of bloggers on insta posting about this place, so visited with my family during evening for dinner. Baati chokha holds a very unique place in our family during winter season get together of our family we go for this dish, even during college times once in a year all our friends used to prepare this dish in authentic way.

Starting with the ambiance, they have a huge space and lots of different seating style which varies from traditionally to modern dining table. As I entered the are where they only served thalis (like buffet system) and started serving in traditional leaves. Starting from baati made up paneer and sattu with lots of ghee on the top, chokha, daal, some fritters (paneer pakode and plain), onions, green chillies and some varities of chutneys.

Paneer baati was new for me as I never tried that and was good in taste, normal baati was really heavy, fritters were good, daal I thought should be have little bit more tadka as initially when it was hot, tasted good but once it become little cold there was no taste.

Overall Its great family place plus Varanasi is more like a spiritual place where lot of foreigners visit so make them aware of the tradition in quite a modern way. Price wise I think it's little bit too high but been a good experience. Should be visited at least once.

Delicious homely food with super friendly staff in an earthy ambience which feels very genuine and not artificially put up. Ordered the popular special baati combo which got me two baatis(sattu and paneer) , bharta, chutney, daal , rice and ghee with kheer ,most of them served in clay pots. The baatis has the smokey touch with generous filling which was moderately spiced while the daal was very basic with red chillies and garlic tempering .Adding ghee on top made the whole affair much more satisfying and filling. The kheer though served in very limited quantity was the perfect ending nevertheless to an overall great experience.

I have an absolute love for this place!
Though, I had visited here so many times but yesterday I visited here first time after being a blogger!
I came here with my family (an absolute family restaurant for sure).
Purely vegetarian place.
Authentic village like ambience which gives such a great and homely feel !
Amazingly arranged seatings (you can have a seat like a proper village culture, though they have tables and chairs as well)

There is no second thought for food !
Super delicious vegetarian food is served with love !
That Baati-Chokha (especially, the Chokha) is super yumm! Accompanied with Green chutney, Onion dices, Fried chillies etc. along with Chaas (Sour buttermilk) that makes the platter more delicious.
Rice and Daal is also served, which really makes the entire meal complete !
By the way, daal and baati are served by pouring pure desi ghee over it ! (And, that's heaven in taste)
And at last for cherry on cake Kheer/Moong daal ka halwa is served!

It was a pleasant experience at bati chokha, trying the authentic east UP village spread served as a thali. In the thali they serve 1 regular and 1 paneer bati (litti), dal, few veg starters, chokha, two types of chutnies and rice. In sweets one can have either khir or mung dal halwa or churma. My recommendation will be to go for d khir. All items are traditionally prepared such as the bati and dal were cooked from dried cow dung cake fire. All the sweets are prepared from jaggery. Over all food was quite good but most enjoyable part was the authentic experience of having the lavish village spread . Ambiance is good. Service could have been a little more prompt.
Puja Deb
Traditional village set up.. dal and baati made in traditional way. Lovely place for food and photography. I loved the seating also. The baati chokha meals are good but heavy. The snacks( dal pakori, paneer papad pakora and phara) were brilliant. Assorted chutneys were served along with the food. Paneer baati & sattu baati complimented their baingan chokha well. Rice & dal were so comforting to the palate. Best were the desserts- moog dal halwa & kheer. They dont use sugar but gur which enhances the taste. Pricing is reasonable. Service is not so prompt but yet warm. Must visit place in Varanasi

this restaurant made me realise after along time what is feels like to feel full but still want more . This place is a must visit for someone visiting Varanasi. the decor, the food , the service everything is great about this place.

So much good food options to chose from, the core item being baati chokha . They have special baati with paneer fillings as well.

Spl baati chokha thali - if you do not want to confuse in the menu items this is the way to go with baati chokha Daal rice various chutneys n salads.

Kadi chawal- surprise winner Item on the menu, the kadi tasted heavenly with the right mix of spices and flavours

Fala - fried / steamed - this was something new I tried here . It’s a local snack. Not so great in my opinion but can’t really comment as I tried it first time.

Food - 5
Service - 5
Ambience - 5

Great food, incredible ambiance, it’s sort of a cross between a restaurant and a dhaba so it looks good.
Food feels healthy and hearty served in ample amount but here is the catch - they say it’s unlimited but it’s actually not.
The starters are limited and you can’t ask for it again and so are the deserts. Taking half a point off for not clarifying that and taking off another half a point for the service being just average. Not bad but just average, the waiters were slow and took their own happy time to serve you.
But having said all that you all must go here, it’s an experience and it’s totally worth it.

Jai Hind

Had such amazing Daal Baati in a very long time. Staff is very polite and sweet. Kadhi chawal and Kheer is also very delicious. The ambience and service is astounding. Must visit in Banaras.

This is a must eat if you're in Banaras. This place has some of the best litti chokhas I've ever eaten. The chokha is just perfect if you're an outsider. Their thali is the best of all worlds. And the best part is that it's light on your pockets.

If you going to Varanasi, toh yahan jana toh banta h boss 😋😉

Location- 3/5- situated on main road on a crowded street in main city..use Google maps..😉

Parking- 2/5- 4 wheelers can be issue..we took cab..

Prices - 4/5- not very high...in fact worth every penny..

Ambience- 4/5- this place is really something.. beautifully done..the interior gives you a feeling of being in a village having comfortable seating, big tables..craft done so nicely..serving food on leaves and kulhad🧀.. totally loved it..so soothing to eyes and so comforting..☺️☺️

Staff-4/5- modest staff , the person serving us was very helpful in terms of suggestions.. 😊😊

Quantity of food- 4/5- desserts enough for one for what we ordered..main course easily enough for two..😋

Quality- 4/5- we ordered the following

- baati chokha combo- Ur choice of baati served with desi ghee, chokha (tomato brinjal and potato semi gravy) and daal..chokhà is good..not spicy,
Baati- choice of plain , paneer, sattu- sattu and paneer both good..we ordered extra also because daal and chokha are more than enough for at least 4 baati..

There comes a sweet dish also in the combo, kheer was it for us- the sweetish taste is of jaggery not sugar so it looks very light reddish in color.

Churma (dessert) the jaggery taste is quite dominant and hence could not finish it all..but not a bad option..

Kadhai paneer- not very remarkable but still good.. thick yellowish gravy not spicy..

Not to forget that papad crushed..I am not a big fan of papad ever, but it was so crispy (oil fried)- this did accentuate the taste

All in all this place is must visit if you want some authentic baati chokha.

Keep it up ...!!!!
Cherishmeals
Moong daal halwa...taste was out of the world one must try it..Rate was lil high according to quantity but with respect to quality totally worth it boss ...moong dal halwa cooked in pure desi ghee along with cashew and mind blowing fragrance of cardamom...yummillicious 😋

People looking for local cuisine this is a compulsory pit stop in Varanasi. The rustic interiors and the true ethnic cuisine is a perfect setting for some great Baati Choka . The baati Thali is the perfect dish to experience Varanasi food . Don’t miss the dal here , the dal is cooked in earthen pots and the pots are not reused . The pot provides a distinct earthly flavour to the dal .

A traditional thali based outlet serving bati chokha.
They serve two kinds of bati, one with paneer stuffing and other one the traditional sattu filled. Go for the sattu one though.
The taste was amazing and kheer for dessert is just too good.
A must try.

This place is fun The service is great and the food is Spicy and exotic. If you want to treat yourself to something different this is the place to go. They offer a kinda of Thali which is what I recommend. The food is delivered quick and hot.

Beautiful ambience, must visit restaurant in Varanasi, enjoy the great food and traditional hospitality of Uttar Pradesh. This place gives a very rustic vibe, the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Price of thali is too less compared to the quality and quantity of food, highly recommended for #tourists in Varanasi.

Beautiful ambience . . .. .it is in complete contrast to the approach road. Nice decor and old music playing.

The staff is very polite and respectful.

Food is perfect to the north indian palette.
The sattu bati is much better and conventional compared to the paneer bati
An excellent place for baati chokha with great ambience!!!
A must visit place in Varanasi. We went to this place on a Saturday night. The service was fast. The place started getting crowded after 8.30.

Went here on Devdeepawali with family and the crowd was unbearable. It took almost 2.5 hrs to get us a table. Heard a lot about this place and its food but got totally disappointed. The chain has two sections both the places were full of people. We were waiting like anything. I didn't like the ambiance. Many of us complain about AC but they didn't even entertain. Food was AVERAGE. The restaurant has a lot of space and they can transform into a lounge for people who are waiting and they should work on it.

Now coming onto service.... I would have given three stars but service here is too slow to check your patience level. The man who was serving on our table was very rude to us when we complained about our order. The way he was responding I personally didn't like so cut down one star. I would suggest if you're very hungry and thinking of this place please DON'T. If possible go early and then waste your time looking at eating people which is so annoying. The theme of this place is based on rural India which you can see in paintings done on walls and will like the decor.

I'm very fond of clicking pictures of my food but when it was served I was so exhausted that did not interest me to take a photo of my food.
So sorry!

The real taste of Banaras
Food: They serve a whole combo starting from appetizers, drinks, main course to the dessert. There are three combos baati chokha, daal roti and khichdi. I tried their baati chokha being very famous. Their was raita for drink served in kullhad, starter has moong daal pakode, paneer pakode and fried faara and each of it was very delicious. Then for main course they serve delicious daal and Chokha of potato and brinjal with Baati one filled with spicy sattu and second with delicious Panner stuffing. The best part is the baati is cracked open and then the pure desi ghee is poured over it. The food is lip smacking and for dessert you can have moong daal halwa, one of a kind or Churma also one of a kind or kesar kheer. They also serve amazing kulfi with rose syrup.
Ambiance: The Ambiance is the most beautiful part of this restaurant, the interior is beautifully crafted like a village decorated for some festival. It has a festive vibes with the authenticity of our roots. It has beautiful doors and decors.
Service: the service is amazing, the staffs are very well coordinated and it will give a great experience to you.

So now this place is one of its kind restaurant. Just an extremely different milieu, serenity exists here truly. Honestly, I am fascinated by this place for sure. All about the food, extremely delectable and the best are the desserts...moong ki halwa, churma and kheer. I'd love to visit again and again. Most importantly, they serve a food consuming less oil and nutritional quotient is perfect. Great one! Already.

This restaurant is amazing. It has a great cultural vibe to it that'll make you fell in love with it. Everything here is themed on the Western U.P tradition.
The ambience is too good, it makes u think that you're sitting in a village with cute walls with drawings and paintings all over it.
I tried their bati chokha thali, kadi chawal and sattu ka parantha. The food is served on pattal over a wooden plates. They served pudina chutney, tamatar chutney along with it.
Overall, had a brilliant experience here! I would love to back again. You should definitely check this place out❤️

I've never been a bati chokha fan (so sue me!) but i literally licked up this thali full of different Indian delicacies from BATI CHOKHA! I loved their ambience, I've never been through any village experience but their ambience would surely remind anyone of a typical indian village! Interactive and fun! Tasty and fresh without being overpoweringly of the same type. They even had different kinds of Batis, mainly paneer, aloo and sattu, all of them were generously covered in ghee that lent a lovely bite in between all that goodness.

The thali consisted of different Batis (Paneer and sattu), chokha (mainly made of aloo and tomato), a bowl of rice (the rice bowl was made up of clay), a bowl of dal, some fries (that were seriously not oily), some onions, pickles, raita, different kinds of chutneys, and finally you are given a choice of desserts, you are allowed to choose one out of the three sweet dishes (kheer, churma and moong dal halwa). All of the three were really mind-blowing.

The special attraction being the ambience, their way of serving the food, the lots and lots of ghee poured over the food (not without your permission, obviously) and ultimately the dessert that you will love to the core if you are a die hard dessert lover.

The thali costs Rs 250 + GST

Being a banarasi i just love this place..and its my first task to take anyone who comes to banaras to bati chokha and see their reactions..just an amazing place..just like home..and the food reminds me of my childhood days when in village we use to have a bati chokha night.

If you want to have a go at Eastern UP cuisine with a quintessential ambience and great hospitality, then Baati Chokha is your definite choice to visit! With seating spread in ground as well as first floor and several village antiques to give you a 'desi' feel, you are bound to have a delightful dining experience.

Last night I went with my family to have our dinner and trust me we were wholesomely occupied and satisfied with the food. The charm of places like these is that food is the ultimate winner. Having a lot of varieties of items in your "thaali", you won't be able to finish it all by yourself. Cooked in pure desi ghee, dal and baatis are topped with plethora of ghee, choice of dessert in Moong Dal Halwa, Churma or Kheer ensures that you end your meal on a high note.

The Baati Thali costs Rs. 250 + gst and trust me, it's totally worth. The service was quick and hospitality was really great and commendable. A must visit place in Varanasi for sure.

My first exposure to authentic East UP cuisine began here. I am a hard core non vegetarian but this is vegetarian that I could anytime. Dollops of ghee on the Dhal and Bhaati but every morsel was perfect.
The authenticity is enhanced with the decor and seating on the floor and the plates and clay pots for serving.

Will be back again for sure.

Simple and best food.service is good. You can have the best baati chokha. I have tried the combo thali which contains rice ,dal and satoo bati with chokha.
The best one is the paneer bati.you must try that.

In the world full of Thai Italian Japanese and continental restaurant.. what a mature person would look for is their traditional food the only restaurant in Varanasi that serves the taste of Varanasi the culture of banaras. Fit for every age group. Quite expensive but worth it

On the 18th day of August 2018 I visit at Baati Chokha restaurant at Teliyabagh Varanasi. It's really an awesome place for dinner. Food quality and service are very good and the interior of that place totally Indian and lookable. Food items are very tasty at this place. I give 5/5. The real taste of Banaras 😃

Food is excellent. Just the buffet doesn't make much of a sense. It's a place that you certainly can't afford to miss if you ever find yourself in Varanasi. Just one annoying thing is the parking charge you have to pay. Makes no sense at all. I would strongly suggest it to the restaurant owners to make it complimentary.
If you visit Banaras, you have to visit Baati Chokha. simple rustic decor, quite clean for the city standards, courteous staff. And delectable food.

Vegetarian thaali is all that is on the menu. But you will not miss anything. From chutney to the dessert, every dish was tasty.

The portion of vegetable in a bowl and rice is huge. I shared. The baati was different with stuffings of paneer and one more thing I couldn’t decipher.

Rest you should go and experience

Bati Chokha restaurant is located near Anand Mandir cinema. I heard a lot about this place and also saw some good reviews. Finally we went to this place for lunch. We ordered thali which consists of Bati, Chokha, Dal, rice, ghee, some chutneys and kheer. I really loved all the items, because most of them are new to me. Traditional Village themed ambience was cool and service was bang on. So don't miss this place if you are in Varanasi.

If you want to taste Purvachali and Bihar cuisine then this place is one of the best options in Varanasi, the ghee they use and that kheer they serve at the end are one of the flash things... one time visit is must!

A must goo to place if you are ever in Varanasi. I visit this place every time I travel to varanasi Though it can't be located easily in the busy streets of Varanasi but all the pain in reaching this restaurant is worth after you reach. This place is crowded most of the times and you will definitely have to wait for your turn to sit and eat the delicious baati chokha served here. Also the theme of the restaurant is very different and unique from all others. If you are in a hurry you can ask them to pack your food so you can have it at peace. Again it is a must go place because the rates here are very budgeted for the entire family.

As the name suggests, it is famous for Litti chokha thali only @250
The village themed ambience is pretty good and service is fast.

Coming to the food, 3 different Starters are served initially which are quite tasty. 2 Littis are served along with chokha. A decent portion of Daal and Rice alongwith Chaas and halwa is also served. Over-all the quantity is very good. and if you can't finish all the food they will pack it for you.

Over-all 5 stars for this place as in Varanasi there are not many places having such overall experience.

There are two settings that one can choose from in the premises. The one we chose had a couple of stone mills and rice levers in the front which instantly lifted my parched spirit(thanks to the humidity laden heat of Benaras) and then curiousity piqued again upon noticing the sign to remove our footwear before entering the restaurant. Opened the door and lo and behold, a gladiatorial chamber greeted us..difference from a collosium?? Well each spectator was engaged in a grub fight with the epitomes of culinary crafts being served on the elvine plates (made of leaf) and earthenware..the masaledar mattha, the desi salsa with mustard oil, dhania and pudina chutney as accompaniments to the starters with the Kurkure pakoras and khaara played a buccal orchestra..the explosive combination was.like hard metal, risk, pop and classical combined together cleverly..you feel each component in each morsel put in your mouth and some more clever imbibations in the after taste..then came the chokha and baati, masala and paneer..and the heavenly dal, plain arhar (Bengal gram) cooked in an earthen pot on open flames and then tempered with desi ghee, jeera and saboot laal mirch. I ate till I could eat no more, and then some more, then a little for the road, and then when I felt the unfamiliar knock on the back of my palate with an angry virtual voice threating an imminent rushing out of the devoured gorge is when I rested my hand. Complaint???Yes God!!!why haven't you given me an elephantine Gastrium??
Loved it to every bit!!

A family restaurant.. Liked the food. The interior of the place is like that of a rural place.. Nice service. The desi food lovers must visit the place.

During my last visit to Varanasi I went to this place along with my family. The place has nice authentic ambience along with the tasty food. Here we ordered Baati Chokha combo. One thali of Baati Chokha is more than enough for a single person. Baati is really soft that tastes amazing along with the daal and Chokha served. This place is a must try for the Baati Chokha lover.

I was mesmerized to taste Baati chokha for the first time. I have a genuine inclination towards rustic simple variety of dishes. And I think Baati chokha tops the list with it's unique serving. Mashed potatoes, onions, Tomatoes along with eggplant (with added ginger flavor) marinated all in mustard oil gives it a great vivid taste. Baati served with clarified butter was next level. I'm from Gujarat so we don't have such food available in our vicinity. I'm craving for tht taste. It was that good.
On my recent trip to Varanasi, I visited this place.

I've always wanted to eat authentic litti-chokha, and a lot of locals throughout Varanasi suggested just this ONE place.

And true to its name and reputation, the most authentic and reasonable Litti-chokha in India.

The entire set-up and atmosphere of the place is so rustic and village-like.. the staff is extremely humble and cordial.

The food is oh so tasty.

I would recommend to try the churma along with the litti-chokha, it enhances the taste all the more.
What a place to have authentic eastern up and Bihar’s favourite food!!!
Never had such tasty stuff. They grind their own whole wheat flour , extract mustard oil from mustard seed directly and bake battis/littis on dried cow dung fired oven
In a traditional way.
I visited their Varanasi and Lucknow outlets and found same taste with tangy effect of pure mustard oil.
Being a resident of NCR, I wish they open their NCR outlet for Bihari like me.

Baati Chokha!
This place is one of the famous ones in varanasi where authentic indian food is served. The crowd in the restaurant is one way to tell that it is very popular.Upon entering,we notice a village style desi ambience which is really good and has a rustic feel.We decided to have the thali which is priced at 250 + taxes per person.

The food is served in a plate covered with leaf.
Buttermilk is served in a pot and water is served in bottles.
Coming to the food,a variety of starters are served first which are really tasty but not hot.Green chutney, another chutney and onions are served as accompaniments.
Then,a chokha(made of brinjal) and a dal are served along with a paneer baati and saatu baati which are really unique for a first timer like me.The dal is supposed to be eaten with a rice which is served later. This dal chaawal is very nice.
After this, kheer is served in pots. The kheer is unlike any other kheer that i have had before and is really good.
The service was quick and courteous throughout and we had no problems with it.

Overall,it is one of the best restaurants in varanasi and is worth a shot if you are willing to try something new and have no problem with trying the local cuisine.

Amazing experience.....the desi ambience and the desi and droolworthy food. What a way to serve the delicacy batti chokha!!! The thali is a must try. The dal and moong ka halwa just steal the show 😋

We have loved this place in the past and in every trip of ours to benaras this is a Must visit for me and family . Except this time it was a horrible experience . Everything from service and food quality was poor . We were 13 people at this restaurant and 6 of my family members got sick . Severe indigestion and stomach ache was suffered by all of us . We suspect the quality of ghee that was served along with food . If I had the time , I would definitely lodge a complaint with the food authorities of the suspected quality of food that the restaurant is serving in the name of authentic .
This experience not only ruined the health of my family members but also our last 2 days in benaras got completely ruined . This is out of my list of places to visit in benaras for sure # bad restaurant #baati chokha # poor quality # benaras

This is awesome place for traditional dining, a must visit place if you are visiting Varanasi.

Not only the unique ambiance but a very friendly and humble staff ,to name a few Shashi Chaudhary and Archana was outstanding in serving and attending guests.
The one rating I gave ,is for food .
Would have given negative for pathetic service .Its a big zero on customer service .Even if the food is good ,you would get out of the restaurant on a bad note .Best to avoid and look out for other restaurants unless you are fine with rude behavior of staffs .
