Visited the Tanjore Restaurant in New Woodlands Hotel on 3rd April for lunch.
This is a place where you get traditional south meal on a banana leaf.
Rice, Dal, Ghee, Papad, Multi vegetables sambar, Spicy Kara Kozambu, Brinjal Avarai Curry, Ladiesfinger More Kootu, Raita, Rasam, Curd, Pineapple Kesari, Banana and Beeda.
It tasted homely and was easy on stomach.
Will visit again with family.
My favourite South Indian Thaali. Reasonably priced. Good place to eat, small though. Should go there early. Returned many times being late.
Wonderful place for authentic South Indian food. Served on a banana leaf, food is very tasty without any commercialization. Staff can be a bit more smiling, prompt in service and response.
I went for plantain leaf lunch on saturday. They started serving with gulab jamun, appalam, kootu, poriyal, thair pachadi, dhal then rice, sambar, rasam, one cup curd. Already they placed the tray which have vathakuzhambu, salt and pickle. Everything was like home food. Oil less, non spicy, masala free which gave lite feeling to stomach even though it was full. Only one disappointment was vathakuzhambu found to be sour. And heard an info that only on sundays they serve aviyal and potato kari. So decide your day...
Typical south indian tanjore banana leaf meals is what you get here. Reviews of others give you a flavor of what you get. I prefer the meals downstairs in krishna. But. meals here is an experience in itself. Unlimited meals with limited papads 😂 and to finish a banana and a paan. Service is good. Food is nothing to write home about but it's good and tasty. The only thing I didn't like here was people who piled their leaf with food like the world's gonna end and then wasting most. A must place for bachelors who are running short of funds in the month end 😉😎
For long craving to have a nice traditional south Indian Brahmin style meals that has aracha vitta sambar, paruppu rasam, poricha koottu, vetta koyambu. My friend recommended Tanjore Restaurant at Mylapore. Puzzled when he said it is just at New Woodlands premises. I am a frequent visitor to New woodlands for two decades now. How come I missed that.Nothing to boast on Ambience though but got compensated by enjoying great service rendered by few North Indianstaffs (Nepalis) ever smiling. At first, Felt Rs.150/- was slightly expensive for a Thali but worth it. Typical pumpkin aracha vitta sambar, Sundakka vetta koyambu, Takkali rasam and bindi masala dry (poriyal) and chow chow poricha kootu and above all it was unlimited. Probably for the first time had gone for second serve for Sambar. I loved the food and wished the next time I go there take my mom for she loves traditional south Indian food.Overall fantastic experience. Would visit again with my whole family.
Food was good. It was friend's treat and so it turned out to be really great. Ambience is cool, you get to listen to melodies and they made that day special. It was a expensive, however you can afford to hangout once.

Service is nice and the ambience is like a marriage dining hall.
Gets a bit crowded during weekends and have to wait, otherwise its a good foodie place.
I damn care about ambiance, but only only only and ONLY taste will always decide my ratings for any restaurant, all other factors ambiance, cost,hospitality,service etc.are totally irrelevant for me. Tanjore Restaurant stands apart than most other restaurant with tongue friendly homely meals which deserve best in my rating. Even if they offer this kind of homely food in open ground, I will readily go and enjoy my my meals with equal ease without any grumble!
Wow. One of best South Indian meals I have had in Chennai. Served on a banana leaf, unlimited servings (you will want more!). Best hotel sambhar ever. You will get a bit of everything served on your leaf - rice, dal, sambhar, a curry, another dal based item, and today was cucumber raita. Concentrated tamarind sauce and delicious lemon pickle on the side and appalam.

Best South Indian lunch in the city. In terms of taste, hygiene, price, quality and quantity full marks.
You may have to wait for your turn, since the place has limited seating and demand is high.
But the wait will be worth it, surely

Plantain leaf vegetarian South Indian meals. Reasonable price. Above par taste and quality food. Service can be improved. Seating capacity is around 24 only.
Food is good and tasty at reasonable rate for lunch. Parking is challenging because of good crowd.
Atmosphere is good. Food is good. The staff can be a bit gentle. They serve in a hurry, dumping the items on the leaf, making noise while keeping the vessel on the table
Tanjore Restaurant and Woodlands both are my all time Favourite 💜Went No of Times with Family... Tasty Foods, Spicy Corn , Lasgna, Paneer Tikka, Mushroom Soup , Ghee Dosai , Rava Dosai ,Fruits Salad, Falooda, Filter Coffee everything i loved ..Very Tasty ...Enjoyed everytime with this Restaurant 💜✨
Simple South Indian meals, not too elaborate, but wholesome and very delicious. I didn’t miss anything and didn’t waste anything that was served. It would have been a crime to leave over anything! The food was served by the Nepali boys who could use some training on how the items flow to the leaf but they were prompt and quick in getting the items. I am waiting to visit again. BTW the current price is RS 200 per head and they are open only for lunch hours between 11.30 and 14.30.
