Ordered crispy potato bao from here and got it delivered in a nice packaging and with a quirky note attached. This is the first time that I have tried this dish so I cannot compare with other food joints. The bread was very soft, the potatoes were crispy and flavourful and there was also a cucumber slice dipped in sauce and cheese. Overall good experience, although I didn't like the smell of the sauce, but perhaps it is the signature of the dish so no complaints. Keep up the good work.

Hands down it is one of the best places to have a good Japanese meal in the city. The Fatty Bao has quickly caught up with the food lovers in Kolkata. A modern oriental ambience with beautiful paper lanterns strung up origami, a glass facade overlooking the city structures; it is an idyllic setting for a dining experience. Perfectly rolled up sushi, soft bao with brilliant fillings, ramen bowls, delicate dimsums, refreshing salads; the menu is pleasing to all. Drooling something different feeling at Kolkata

A perfect date-night place. It has become my favourite restaurant just for the ambience it has in the evening. You can see the lit up Victoria Memorial and it's just beautiful. The food is nothing but tasty and a very good value for money.

Going backlins, decided to come up with this mini review for me to reminisce later, rather than establishing a critical analysis.
As evident, there aren't many places that can serve authentic Japanese cuisine; or de facto, there aren't many places that serve Jap in the first place. I can name a handful that could satisfy my palate armed with weeb knowledge.
Apart from the spectacular food quality, the decor giving the asian kick zhuzh up the place even more.
It was 2019 September, autumn is practically summer here, as usual with diminished appetite, ordered 3 dishes.

Spicy Salmon and Cream Cheese sushi: With the backdrop of Victora Memorial, enjoyed a fine uramaki; that subtle taste of cheese give the salmon a warm embrace, tres bien!

Tantanmen: I honestly don't recall having a ramen bowl as delicious, as savory-to-the last-bit like this one, EVER. With thick yet light chicken and pork broth, perfectly cooked chasu cuts, gorgeous waves of flavours, this dish right there is peak comfort food alright.
Should I pray, since this bowl looks like the god? Even after almost a year of having this, I can still feel the lingering aftertaste in my mouth as I recollect. Can't wait to dig into it once again!

Coco Caramel: Sublime, that's the word for it.
With hazelnut and crispy praline coated meringue sided with milk chocolate crémeux, hell this dessert is nothing but a rich experience of jewels.

There's literally no drop in tempo I mean, where do you find that?
I thought so. Thinking about it makes me esurient, otherwise who bothers to write a review after almost a year when I've left writing in the first place.
If there's a handful of places that should never be struck by apocalypse, then Fatty Bao is one of 'em and this means a lot coming from me.
Well then, carpe diem fellas!

The Fatty Bao is a restaurant with excellent authentic Japanese cuisine and a fine ambience with sober yet beautiful decor and good music. There is a separate bar counter at one end of the dining area.
Ordered the following food items:
Eggplant Bao - As the name suggests it's stuffed with fried eggplant and kimchi cabbage with sriracha sauce and garlic. This to me was a surprise once I took the first bit. Veg bao can be so delicious?! The eggplant was crispy with a lovely fried texture. The bao was very soft and full of flavours along with the stuffing. Absolutely loved it.

Grilled Sambal Chicken Bao - Stuffed with Sambal oelek, soy, lemongrass and scallion, no wonder this bao was delicious too and the lemongrass and scallion gave it a delightful touch.

Classic Sticky Crab Fried Rice with Chilli oil - This was my happy food. The rice was moist with lots of flavours blended perfectly and full with shreds of crab meat and veggies. The chilli oil gave a beautiful flavour. This dish reflects the love with which the dish was cooked.

Sichuan Three-pepper Pork - This maincourse dish with pork was scrumptious and will make you want more. The pork pieces absolutely melted in the mouth. The rich gravy was flavoursome analong with the Sichuan peppercorns, long green chillies and scallions adding a crunchy texture and freshness to it. Loved this dish and it did justice to the sticky crab rice.

Japanese Cheesecake with sour cherries compote, pistachios crumble and Vanilla bean ice-cream - Ohh my my! This dessert took me straight to heaven. Beautifully presented, the Japanese Cheesecake was dense yet soft and not too sweet which is perfect to my taste buds. The sour cherries compote added and zing and freshness which balances perfectly with the rich dense cheesecake. The pistachios crumble was lovely and the vanilla bean ice-cream instantly hit the mark. The vanilla bean ice-cream was amazing and very light in texture. One of the best of its kind I had.

Fatty Hill - It's their speciality and the presentation is eye-catching. It's a chocolate pyramid with mint at the centre with almond praline and covered with rice crispies, played along with the divine Vanilla bean ice-cream. The dense and creamy chocolate was beautiful and when I took a spoon of it the rice crispies and almond praline added a crispiness to it. As I took more and more if it I reached the centre where the mint centre comes; a white minty core. The vanilla bean ice-cream was the same used with the Japanese Cheesecake. A delectable dessert!

The staffs were extremely polite and cordial. Great great thumbs up to their unique way of plating and eccentric presentation. It's one of my favourite places.

Kolkata's skyline glitters beneath Monkey Bar's fairy-lit canopy, casting a playful charm over this rooftop fusion fusion haven. Brick walls whisper tales of the city's history, while vibrant cocktails sing a modern melody – each concoction a whimsical masterpiece in a glass. Monkey Bar's menu dances to a global beat, offering delectable twists on familiar favorites. The butter chicken bao at Fatty Bao next door takes center stage, bursting with juicy, spiced chicken and pillowy softness. But don't let the baos steal the show! Dive into the fragrant chili potatoes, each bite a delightful explosion of spice and crunch. Back at Monkey Bar, crispy paneer pakoras pirouette alongside succulent Korean pork ribs, harmonizing East and West on your plate. Savor the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness of the lamb Rogan Josh, its rich gravy a warm embrace on a cool Kolkata night. But the magic truly unfolds with Monkey Bar's cocktail symphony. The "Kolkata Calling" thrums with mango and chili, capturing the city's essence in every sip. The "Spiced Paloma" offers a fiery tango of grapefruit and tequila, a fiesta for the palate. Service at both Monkey Bar and Fatty Bao is attentive and friendly, guiding you through the culinary adventure with warm smiles. Whether you're a seasoned gourmand or a curious explorer, the staff ensures your journey is smooth and satisfying. Monkey Bar & The Fatty Bao is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. It's the laughter echoing under the fairy lights, the clinking of glasses as strangers become friends, and the lingering taste of global flavors on your lips. It's Kolkata, reinvented with a playful wink and a delicious twist. So, gather your friends, climb the stairs to the rooftop, and let Monkey Bar & The Fatty Bao enchant you with their fusion fiesta. Just be sure to save room for that extra bao – you won't regret it. Pro tip: Head there for sunset and watch the city transform into a shimmering jewel box.

Beautiful place with great food and friendly staff. I had Malai Fish tikka here. It was very tasty and that was the first time I liked a Malai dish. We also had a prawns starter and Egg Fried Rice. My only complaint is that, cocktails are not fine. Staff is very friendly and helpful. View of the Victorial Memorial is nice at night.

The place was good. Service was good as well. I felt it to be a bit overpriced over what they offer. 2nd in the list after Asia!Asia!Asia! in the food to price ratio on the bad side. Has the decency to provide more food than Asia!Asia!Asia!

I was skeptical about trying sushi but decided to go with the veg version. And it turned out to be wonderful on the very 1st try. I became daring and had 3/5th portion of wasabi and now I trust the Korean people when they say they don't like wasabi. It burned my whole tasting senses for a moment and my eyes became watery in an instant!!🥲🥲 Next I had Seafood Tempura Udon which was absolutely marvelous. The light texture of the soup and the ability to fill the appetite with its richness in taste was mind blowing. Fish and prawn tempura were the best combination with it. Also must mention the fish cake🍥😌 Trying Cheesecake was also the best decision as the not too sweet cheesy fluffy cake with its best buddies ice cream and sour cherries made my foodie heart flutter. After all these items, when I was contemplating whether I should have a drink or not. Whether it'll ruin the taste of cheesecake or not. The sudden thought of trying a completely unknown stuff came up in my mind. Thus I decided to take sips of Sakura Sakura, a grape based non alcoholic drink including a hell lot of ice cubes and some green apples providing a sour and fizzy taste that completely made me smile. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS CAFE TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO TRY JAPANESE FOODS 💯💯
