Uzhavan Unavagam' a farmer's canteen started by former Madurai district collector U Sagayam is entering its fourth successful year in September and the group of five farmers has started dishing out few new varieties made with traditional grains.
Very interesting concept started by Mr. Sagayam when he was Madurai collector. Traditional food made from small grains and medicinal herbs, prepared and served right there. Spotted lots of food which are almost unknown to the younger generation. Must visit with kids to show them what our previous generation ate ( and stayed healthy!)
This place is fabulous! Friendly farmers selling delicious tiffin and other snacks, made with millets, greens, and other healthy crops they and their neighbors grow. Because of the open air seating, you can sit, even lounge, and chat with other customers or the vendors and enjoy the evening breeze while you eat. Only open in the evening; 7 to 8:30pm is the busiest time.

Only a few hotels provide such tradition foods and.this is one of the hotels. One can easily find this hotel since it is side by the road. Traditional Tamil sweets and Dosas made from unheard of cereals!! The taste is just right and the farmers who double up as staff are friendly! Definitely worth visiting.
