It’s a decent restaurant. Good food quality. Authentic south Indian taste. Located at teen-batti (walkeshwar), where once stood guru-kripa hotel which was my childhood favuraite for batata vada. Its located in posh & gujrati dominated area so naturally its slightly pricy & (gujju level) noisy too. We tried multiple dishes. Ghee masala dosa, kanchipuram idli, amsaddor idli, filter coffe. Chutney variety was also very good. All tasted very good. Sitting was also decent. Good décor and staff service was also good.
Note: had visited this place in nov 2019
This is the perfect place to have authentic veg south indian cuisine. Love their rasam wada and bisibelle rice. Ambience is simple.
They serve nice south Indian food. The Mysore masala dosa was amazing tasted good the spices were properly blend. The masala idli is one of their speciality it taste amazing 😋
The place is really good for South Indian food .
Loved the paper dhosa the dhosa was really tasty
Food 4/5
Ambience 4/5
Overall 4/5
masala dosa - the dosa was good, if you like simple, homemade taste, you'll like it. The masala wasn't spicy. Crisp and size was great too.
Lemon water - it tasted good, i ordered sweet lemon water, it was very fresh and refreshing.
The best place in south Mumbai to cherish some South indian cusine. Authentic south indian food with great taste. Speciality includes rasam wada and besibele rice
Excellent taste,Sambhar & chutney amply served and refill is for free... Good crowd...
Enjoyed every bit of this place for last six years... frequently visiting...
The place is decent but very chaotic. The food served was delicious.
i had visited dakshinayan for breakfast.
been here for first time.
Dosa and Menduwada both were very good in taste.
reasonable prize.
Great south indian food & great filter coffee as well.
Very convenient location as well but there is no parking there.
Also, the ambiance is extremely basic so go there if you’re looking for just a plain & simple south indian meal
What an amazing experience! This South Indian restaurant in Walkeshwar is a true gem. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that authenticity was their priority.
We sampled a wide range of dishes, and each one was a delight. The dosa here is a must-try; it was crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor on the inside. The service was not only great but impressively quick.
This restaurant has a certain charm as an old joint, and it's a testament to their consistent quality. Don't leave without trying their surprise item, the Malai Kulfi – it's an unexpected delight.
The only drawback is the lack of parking space, but the fantastic food more than compensates for it. They cater to vegetarians and Jains, which is a huge plus. We personally enjoyed the Tamarind Sevai, Curd Vada, Podi Dosa, and of course, the Malai Kulfi.
Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic South Indian flavors in a cozy setting. This place truly delivers on taste and variety.
The service is on point. The food served is also of good quality. On weekends there's generally a waiting of around half an hour.
We ordered steamed idli, Dakshinayan 's speciality - Black Pepper Dosa (don't remember the original name) and lemon soda.
The experience was good and would love to visit again.

I had a quick lunch here and it was awesome. The looks are simple but aesthetic, the service is prompt and the food is wonderful. Authentic South Indian cuisine that tasted really yummy. The vadas were crispy outside and super soft inside, the dosa was mouth watering and the chutneys were tangy and tasty. I need to mention that the sambhar I had here was one of the best that I have ever tasted.
This Restaurant is a hidden gem that promises an authentic culinary journey through the flavors of South India. The vibrant and cozy ambience sets the stage for a memorable dining experience
Amazing South Indian food! The malgapudi idli was yummy so were their dosas! Ragi and Rava sada dosa was excellent! Their rasam vada was good as well! Such a nice restaurant in the vicinity of isckon with mind blowing South Indian food! Really appreciate their simplicity and humble food! Filter coffee was a bit ok as compared to other authentic South Indian outlets!
South Indian (filter) coffee was alright, as was the tomato-onion uthappam. However, it's somewhat pricier than the typical Udupi restaurants and without any uptick in quality that I could discern.
The sweet lassi was also alright, albeit the portion size was smaller than I expected.
Good food, served piping hot. Loved the rustic ambience and excellent service.
Best quality south Indian food in South Bombay. An absolute favourite of the locals. Wonderful menu and flavourful dishes. Highly recommend.
Food is good, but it's quite a small place having no restrooms. And this is the first restaurant I have ever visited which doesn't have a wash basin for hand wash; finger bowls only 🫣
Seating could have been better as they have mostly benches, no chairs /sofas
Ghee sada dosa was too good. Onion rava sada dosa was sprinkled with too much onion. Mini idlis were good.
We visited Dakshinayan after a longtime.
The feel of the place still remains the same. The quality of food is consistently good with proactive service.
They take pride (+vely) in what they serve and make it very comforting for you to enjoy your meals.
We had their masala dosa, onion rava dosa and filter coffee. The masala dosa was crispy, masala warm and filling. The rava dosa was very well made though I do feel the size of rava dosa has gone a bit smaller as compared to my past experience (or may be it was one of case). The filter coffee was perfect and quantity was good as well.
Overall it was good to re-visit Dakshinayan after a longtime and we hope to visit them again soon!
Cheers!
