Had great time with some friends at #Thangabali yesterday at a select sneak tasting. Thanks Dharmesh Karmokar and Amit Jambotkar for a lovely evening.
Great variety, affordable pricing a no non-sense restaurant which is just about good served in a decent ambience.
It is good that at least someone is thinking about honest to goodness food served in it's authentic simplicity. It is high time the food reclaimed the heroes place at the restaurant.
For all those gourmets already aware of various Andhra, Tamil, Kannadiga, Kerala and Maglorean specialities this one place will offer all of that and beat the cravings.
For those who do not know much about South India or it's cuisine it's the best place to start and hence a must visit as I can't think of a better way to get introduced.
Either ways delectable, enjoyable, mouth slurping experience.
One disclaimer though, there is a huge risk of overeating, so beware.
Discovered Thangabali quite accidentally- on Good Friday, strolling around Mahim after a Pre-Prandial blood test and needing to eat after fasting from the previous evening. For Breakfast they offer a largish menu of veg and non veg options in a price range from Rs 120 to Rs 240/-. Taking mental leave from my Endocrinologist and dietician I ordered a Pondi Semiya Upma and a Dahavangere Benne Dosa. The Semiya Upma was served with two chutneys was light, fragrant and lovely. Served hot it made a great start! The Dhavangere Bene Dosa was served with Sambhar along with the chutneys and a large tablespoon of white butter or Makhan. The Dosa itself was steaming soft and I enjoyed my surprise breakfast! Pleasent atmbience, comfortable interiors with a wall marking the great Hindu temples across south east Asia. Waiters wore white Mundus and service was prompt - but early in the morning on a holiday no one else was in the restaurant. Pricing is moderate. No Service charge in the bill. Chef Santosh is a Gujarathi specialising in South Indian cuisine and has served at the Taj Group. The owners are a trio - none from the South. Recommended for their cuisine and great food.
Great place and one of its kind! Amazing! Loved the flavours and food👌
Traditional south Indian sea food served with perfect ambience and staff service. Prawns curry highly recommended.
Had been here for a family lunch. The ambience is relaxing and the staff is really polite. We ordered the ghee roast mutton, chicken angara, malbari parathas, neer dosa and their famous tawa pomfret. The food was just delicious and the service too was great. Will surely return.
Authentic south Indian delicacies , the staff was in the south Indian attire... hence created a good vibe !
Interesting and different ambience and menu, i love the fact that they have huge variety of veg southindian food. Service is very friendly and prompt and food quality is top notch.
My personal favourites - Spicy kerala tomato pepper soup, clam starter and Andhra paneer dry & Veg hyderabadi biryani in main course along with malabari paratha.😋😋

Amazing place, Amazing decor, Amazing staff, Amazing food. I really liked the paintings on the walls. I ordered prawns, fish, chicken and even a biryani at this place and everything was so tasty. No complaints

Thangabali- Flavours Of Southern India, is located on the ground floor of Manmohan Bhavan, Mahim-West. As the name suggests, it is the solitary serving the uniquely crafted relishing select cuisines across five southern states.
Walk in and you are greeted, ‘Vanakkam’ with the hands folded, a big smile on face by the lungi cladded gentlemen. The menu is in Bonti form , a tool used to scrape coconut in southern India. They serve specially curated, uniquely crafted veg & non veg soups, combos, starters, mains and Thalis.
The decor of the restaurant features a brass Kerala pakshi vilakku, temple pillars, kathakali mask, copper utensils and artifacts giving you the taste of South Indian fare.
As we awaited for our selected dishes, we chomped fresh fried murukku , banana chips with 4 options of chutneys.
We tried:
♦️Aam Panna
♦️Solkadi
♦️Elai Meen Pollichathu ( Pomfret)
♦️Whole Fish Fry ( Surmai)
♦️Manglorean Ghee Roast ( Mutton)
Prawns Chettinadu ( Prawns)
with neer dosa
♦️Mysore Pak
♦️Millennium Kulfi
The food served was scrumptious and authentic. The fish we tried were extremely fresh and meaty.Spice tolerance levels were ascertained at the time of briefing the peculiarity of the dish.
We were greeted by Mr. Vynkatesh and served by Mr. Kabir. Both were polite, friendly, courteous and professional.
A must visit place for all the food lovers to enjoy the culinary delights of southern states.
A very beautiful place to have dishes from any of the 4 South Indian States.
A great ambience and awesome service.
We have chicken ghee roast. While it was very close to the authentic taste, maybe a little more was needed. Very surprisingly, we found each of the two bowls having a different taste.
A must visit place for the South Indian community or for those who long for a taste of such good food.
It's located in the heart of Mahim and very easily accessible
Thangabali!
Nestled in Mahim, Thangabali is a culinary haven, offering a taste of coastal authenticity. Thangabali's inviting atmosphere elevates the dining experience.

A highly recommended place!❤️
If you adore south Indian cuisine, do visit this restaurant. There is waiter by the name Akram, who will help you in choosing right meals. Do look for him, if you are not sure about your choice. The dishes we ordered were both veg and non veg. Both the dishes were equally tasty and delicious. The decor of the restaurant is very enticing and the menu card is very innovative. Must visit.
For starters i had Sri lanka chicken lollypop, it was spicy, full of flavours ..must have it.
I had an unlimited non veg banana leaf thali
Egg curry= good ,a bit tangy like butter chicken gravy
Chicken curry= boneless, spicy, best thing in the thali
Mutton curry= extremely sour, okayish, people who like sour can enjoy
Solkadhi & buttermilk= a bit diluted, could be better
Paratha n appam = very good
Sambhar n rassam = authentic south style sambhar, rassam was a bit spicy, liked both
Pineapple sheera= great to have , ask for warm sheera
Pickle, imli chutney n gunpowder= enhances your taste buds
Overall a good experience 👍
I went to Mahim Dargah with a friend. After offering prayers we decided to sit some where and eat dinner. This place is just ten mins walk from Mahim dargah. This outlet serves best South Indian food from five states of South india. The attaire of the staff was so traditional. The ambiance is according to the theme with beautiful wall painting and warm light. We had ordered soul kadhi as a refreshing drink which was a mix of kokum and coconut water. For starters we had fish tava fry which was a surmai fish marinated with authentic spices of Kerala and was fried so well and the other one was Kerala pepper fry chicken which was so crispy and tangy. For mains we had Malabari prawns curry which has an amazing taste of coconut and was served with steam rice. The thaattukada mutton curry was falvoured with red tomatoe paste and nice and was served with Malabari parantha. We had a nice experience of South flavors which we had discovered there. Thanks to Mr. Kabeer for helping us to choose the dishes and for being a nice host.
Very fresh and tasty sea food. Though ghee roast prawns was ok. Remaining evening was on the mark.
Surmai Fish
Ravas Fish
Ghee roast prawns
Prawns Gravy
Bombay duct
Soup
Hands down to one of the best South food I have ever eaten across Mumbai. There are a lot of radiations which you can try and I think mutton pepper fry was my favorite. Even the payassam was too good to be true. Have you ordered a lot of things like gunpowder squid fry mutton pepper, chicken pepper fry, fried coriander chicken then we ordered for a biryani. Also we had chicken chettinad and some mutton gravy which is difficult to remember along with Malabar Paratha and neer dosa
Then ended up eating a moong dal by some payassam and save your seviya carrot payassam.
I didn't like the biryani to be very honest because it wasn't the Biryani that you can eat if you keep your expectations on biryani.
What I was really disappointed about is the service... There is limited staff and it's difficult for them to take over a lot of people. After it's finished we have to wait for 15-20 minutes to call somebody and then ask for water.
Rest overall experience was good and the food was satisfactory. Being some of the best dishes to some of the not so great dishes I ever had.
Currently Zomato is running 50% off against this restaurant. Else if you are a gold member you walk into the restaurant you get 25% off on the bill if you pay by Zomato. Also there are offers available on swiggy die out as well which you can explore. So grab the deal go and have one of the best seafoods and chicken matine I had in this place.
This was my first try at trying this cuisine and I must say I regret not trying it sooner!
Everything about this place is authentic from The ambience to the food and even the staff is dressed in traditional clothing.
The staff is very courteous and welcoming which made our dining a pleasant experience.
I tried-
Chilli coriander pachdi- Soft paneer tossed in a Spicy green chutney. It was very flavourful!
Kundapur ajadina- A mangalorean speciality with grated coconut and special masalas from the south. If you like spicy food, this one is for you!!!
Ghassi- A coconut milk based red curry with vegetables. This is slightly tangy and spicy. Best of both worlds! Went really well with malabar parotta.
Appam- They were soft and fluffy and was topped with gun powder.
Neer Dosa- 1 portion serves 4! they were very soft and thin; And complimented the curries.
Parotta- soft and flaky parottas! These are a must have, they taste great with curries but I also relished them just on their own too.
Payasam- This is a MUST have!!!! The perfect sweet ending to your scrumptious meal.
Definitely going back to try the lunch on banana leaf.
