Nice ambience and a good place to hang out with friends or go for a date. It is one of the few places in Mumbai which serves Japanese food. The staff is good, polite and pays personal attention. Only suggestion for the restaurant, they should be more descriptive about the food and drinks, since people might not be well versed with Japanese cuisine.
The Fatty Bao- a relaxed Asian Gastro Bar serves innovative cocktails & an exciting Asian menu. The Powai outpost has eclectic interiors, comfortable seating arrangements, alfresco section & a trendy bar. We tried refreshing cocktails like Tamatcha(made with rum, matcha syrup, basil, lime & soda), Beach Blonde (made with gin, coconut water, lime juice, lemongrass, jaggery & hints of green chilli) and Bora Bora (made with Absolute vodka, passion fruit, green apple, coconut water served with juicy green apple slivers). The bar menu also features classic cocktails, an extensive wine list available by the glass and bottle, single malts and other premium spirits. For starters we started with Black Rice Sushi served with scallops & miso. The main course comprised of Grilled Lamb Chops marinated in Korean chili paste & garlic served with tamarind Chili Sauce and salad.
The Fatty Pho Ramen Bowl (we ordered the less broth option) was flavorful & satisfying with smoked chicken, noodles, vegetables & eggs.
Great ambience. This place is a tiny piece of heaven for all pork-lovers. The vegetarian options are brilliant too. Even though the place is on the expensive side, the portions are adequately sized. You get what you pay for. Amazing, flavourful, well-plated food!!
What we ordered:
Appetiser: 1. Fatty Lotus Root (lotus root + Kung Pao sauce = awesomeness)
2. Fatty Bao PB&J (slow cooked pork belly)
3. Bao - Char Siu (soft, melt-in-your-mouth pork goodness in a Bao - steamed bread)
Main course
1. Vegetables and garlic noodles - absolute explosion of flavour in your mouth
2. Malaysian chicken kapitan w/sticky Jasmine rice
Dessert:
Zen Forest
SPECIAL REVIEW FOR SERVICE:
My friends and I got to the Powai outlet about 10 minutes before their kitchen shut. The staff were kind enough to give us 10 minutes to order all the 3 courses of the meal and kept the kitchen open to prep our meals! For us 4 hungry souls, that really really blessed our hearts.
The staff went over and above. THIS is one of the primary reasons, that we will visit again!
The fatty bao, is a great restaurant to try fusion oriental cuisine. This would include sushi, dimsums and their famous ramen. The food and decor are done similar to the Bandra branch of the restaurant. Food was tasty and very filling. Treat for non vegetarians due to the sheer number of things on offer from duck, chicken, lamb and sea food. I found the duck bao slightly chewy when compared to the ones at the Bandra outlet which was perfect, so the 4 star. Apart from that this place is a great place to have a fun lunch. Prices are not too high and ambience is cool. Another highlight was the desert which was beautiful to both eye and stomach. The fatty road, a chocolate and mint mousse with crunchy sprinkles and icecream. This along with the ramen is a must try.
Japanese cuisine has its unique taste. The Fatty Bao let's you have a chance to exprience this at an affordable price. The Japanese atmosphere adds to feel of experiencing a Japanese cuisine.
Strategically located along the JVLR, it's a part of the #FattyBao chain.
They offer some of great South Asian and Japanese cuisine. Alcohol is comparatively expensive but they accept Zomato Gold (2+2 on drinks).
This place is popular among locals, college youth and travellers
One of powai's authentic places to have the richness of Asian cooking. A lil pricey though but they have half plate and full plate optioñs for most of their dishes suçh as dimsums, closed bao and sushi. Their japanese cheesecake is a turn off real bad copy. Their staff is really courteous and attentive .
Asian Gastro Bar, great ambience, great service. I'll content on the vegetarian choices available. Starters delicious, well prepared. Main course, lotus stem curry with sticky rice and green curry both were wonderful. Good spread of desserts, Japanese cheesecake was yum.
Ambience is cosy. Loved the food. Many choices available on the menu for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. Japanese cheesecake and mango papaya salad are must try. We also ordered champagne infused tea which was very flavorful. The pot was good enough for 4 Pax. Apart from that we also tried Bao's which were good. It's not all day open restaurant. We went there around 3 and had to leave at 4:30 due to their closing time ( on Saturday). So please manage your time accordingly. Vallet is available. Will definitely visit again.
Yummy finger licking food. Helpful modest crew. Has seats in and out. Good ambience. By the highway. Lacked quantity. An expensive restaurant.
