Modern lunch home is an excellent restaurant especially for seafood lovers. This review is my dedication to my favorite restaurant since 2016 and the restaurant from where I order literally 20-25 times in a year.

So Modern lunch home specialized in Manglorean cuisine. I am writing this specific review to describe my favorite dish here. I rarely order anything else apart from this dish. Surmai Chilli refers to a preparation in Managlore called Pulimunchi which is a spicy thick curry. So the Surmai Chilli Thali contains the following: Surmai Medium Size Piece with Pulimunchi curry poured over it, extra thin gravy approx 300 ml, rice, 3 chapatis (you can replace this with roti or pay extra and upgrade to Neer Dosa), Veg. Sabzi, Papad & Solkadi. This meal is sufficient for my lunch & dinner. They give fairly big Surmai Piece; the pulimunchi curry is just out of the world and I crave for this curry very very often. The Chapatis are super soft, big in size and the combination of Chapati and Surmai Pulimunchi is a match made in heaven. Veg Sabzi changes each day and I have always loved whatever they have provided. I usually save half my Surmai Pulimunchi and eat it with rice and I also add thin gravy to the rice to make the best combination in the world. The taste of this dish stays on my mind for days and it makes me order again and again. Even their Solkadi is very flavoursome and it is a soothing digestive drink.
I have tried around 30 Seafood Thali restaurants in the entire city but this Surmai Chilli Thali to this date remains undefeated.
Please visit or order this Thali and you can order same Pulimunchi gravy in other seafood or in Chicken also. Thank you to the Chef at Modern Lunch Home for cooking such soulful food every single time. The food made here always fills my heart.

Decent place to eat with good hygiene and service. The surmai and bangda thali were really good. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars is because of the shimpli sukka aka shell fish, there was only shell but no fish whatsoever so don't buy it. The surmai was so fresh, tender and properly cooked same for the bandga as well.
Their Pulimunchi and fish Thali is awesome, get anything in seafood and it's going to be awesome, truly Mangalorean. Seafood lovers paradise
When talking about non- veg food this is one of the best places to visit.
Desi food served with proper blend of spices and masala.
The place is always crowded and you have to wait for 15-20 mins minimum but no complaints after having their food... superb.

Surmai Thali
Hands down to this restaurant cause it is one of my favourite restaurant.

Have gone with my family the sea food was really tasty and fresh.
Modern lunch home is very famous for fresh sea food so if you wanna plan with family out for sea food this restaurant is perfect option.
If you are a seafood lover..This is the place to be. i am coming here since last 15 years and i am in love with this place..A small place little cramped up for space, always crowded but no complaints after having there food.. Superb😍
This is absolute goan food as we ordered shimpli sukkha, crab tikka, prawns masala, roti, chicken masala, surmai and promfret fry which gives us good and delicious foodiee night by having such dinner at home delivery. It has no good ambience but its food says it all. Its prices is basic and not that expensive. You can enjoy proper seafood at this place.

I am a regular at this place and I always leave this place extremely satisfied. This place is hands down one of the best places to eat authentic malwani sea food in Mumbai.
The restaurant is a bit cramped but it is worth it for the quality of food they serve.
These are the dishes that I order most of the times
1. Sol Kadhi: 5/5
A prefect drink to pair up with seafood. The mix of coconut milk and Kokam refreshes the mouth with every sip taken
2. Prawns Thali: 5/5
This thali includes Sol Kadhi, Neer Dosa, Fish Curry, Rice, a dry vegetable and Prawns dish. There were three options for the prawns dish out of which I chose Prawns Chilly. Really satisfied with the contents of the thali.
3. Prawns Ghassi: 5/5
This dish is prawns cooked in a thick malwani gravy and this is the best prawns gravy dish in the restaurant.
4. Shimple Masala: 4/5
This dish included clams stuffed with red goan masala and was good.
5. Tandoor Pomfret: 5/5
The best dish I ordered. Fish was really well cooked and marinated really well.
Overall, a great restaurant to have seafood which is also extremely pocket friendly.
Modern lunch home is an absolute favorite every time you have a craving for simply delicious mangalorean food.
The must haves here are neer dosa along with surmai/pomfret pulimunchi. One should also not miss the marvayi (clams) sukka. The bombay duck fry was also delicious!
Wash it all down with a glass of solkadhi and you are a happy person! :)
