If you're a tourist in Chennai, find the nearest Ratna Cafe and have the idli sambar. I eat here every time I'm in chennai.
And so, on a clear and cool Sunday morning in the August of 2023, I found myself automatically searching for this branch of the Ratna cafe after a pleasant visit to the nearby mylapore temple.
The idli sambar here is simply the best. Their sambar has a unique flavour and texture that I have not found anywhere else. The fact that it's unlimited is a real bonus.
I also tried the poori masala, filter coffee, and the basundi. They were all also tasty but not as great as the idly sambar and I'd rather recommend the filter coffee at Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B).

The place is located next to Kapaleeshwar temple and quite famous in locality. The parking will always be a issue due to busy street of temple . The staff was quick to take order and serve the same. This place is for aunthentic south Indian tiffen items and good for snacking or breakfast. The food is good but can be much better . The place is pocket friendly and they have branches all over Chennai and if i m not wrong the Triplicane branch being their oldest and comes under legendary outlets . Over all its a good place to try some South Indian delicacies
Had our breakfast in this famous restaurant and it was very good. The restaurant is near empty when we went. The lady server attended our table was very polite and humble. The sambar Idly we ordered was served with the sambar poured over the Idli. In the middle of service, we ordered with another male staff who didn't understood the order propely brought something different. The girl apologized to us. However it wasn't a big deal as we are ok with the food and we like that too. Quality of food is good. Not much spicy. Average 200 rupees for 1 person. They don't have enough parking space and the security is very polite too. Our bikes were parked neatly by him. Thanks.
