This church contributes unbelievable magnificent expressions about Almighty God Lord Jesus from all angles after visit here. Importance of Lord, his sacrifice and preachings are highlighted with good artistic, architectural, historic background. One of the best Basilicas deserves high appreciations for this wonderful monument built by Portuguese in 15-16 th century. Britishers, King Raja of Kochi at that time who gave consent for building and renovating beautifully leave good imprints are memorable. The beauty of this church is shape of building, interior decoration with everlasting painting, fresh baby immersion bath box for good future, the story behind church on front entrance walls, surroundings and an erection pillar contributed from donors One wants to stay for longer period inside may be positive vibes are plenty.

Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, situated in the heart of Fort Kochi, is not just a church but a vivid tapestry of history and architectural splendor. Standing as a silent testament to the bygone eras, this basilica effortlessly bridges the gap between the past and the present. History: The origins of Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica trace back to 1505 when the first Portuguese settlers reached the shores of Kochi. Given permission by the Rajah of Kochi to build a place of worship, the church was originally constructed as a testament to their newfound trading relations. Over the years, the church faced the wrath of changing colonial powers, leading to its demolition by the Dutch, only to be rebuilt in the later years. In 1887, it was promoted to a cathedral by Pope Leo XIII and subsequently declared a basilica in 1984. This architectural marvel has witnessed the changing tides of history, from colonial struggles to becoming a revered place of worship in the region. The basilica's architecture is a harmonious blend of Indo-European designs. As you step inside, the ornate interiors, coupled with the beautiful stained glass windows, narrate stories from the scriptures, invoking a sense of reverence and awe. The high vaulted ceilings and the intricate detailing on the pulpit and altar showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of the bygone era. Apart from its architectural grandeur, what makes the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica special is its welcoming atmosphere. Irrespective of one's faith or belief system, the church offers a sanctuary of peace and serenity. Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Fort Kochi, is not just a place of worship but a living relic of history, art, and spirituality. Whether you're a history buff, an art enthusiast, or someone seeking spiritual solace, this basilica welcomes you with open arms. A must-visit when in Fort Kochi! Very beautiful! We visited the church on a Sunday evening, when the mass was going on so we couldn't visit the church inside, just took some photos from outside and we returned back from there. The church is one of the heritages in kerala. It has a wonderful Gothic architecture that you can experience here in kerala. If you are in kochi- kerala, then you must visit this church.

Beautiful, calm and Peaceful. One of the 5 Latin Basilicas in Kerala and among the 24 Basilicas in India. From Wikipedia "It was built originally by the Portuguese and elevated to a cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558, was spared by the Dutch conquerors who destroyed many Catholic buildings. Later the British demolished the structure and João Gomes Ferreira [pt] commissioned a new building in 1887. Consecrated in 1905, Santa Cruz was proclaimed a basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984." Interesting: You can see "Dhwaja Stambham' at the entrance of the church just like all Hindu Temples in India.
